Remind me, why do people hate this game again?
It's different in it's tone compared to the PS2 trilogy, I'll give you that, but it's by no means a bad game. Wouldn't you agree? I mean, I can understand why some people would like this game less than the previous entries, but the mount of undeserved hate Assault Horizon gets is astounding.
I'm not entirely satisfied with how helicopters were added to the game, but as far as fighter jets go, the controls are identical to the PS2 games. I'd consider that to be a mark of a faithful sequel.

I can admit that DFM is a very casualized and unwelcome addition to the game.
But can it be said that it's entirely optional? From my experience with the game so far, it's perfectly viable to shoot down planes without using it, although it makes things a lot easier. Is the game designed in such a way that using DFM is mandatory?

Sony is going to announce a lot of new games at PSX. A lot.

I have seen COUNTLESS arguments on here about how the game is a "generic survival game" like Rust ( http://store.steampowered.com/agecheck/app/252490/ ) and Ark Survival Evolved ( http://store.steampowered.com/app/346110/ARK_Survival_Evolved/ )
Please read the store pages for those games as well, and have a base understanding of what those games are before you try to make arguments about them.
Now that you have done this, you will now realize that Ark and Rust are "Survival Games" with no set goal in mind. They are a sandbox where you can do whatever you like for an unlimited amount of time as long as it serves the base goal, "Survive". There is no time limits. There is no goal. There are no "rounds" and there is no "Win" conditions.
Now that you know this, and have read the store page for PLAYERUNKNOWN'S BATTLEGROUNDS you will realize that Battlegrounds is a "Battle Royal" game, where the goal is to be the last person surviving in a game that has a 100 players in it. There is a win condition, and there is a set time limit for each "Round" of the game.
Now that you understand what each game is about, you can make logical and refined arguments about the games and not look like a complete fucking retard in an echo chamber of other complete retards.

I remember back before 2010 everyone believed that every franchise "would be great as an MMO!" People fucking loved MMORPGs and they're all they ever played.
Now these games are hyped more than any genre, but fail to deliver every time. The next "WoW killer" seems to always be in development. Forever. Every new MMO comes out promises to be different, but end up being total shite.
The best games in the genre are WoW, FFXIV, and ESO. They also happen to be the most populated. That's basically all you have to choose from. No Ultima Online. No Dark Age of Camelot. No Everquest. No Ragnarok Online. No Runescape. No variety. Just these 3 games.

The genre is flawed by design. Having enough people to readily do whatever you also want to be doing, without having some immersion shattering cross-server matchmaking mechanic, just isn't realistic enough. Waiting around to do shit because of other people is just shitty. The amount of waiting around I did in WoW was almost unbelievable at times. And a very small percentage of guilds actually even experience the end game content anyway, largely because of that reason.
Take into account the very nature of needing as many people playing as humanly possible and that's inherently going to breed design choices that pandering to casuals to ramp up that player count. It's really the kind of genre that could have only excelled at its inception before the pandering took full hold.
