Yeah I hate the fanservice too and the show would be better if it were a little more tasteful, but it is what it is.

If it's any comfort some have mentioned that it's consistent with the 80's and 90's robo anime that this ep was paying homage to. It has also been suggested that being stuffed in to the too-small closet was symbolic of the awkwardness that adolescents go through when they experience growth spurts that leave them feeling as if their bodies are too big for the spaces they previously occupied comfortably.

You probably doesn't know how anime works, then, since script has little to influence in the big plot, that's pinned down since the beggining. Lots of time the one who writes the story concept doesnt even write any script. And in the end, the director has the last say about everything. So even is Ayana wrote until the end and wanted to make it full yuri, if the director says no, she can't do anything.

It seems like the director is pretty yuri friendly, though. Also, even if Ayana wrote the main story, the director had to collaborate with it. So if it's gay until now, there's no reason to think it won't stay that.

I agree, CocoPapi is special in comparison and it's truly shaping up to be either genuine or heartbreaking but still fully yuri. Fine/Izetta are just archetypes but I still hope for a nice ending for them. Especially now since the anime has placed them in a contrast scenario that involved actual lovers in the past.

Yes and now. True for most adaptations but original anime do tend to change during production. Of course it can be just small changes but sometimes the writer/director does change the entire direction of the anime halfway through.

That's what I find the most weird thing about it. Flip Flappers has the generic "Pure Illusionist" as series composition. That means, probably, that a lot of people in the staff are doing it (mainly the director, usually). However, it also makes a separate credit for Story Concept for Yunico alone. That isn't common for original work. So maybe her involvement in the story overall was pretty significant.

I think it would make sense if this was a story original she wrote hoping to make something with it someday and the director/studio saw and wanted to produce it. It might be just that, though, the concept. Like: "Two girls meet, slowly fall in love while traveling through worlds made of dreams."

I agree with you, and it makes Yayaka's suffering even more poignant. We learned that her relationship with Cocona was created with ulterior motives so she was never able to fully actualize her feelings when they did develop. She only realized how much she cared for Cocona when Papika entered the picture and quickly developed a level of intimacy that she had purposefully avoided because of the potential conflict with her mission.
Now that she is coming to terms with her feelings, she's realized that if she truly loves Cocona, she needs to let her go even though she wants to hold her close more than ever.

In some sense this was ep7 for Cocona - she ultimately learned to accept Papika for who she is and how she (Cocona) feels about the other girl.

Now it's Papika's turn. She needs to separate Cocona and Mimi clearly and distinctly in her mind and come to fully realize that she loves Cocona - not a girl/her mother/whatever that Cocona reminds her of (which she may have done already).

Then the hard part comes: the girls fully getting the other person to understand. Thankfully I don't think we'll go full cliche shoujo-tier drama, not with the way the writing and directing has been so far.
