Challenge mode gives gym leaders and E4 more Pokemon, better movesets, and held items. It also makes the AI smarter and overall raises the levels of the all trainers' Pokemon.
It makes the game more challenging, sure, but as with all other Pokemon games, if you want a real challenge, you have to make some kind of limits for yourself. Whether it's going monotype, doing Nuzlocke, using only shitmons, or whatever.

Getting sonics silver medals in the mach speed sections and 1000/1000 both is probably my greatest game achievement

Don't always blow your echoes on solely leveling up, buy vials as well, otherwise you'll fall victim to the blood vial farming meme

Mind your surroundings, learn how to fight with and without lock-on, learn boss attack patterns, and dont to use that item (forgot what its called) that teleports you back to a lantern if you accidentally run into a boss, or if you're farming blood vials/bullets

it is certainly old and dated. Top-notch for it's time though, and for the following few years which is actually the best any game can hope for.

Despite knowing that deus ex probably looks worse than ocarina, I think that its graphics hold up better than ocarina today.
