We know how it ends,
so she can't reject her. Although that doesn't outright mean that she's going to run into her arms.
I think it's gonna need more time to build, but they'll eventually get together.
The fuck is this shit.
So the person she likes is really someone else.
And she is really so dumb she never understood SJ's feelings for her.
And what was all the teasing, all the hugs until now?
I think when she told she likes SJ she really means it. She's just confused with her feelings and she's afraid to start dating SJ just to understand later that she wasn't actually in love with her.
So SJ is gonna go on a date with that one girl, and QT is gonna realize her feelings once it's too late.
Right? I'm right.
>I'm sorry, I'm unable to return your feelings.
>That's why I don't want to laugh this off and make you keep being friends with me, and then turn around when I've had my fun and tell you: I only think of you as a friend.
She is obviously very oblivious to these kind of things. She already wants the SJ, looking at her reaction when she hugged her for example. She just hasn't realized it yet herself, because she doesn't understand these kind of feelings. Either that or she is scared for some reason. Maybe both. Well we already know they'll end up together anyway.
Yes, she said both of those things. But she said the second thing in response to SJ asking whether or not QT was disgusted by her feelings, she wasn't saying that was the reason for not being able to return feelings.
I wish there was a good doujin about these two.
She could've said yes, though.
And we'd get 10 strips of them panicking before dates, starting foodfights in restaurants because QT spilled a drink on herself and SJ didn't want her to feel bad about it, SJ standing under QT's window at sunsets, QT noticing her and calling her on the phone to ask about it, SJ panicking and making a fool out of herself, followed by QT inviting her for something to drink while SJ pouts in the corner.
Fuck that, let's do it the way every story is done.
Never had the feeling she does. Of course, she will fall in love eventually but now I see it as one sided.
Up until now, QT is/was just happy that she found another friend because apparently she's a social retard.
Some moments implied that she does, but she just hasn't realized it yet. Her reaction to the confession makes it even obvious.
it's uncomfortable but I'm glad there wasn't a bait and switch when this was obviously what was being set up with the last few cliffhangers. Not sure how they'll progress from here gracefully though.
>introspection on QT's part
yeah that'd be nice.
> You don't have to return my feelings.
> You don't need to refuse.
> I only ask that you don't refuse.
That anon who wanted to translate this please do!
Eh, sorry, I didn't exactly save my efforts, but it went something like:
>You don't have to take initiative, nor take any responsibility.
>I just need you not to reject me.
So basically, SJ wanted QT not to say "no", but didn't push for "yes" either.
I don't know Chinese though, so, you know, I'm talking out of my ass.
Either way, I do get the feeling that Old Xian got friend-zoned recently judging by this chapter and the 19days most recent one.
What does Old Xian have to do with Tan Jiu's story? Also apparently you didn't see the latest chapter of 19days. I would have been really surprised if QT just accepted the confession this early without any drama. It was to be expected that QT hasn't realized her feelings yet and her dramatic reaction make it really obvious that she does feel the same way. She just needs some time to realize it too.
19days and Their Story are written by two different people, Old Xian and Tan Jiu, respectively. But they are friends and collaborate together with someone else, I believe, on another webtoon, Mosspaca Advertising Department.
>"I'm just going to misunderstand everything my love-interest says and angst about it".
Not sure what you mean, because SJ made her intentions pretty clear and I'm glad the confession happened this earily and not at the end of the manga just how it usually is.
> more so than "I'm just going to misunderstand everything my love-interest says and angst about it".
I guess technically you could argue that there are misunderstandings in Their Story but they all get resolved in basically the next panel so I don't really see much to complain about. The characters certainly don't have any time to angst about those misunderstandings since they're resolved so quickly.
Well, this is the most recent of them as a couple so pretty sure it will.
what I mean is that I want to see them get to the bar setting the one of the first pics seems to depict. Basically I'd love the story to continue past highschool because I think that's another place a lot of these stories seem to end.
> Basically I'd love the story to continue past highschool because I think that's another place a lot of these stories seem to end
This. it would be nice to see their antics as a couple in college, making mophead's life miserable.
I'm so confused right now, but this is cute as fuck, so whatever
I'm just glad it didn't go full angst like 19days did.
I wonder what will be the catalyst for QT to admit her feelings though. Will it be jealousy, or some kind of dangerous situation, or like just a realization...
I honestly hope Tan Jiu goes the jealousy route. Watching QT get all worked over SJ being with someone else would be a lot more fun than a dangerous situation or "oh hey, I guess I do like you that way."
But that's just, like, my opinion, man.
>I don't like you
>but I like you
didn't understand anything
Well, she doesn't need to actually date somebody else. We've seen how suave she is with girls. QT just might be a witness to some girl fangirling over Sun Jing or maybe some girl hitting on Sun Jing. Being an oblivious dork Sun Jing might flirt back without realizing it which might lead QT to get all jealous.
You bring up a good point, but I can also see SJ fully believing QT just wants to be friends and respecting that. I could see how it would be possible, should the other chick make a move on her, that SJ may consider at least a date or two, or at the very least hanging out. Far fetched, yes, but a possibility.
SJ is such a wonderful person, she doesn't deserve this. I hope fangirl-chan brings a smile to that face.
I kind of expected QT to act like this after we got some background info about her. It actually would have been weird if she just simply accepted it after that. Also SJ is already acting and dressing a little boyish, so it's not that much different from how Tanjiu drew her in early art.
inb4 the one Qiu Tong likes is one of those delinquent guys from a few comics back and Sun Jing needs to prove that they are pieces of shit.
Making stupid assumptions is not really helping though. Are there really people who expected that she would just say yes? That would have been really weird, especially after it was shown a few chapters ago how socially awkard and lonley she is. She is either oblivious to these kind of things or scared, probably both, but it's very clear she likes SJ deep down too. Like I already said, her reaction says a lot. If she simply liked someone else, I really doubt she would have reacted like this, with blushing, screaming and crying.
Who/what is she supposed to help though?
>Are there really people who expected that she would just say yes?
Well, I expected her to confess first, after -teasing SJ and almost forcing her to say the words first. Funny how that turned out.
What she's basically getting at is she doesn't return SJ's feelings right now but she cares about SJ and wants to take SJ's feelings seriously. So she's determined not to brush her off as a friend. SJ confessed honestly so QT replied honestly, she did so because she does like SJ as a person. But everyone knows eventually she'll realize her own love for her.
I get she seems kinda conflicted, she just really comes off as immature because of her "i like you but i don't like you" behavior.
What I wanted was, well, I don't really know what I wanted. Not this, I guess.
I expect this to happen with fangirl. SJ is a really good person, and will want to make her happy and is just so oblivious. Also, they focused way too much on her for her not to be a player in this plot at all in the future.
I think it's very likely that QT will get jealous for no reason and this will lead to her realizing she likes SJ too. She will either realize it herself or SJ will ask her about it.
What I wanted was for QT to have long since caught on to SJ's obvious crush so it eventually turned out she'd been messing with SJ quite deliberately.
I know some speculated just that a while ago.
I was one of those people. Those trolling expressions...I totally bought it. Frankly I still prefer that idea. The whole "I like you, but I'm not sure it's 'like like'" is more cliche.
Looking back, you could say QT "trolling" SJ was her strange sense of humor - QT did say she was a bit awkward and strange - instead of actual trolling like we thought. It makes me a bit sad, because I totally loved QT being a little shit.
Well she did kind of troll her by pretending she likes someone. Sadly she just did it in a different way than we expected. Now I'm at least hoping we're going to see QT getting jealous for no reason and thus leading to her realizing that she liked her the whole time too.
Not to mention she's older than SJ, the "I'm not sure I like-like" you sounds childish. You either are or aren't interested in someone romantically, leaving possibilities for the future when you graciously decide to finally reciprocate is kind of cruel.
I like the idea that she was hiding her vulnerable side by acting like she wasn't an awkward person who never loved before, not realizing that she was falling in love with that very same person.
They're in high school and emotional maturity is relative. QT is living in an empty home and doesn't know how to connect to people. Makes total sense that she wouldn't understand a feeling she wasn't familiar with experiencing before.
/u/ gave me a more positive perspective on this development. I think I get it now.
>she just really comes off as immature because of her "i like you but i don't like you" behavior.
To me, she comes off as socially awkward but honest with that line.
QT is sure in liking Sun Jing but very unsure of how committed she could be if it came down to an actual relationship.
She scores points with me for saying it as plainly as she did about the not wanting to toss SJ aside once she's had her fill.
What this comic needs now is SJ defending QT from muggers on their way home. Then QT gets weak in the knees as SJ strolls back to return her purse, gives her a kiss on the cheek, and grabs her hand to keep QT close and safe until they reach her home.
Totally invert the giving-hero-a-kiss cliche.
>toss SJ aside once she's had her fill
If she's socially awkward, then she won't know what to even do with SJ, having "her fun with her" and then tossing her really comes out of left field for me.
i tried my best
>The student council (?) just sent a notice about a meeting, so I cant walk home with you
>I can just wait for you...
>No need, you can go first.
>Will SJ be at the bus stop...
>I thought there'd be a lot of people so it wouldnt be awkward, yet it's still become the two of us, alone...
>I could just walk home.
>No, that would seemlike i;m purposely avoiding her...
>Don't panic, just naturally walk towards her smiling...
>not awkward~not awkward~
>Your face is so red...?
> My club just informed us of a meeting, so I won't be going home with you.
> I can wait for you...
> You don't have to, you can leave first.
> After school
> Will Sun Jing be at the bus stop...
> I'd thought it wouldn't be awkward if there were more people, but it's just the two of us again...
> Or I could walk home.
> No, that'd be like I'm avoiding her on purpose...
> Don't be nervous, just smile at her naturally.
> Hu... (exhaling)
> don't be awkward~ don't be awkward~
> Qiu Tong.
> Ba-dump ba-dump ba-dump
> Your face is really red...?
How can you reject that smile, QT?! What the fuck is wrong with you?!
Sun Jing is such a boss. Actively pursues girl she likes w/no gay panic. Very clearly states up front her romantic intentions early on when it seems QT is only thinking platonic friendship. Doesn't pressure QT into a decision. Doesn't instantly cold shoulder QT when she doesn't reciprocate her feelings.
Sun Jing, Prince of Princes.
yeah apologies. I was just reading the general sour mood of some of the people in the threads after the post confession sequence and took you for one of those. I quite like the story and characters thus far and found the negativity grating. I guess with your sarcasm you meant to poke fun at such doom and gloom as well, but you did too good an imitation for me.
I wouldn't say she hates her, but she probably thinks she's a weirdo. If she finds out she can do things other than losing her words and going bright red for seemingly no apparent reason, she might change her mind.
QT liking him? Nah...not possible. the way TS is developed, I don't this this author makes complicated twists like this. QT will probably keep on being awkward around SJ for a while, for not a very specific reason besides being nervous.
This chapter seems like a filler before going back at SJ and QT
just like it happened in 19 days now after the confession
I think anon was implying that Mop Head may be getting a gay romance story as well. Which doesn't seem plausible in context with him being incredibly straight.
This guy, however, totally gay in denial, right?
There are def some yaoi undertones in TS. Not sure if it would be a good idea to develop them further than just some fillers from now and then though.
Author has to aim for the yuri fans
yeah, and that storyline is fine by me, I've never been bothered by filler strips before, the scenes with SJ and the big guy were even great. It doesn't work with mophead though because it feels like it goes against his established character.
I never cared for those yaoi pages, I don't mind its inclusion but that guy seems uninterested and not in denial at all. He talks about girlfriends with SJ, freaks out dejectedly without blushing when Bara-senpai makes advances, and in general his entire existence has been played for laughs. I expect it will change to fit the tone of the main story if Tan Jiu continues to develop them but as it is now I see no value in it.
You know that authors don't write for the public, right? That people write the stories they want to write and share them with you. If you like their stories, you pay them. "Writers" that "aim" for a specific public are the shit ones, like all those LN authors.
>You know that authors don't write for the public, right?
Let's say "good writers", then. By the way, I'm not saying that this girl is a good writer (or a shit one), just that its her right to write whatever she likes.
Writing is a self-satisfaction kind of thing, like George RR Martin said: "Art is not a democracy. People don't get to vote on how it ends"
Their Story is clearly a passion project. Tan Jiu publishes it on Weibo for free and until the first book's huge success I doubt she made much money from it. She is beholden to no one. The only downside is we occasionally have to wait more than a week for a new chapter.
Writers are nerds, and they usually put all their passion on whatever they write. They write the stories they would like to read. If that resounds with the public, it makes them happy, but that doesn't mean that they start a project with that intention.
Then you have LN authors, some "romance novel" authors, and to some extend YA novels ones; who write with an specific target audience in mind and this shows clearly in the quality of the works and on how cliché ridden they are.
Of course, you can write something full of clichés if that is what you like.
That's not necessarily true. If they have a certain demographic in mind this just helps to put the focus on specific parts and leave out the rest.
Authors should be innovative and write what they like, but when they put too many ideas at once to avoid being cliche or just because they like it, the plot may get out of hand and all over the place.
I personally have no problem with the yaoi sub-parts, but I know some people who don't like m/m romance in a yuri manga. Not saying this should stop the authors, just something that happens in the fandoms.
>>Authors should be innovative and write what they like, but when they put too many ideas at once to avoid being cliche or just because they like it, the plot may get out of hand and all over the place.
That's why "editors" are thing, onee-sama. The writer goes around, the editor reigns them.
Why is everyone assuming this is the start of a new yaoi couple? It seems obvious to me that this is no different than the other chapters where SJ's class gets into trouble or does something funny.
Today I saw a girl just like SJ (even the clothes) at the mall she was with a girl and this girl kissed her hand. Then real life SJ whispered something in the other girl ear. They were holding hands all the time. I never blushed so hard in public.
Just a fun fact: the other girl looked nothing like QT.
>>Just a fun fact: the other girl looked nothing like QT
Finally, an AU where the shy girl gets the girl.
Was there ever more of this?
Translation by someone here
>1. Ahhh I'm dead tired...
>3. This is... a new user?
>4a. Eh!! ... Isn't this that popular senior from our school?
>4b. I think her name was... Fei E? I've forgotten what her major is...
>5a. She has such a great aura / she's so classy ~ But that personality of hers...
>5b. Hmm... who knows, she might ignore me...
>6a (Sound effect, literally, ding dong)
>6b. You and Fei E have liked each other.
>6c. Send message
>6d. Continue searching
>7a. Wahhhhh!!! She liked me too!!
>7b. Why am I so happy that we can chat now!?
>8a. Wait... I'm also popular in my own right~
>8b. We've chatted for so long, how can I keep letting her lead me by the nose...
>10a. Do you like to drink coffee?
>10b. It's okay I guess (t/n: literally, an ordinary amount)
>10c. Want to join me at the cafe downstairs this weekend?
>11. Wahhhh oh yes~~!!
>Done. There may be some slight inaccuracies since I haven't read this webcomic before and don't know about the two girls' interactions prior to this, but on the whole it should be fairly accurate.
>Chatting in panel 7 refers to chatting through the app, chatting in panel 8 refers to chatting in person.
Thanks for sharing! I've never noticed this strip before.
But honestly I didn't like the character designs too much. The black hair girl looked too gloomy and weird. Neither sexy or cute at all.
It's an advertisement for a chatting app so there probably isn't any interaction with the two characters beforehand.
Unless old jian or whatever his name did the same thing he did with the headphones advert which lasted like 3 strips.
The artist usually draws gay guys, I'm not surprised, but I think she's cute.
>It's an advertisement
>headphones advert which lasted like 3 strips
Links? Or was it /y/ (in which case - no thanks)?
I'm rereading Their Story and came across this page when Sunjing and Qiutong just met. Just realized that Sunjing mentioned wanting to be "friends" with Qiutong here. Doesn't that directly contradict what she says later ("I'm not here to be friends with you")?
From Qiutong's perspective, it makes sense in this context how she has trouble accepting Sunjing's romantic feelings right now.
You are reading way too much into a single word and ignoring the meaning behind it. SJ initially wanting to get to know QT doesn't remove her ability to further their relationship after it is formed. People grow and change and love happens. QT's perspective is entirely her own and we haven't seen much of it yet.
Shitty translation time.
Please coin on the bus. (Something about buying a ticket?)
You are not a recent ride it? (You haven't ridden it recently?)
>QT: …… 为什么?
I know what! (I know why)
>SJ: 啊 , 那边有 一个空位!
Ah, there there is a vacancy! (Ah, an empty seat!)
Please come sit on my lap.
>?: 我不坐, 你坐就好了…
I do not sit, you sit like a ... (?)
>SJ: 您就别客气了。/ 您就别 客气了。
You're welcome / You do not polite (?)
I am not a polite- (?)
>Some guy: 哦。
>PA: 汽车转弯, 请站稳扶好。
Cars turning, requested stand a good help. (The bus' PA system requesting you get a good grip?)
> Please pay the bus fare.
> Have you stopped riding your bike home?
> Why don't you make a guess?
> I, how would I know!
> Ah, there's an empty seat over there!
> C'mon, sit on my lap.
> No way. (t/n: literally, I don't want to.)
> I was just kidding.
> I'm not sitting, so you sit...
> Go ahead, don't worry about it. (t/n: Literally, don't be polite.)
> I'm not worried --
