I dunno. I thought they were alright, but I think they're a little too easy.
Better than Gunvolt 1 (never played 2) at least, but I think a big problem is that they're kinda geared for speedrunning and less for challenge. There's a few nifty gimmicks, but they're never really fleshed out much until the last few final boss stages, and then, still not as much as they could be. However, the game was also made so that you could beat it without using any extras outside of running, jumping, and shooting your base vanilla shot, so I think that's one of the reason why the design is a little on the plain side.
That being said, Ekoro definitely feels made for blazing through levels extra fast (too bad her attack power sucks until you get the elements and attack modification). Even Miracle Mode or whatever it's called doesn't boost her base attack much. If anything, it boosts it to what Beck and GV's normal attack power is.

Messing with the throw system was a mistake. Subjective opinions on whether it was a good idea to add throw breaks or not aside it introduced a bunch of new glitches. Throwing invincible moves. Throwing out of hitstun. Etc.

It outsold them because it has Blu-Ray/DVD/4k video support. While even though I don't give a shit about Nintendo, it has more games that appeal to children and man children alike, where the Xbox is kind of the casual system.
