We don't know if she actually got it in the White trailer.
There was an animation error since the scar appeared when she was hit, that causes several problems.
Firstly, the scar itself wasn't bleeding since it was visible next to the blood and secondly, you don't get scars in combat. You get wounds. So either Monty couldn't into biology or just forgot about it altogether.
I recall someone asking where she got the scar in a Q&A session and got no definite response, if she had gotten it from the Knight you'd think they would've said so.
Then again, maybe they didn't want to curb the speculation about the fight with the Knight being a metaphor.

Nobody here seems to realize that while this is the third volume this is only the VERY beginning of the story. I wish volumes would come out faster as much as everybody. But we all need to realize that this show is going to be running for another ten years/volumes at a minimum. That means that as the show grows it is going to change(and hopefully mature). So while the start was, to put it too nicely, very shaky, there will be plenty of time for it to grow. And I know that doesn't mean it will necessarily get better, but we all need to understand that anything they do is going to take time. That means being a little patient. We may very well see some good story someday, hopefully soon. But we have to give them time.

I'm kind of amazed that M&K have managed to write two seasons without ANY substantial storytelling at all. They've managed to only introduce a shitload of characters and done some minor world-building, but that is it. So far, we don't even know the backstories of the MAIN characters, just vague hints that Blake used to be in WF, Ruby and Yang used to live on Patch, and we know almost nothing about Weiss. The most backstory we have right now are on the villains.

I want to say that, because in the whole view of things these first few volumes are just here to introduce the characters and the world , we will see more and more world building, and hopefully some character development as well, as time goes on. We have seen a pretty big upswing in quality for this current volume and hopefully that will continue. I personally would really like to see some more backstory stuff in between the third and fourth volumes. Maybe something like the original trailers where we see our actual fucking main characters several years before they started at Beacon. It could be a good way to introduce Summer and Weiss's dad. Not that we need more characters.

Season one should have been dedicated to establishing team RWBY first and foremost. Their pasts, their motivations, their personalities.

Actually all Ruby/Cinder stuff fits the bill. Most of its supporters lack the creativity and experience to write a believable romance between the two, so they use Weiss as a crutch and just pile on the angst/cheating drama instead.

I love angst and drama, between the relevant parties. Cinder/Ruby ones are just poorly handled and constantly make use of a third wheel. The actual interactions between the supposed pair always end up being minimalistic.

When a pairing can't stand on its own legs, you can't really blame anyone but the content creators themselves.

Emotionally vulnerable, much easier to isolate from the group, SDC heiress, probably easier to manipulate into doing shady shit than Ruby, rampant gay hormones.

It's the perfect storm, really.

That is just part of the nature of shipping heroes with villains AU gets around a lot of the issues caused by motivations, it doesn't help that there are 10+ times the number of WR fics floating around. When one pairing has near 500 stories and the other has 40, it's clear which one is going to have a larger pool of non-AU, well written stories.

I think this is less the fault of the pairing or content creators and more an issue of how pervasive white rose is, it's such a universally present relationship that when you go to create something that is CinderxRubles, it feels necessary to address that presence.

At the end of the day, the ship generally falls into two believable categories when you are trying to stay canon and avoid AU, the first being corruption, where Cinder sees Ruby as a potentially useful piece in her grand scheme, and the second is essentially Cinder playing with a relatively innocent Ruby on the side as part of her laying low at Beacon, (e.g. the fic Cinder's Gift, which is a good example of short fallen petals work that has zero mention of Weiss). For the first type, the easiest way for Cinder to begin turning the quite positive and hopeful Ruby to her side is by showing her the darker side of the world, showing her that people lie, and betray, and hurt each other--Weiss is the obvious candidate for that, Ruby has known Yang to long to begin to doubt her so quickly, and Yang is too genuine and loving as a sister.

Anyway, I'm fairly certain that the great majority of people who ship Cinder/Ruby or create content for it have no particular animosity or dislike for White Rose.

No suspension of disbelief required. Jaune, who comes from a family of warriors, had no idea what Aura was, and had never seen his own until Pyrrha unlocked it. It isn't much of a stress to imagine that people who aren't aware of aura's existence could go through their entire life not witnessing it, and then treat it with fear. If a culture sees something as taboo for a long amount of time, they become resistant to anything else. Let's not forget that there are places in the world that still view evolution with distrust and anger--every living thing on the planet is made up of cells, but do you think the majority of rural villages in the world know that?

ISIS uses twitter while spouting archaic nonsense and killing anyone who won't worship a 1500 year old book based on a 2500 year old book. People are dumb, they will abuse/kill others over the most inane beliefs imaginable.

Villages exist, Qrow's story about the waitress with the short skirt takes place in a "small village in the swamps west of Mistral" that he came across. Vale and Mountain Glenn aren't really the average location, Vale has a lot of people, and that makes it a large source of negative emotion, the Grimm are likely much more concentrated around it than other locations--and remember that it isn't Vale's technology or Aura that has kept it safe--it's the natural defenses of the area. That's why even with the same technology and aura/dust use, Mountain Glenn fell. Being in a small safe valley or bounded by the sea/cliffs/rivers/lakes is probably a lot more of a defense against ongoing Grimm attacks than Aura for most people--especially since I can't imagine the average person would even be able to do much with Aura untrained, certainly not enough to hold back a really serious Grimm attack.

Coco saw barely a glimpse of Yatsu. There is a world of difference between checking over your shoulder and thinking that your teammate is there and actually being subjected to hallucinations. Like Ironwood said, adrenaline is a helluva drug.
When something goes wrong the first thing isn't to assume that random superpowers are at play and that there is an unseen evil mastermind trying to fuck with Yang.

Purely hypothetically speaking, if I had two different WR AU stories in mind that I have been mulling about for the year, but didn't get myself to start until now even though I have 3 word pages full of story fluff for each one, Which should I rather start first?

1.Werewolf Hunter Weiss gets the job to clean the forest around a castle from them and gets maid Ruby whose job is to take care of her. (Basically just Ruby and Weiss here)

2. Steampunk Detective Yang gets hired by Weiss to investigate a murder while fresh-in-town-Ruby strings along. Blake is in there too and helps Yang. Evolves into a spy hunt. (WR and BB)

Both of these purely hypothetical stories would have a shitload of world-building too, so either one would take a lot of time to finish.

Why does everyone seem to think that this fight is going to turn into Mortal Kombat? Penny is a nice person and Pyrra will pick up on that, therefore she won't let her emotions take over leading to Penny getting torn up. Yes, accidents can happen, such as Pyrra fucking up because of how much metal Penny's made of, but I highly doubt that. When Cinder uses that virus to either assume direct control or just impair her systems somehow, that will be the biggest cause for concern I think. Either way, no matter how emotionally confused and distraught she is, Pyrra would never tear an opponent apart like that, even if she had the option.

I just read 55 Minutes and it was actually good.
High school AU's aren't usually particularly interesting but that one really did conflict well. Weiss and Yang fucking hate each other and surprisingly that particular conflict wasn't solved in the span of a single chapter.

Different anon here too, but it...grates. part of it is Phyrra's description of him 'not putting her on a pedestal' (iirc, I'm not quoting, just paraphrasing) when that's entirely what he's been doing.

Another part of it is that all the characters are pretty stiff and uncharacterized, so Phyrra and Jaune just neatly slotted into the 'hero & love-interest' roles. Phyrra, especially, is about as flat as Ruby herself.

But, that's just my two cents. I'd need to actually re-watch the show to write a better opinion, I don't remember many specifics any more. Partially because I don't give a damn about RT's favorite, Jaune, so I just kinda blank out whenever he or RT's other favorite are in the picture.

I mean she's got reasons but they already basically made up. All three of them, even Yang's sister, left her to be alone. I don't think anything in that scene, of all scenes, does anything to sink the ship so to speak.

I mean I'm not dumb, I know it's unlikely unless they decide to start changing stuff to fit the popularity of the ship, but I don't think the scene after Ironwood leaves means they suddenly don't like each other.

I'm in the middle of part 2 atm, and I'm enjoying the buildup of their relationship. The thing I liked about Phyrra was that she didn't act like the typical "girl in love" nor did she act completely shy either. She treats Jaune like an actual friend, and respects him/his decisions. Jaune's character is an awful mix of comic relief / stupid but brave hero though, and it's incredibly irritating to watch for some reason.

The shoehorned love interests (neptune/sun) feel extremely boring and terribly plain though. Whilst Jaune and Phyrra seem to actually be explored, both Sun and Neptune seem to be "oh, we need love interests, let's pick one thing to have in common with their partner and just roll with it."

The fact that they made Sun a Faunus is possibly the dumbest decision in the show. Instead of having Blake fall for a human (Yang) and thus add not only a conflict for both characters (falling for the other race and thus "betraying" their own, as others would see it) but it would also allow them to add weight and significance to the human/Faunus racism, which (up to where I'm at) we've only seen pretty much once, it being Weiss acting randomly racist without any thought (shocking considering she's meant to be intelligent) other than "lolz my dad's company got fucked by some terrorists so obviously I'm gonna shit on my friend whom I JUST found out was fucking hiding her race".
