You've all seen an image like this. A guide for approximating circles in cube-based building games like Minecraft. It's alright enough once you get up to like 15... but it makes certain assumptions:
1. The only shape available are regular cubes.
2. The cubes must be placed aligned in a fixed grid pattern.
So. If you remove these two restrictions, adding sloped blocks and arbitrary block dimensions and allowing arbitrary alignment, what's the best way to approximate a circle then? What's the equivalent of this image for a game like Avorion?

Okay seriously, /v/. I'm not trying to be contrarian, I'm legitimately curious here.
Why the fuck is this game so highly praised? Please, someone explain it. I'm nearly at the end now and it has been one of the most mediocre experiences of my life. I'm playing with a friend and we're both completely baffled by this. Why is it so universally praised? Why? This game is so aggressively sub par, yet it got so many tens you'd think it was a Zelda game. Can anyone explain this at all?
