Adventure games always existed like kings quest.
They have game play but a lot of effort put into graphics and cinematics.
Mainly because that's how they market it.

Competitive mode. Believe it or not the reason why TF2 succeeded was lighthearted gameplay.

Imitating TF2 without any of the charm and much more sterility and contained approach to the community.

Way to little skillcap to master on some heros; The mechanical skill is hardly there for half the roster.

MGS4 suffered from the same thing. So many cool weapons, and they all felt really different. But I felt so bad doing lethal runs. Thank god MGO2 was super fun, but I really wish it had -all- the guns from the campaign.
