What do you mean casualized? We don't really know much about the gameplay changes at this point. We do know that tutorials have been shoved aside into an optional book like in Paper Jam, and that's kind of the opposite of casual.

The animation is gorgeous and the aesthetic/HUD look is quite nice. The combat is super simple and the outdoor terrain could use some work, but this isn't supposed to showcase the combat so they just included a simple version

So, remember this ditz from Chapter 6 of Paper Mario: The Thousand Year Door? There's a point where her Shell Earrings are stolen and she wants them because they were a gift from her ex-boyfriend.
You've actually probably seen her ex-boyfriend by this point in the game without knowing. In Podley's bar in Rogueport(he and the other barkeep in Glitzville are from the bean kingdom from Superstar Saga btw. He even serves Chuckola Cola), there's a Squeek(the blindfolded purple mouse dudes) that says "..." means "SCRAM!" then talks about a different girl he's fallen for after each chapter. Goombella's tattle describes him as the "Ultimate Regular." After Chapter 6, he mentions a trip to the Excess Express and giving the earrings away to a girl. Also noteworthy is Toodles the toad's Gold Ring. After Chapter 7, he mentions a Silver Ring he gave to a woman, perhaps a translation error for a Gold Ring or something of that nature, though that last bit's just speculation.

1) Games are stored in your computer but you can't modify the files
2) The binary files in your computer are only using your CPU/GPU as a parasite to connect to steam servers otherwise they are worthless
3) Even if you modify the files offline it's still illegal
4) You agreed to purchase the license to authenticate a game online, you don't purchase the game itself
5) Valve DRM client called Steam allow third party DRM to connect o to third party servers without your consent

How's the gameplay? Every review seems to gush over the story and atmosphere, sort of glossing over the action outside of there's some combat and some puzzles

It sucks, only thing good about combat is animations. The "puzzles" are tedious and backtracking is a bitch in terms of game design for this kind of game. The voices she hears literally tell her how to win the battle sometimes its fine when you are being attacking from a blindspot but there is no reason you shouldnt lose because of combat. There are several game breaking things that may be patched (check Jim Sterling's review which he ran into a problem I also ran into but due to autosaves and respawn I somehow prevailed) and the ending of the game is unfulfilling.
