They're 6-7/10 FPS' that rely on cutting edge tech at the time to be special and leave a lasting positive impression. They're not very good video games.
Valve was completely correct in waiting for the source 2/new tech to make the game happen on and it's probably for the best it just never does.

What does /v/ think of Shogun 2: Total War? Got it about a month ago and it's pretty lit. The campaign is the most sophisticated of any of the TW games I've played and all the factions are really well developed (eg, unique units and strategies). But the lack of real unit collision is a drag, and too much of the combat is made up of 'le ebin killmoves xD'

All of the TW games are good in their own rights OP, you should check them out. I recommend going back to Rome 1 and Medieval 2 before playing more of the modern ones since they have a lot of replayability with modding and what not.

I've tried posting this everywhere.
I'd like a game [graphics not important, could even be textual] that is focused on gaining levels, improvement, upgrades, unlocking things, traits, attributes, proffessions, getting more and more.
I've little luck in finding such a thing, maybe except Path of Exile, Disgaea, Mabinogi, Maple Story, Runescape, WOw/wowclones.
P.s: Shitty graphics encouraged, that means that more time was spent on creating the gameplay.

Now that Duke Nukem Forever came out, and Half-Life 3 is confirmed dead, what's the big development hell meme game?
My vote goes to Rockstar's Agent. It's made by a AAA developer, was initially supposed to come out on PS3 in 2010, and to my knowledge hasn't been cancelled yet.
