I actually really like The Pacific. It's got more of a core theme, which is the breakdown of a soldiers psyche.

The time it came out it was a great achievement of television. Still is really. It's great show, especially if you just want to watch some war porn.

Of course. Also, fun fact, the Americans rejected Crocodiles for their beach invasions and they also rejected the Funnies for Omaha. This was a major reason it took so long to clear and cost so many lives. The rest of the French, Brit and Canadian beaches fell with ease because of all that shit.

Americans outright rejected lots of help because they were egotistical dicks. The entire Battle of the Bulge? That could have been avoided had the Americans listened to the Brits warning that it was going to happen. The Russians listened and they won Stalingrad because of it.

It is largely a myth. Ironically Waffen SS is far cleaner organization than popular culture, especially (((hollywood))) implies. There isn't major difference between Waffen SS and Wehrmacht when it comes to committing atrocities and war crimes, both were under same command. Both regular army and Waffen SS took part in atrocities. Still huge majority of that shit was committed by other parts of SS. Waffen SS was just nazi German equivalent of 'muhreens, guards units and airborne troop in most ways. Better trained and equipped than most infantry units.

I'm not even denying nazi war crimes, just pointing out that Waffen SS role in all that was way smaller than it is usually implied and involvement of Wehrmacht is generally downplayed a lot. Wehrmacht were far from dindu nuffins.
