The title says it all
ikr, it was my first thought, but them again GTA vice city is inspired in the 80 so tommy's suit was probably inspired by something similar.
SAdly this is the last one, it is all i have folks, have fun with it.
yeah, pretty much this
At first I had mistaken the song for one made by Mitch Murder lol, I think that speaks volumes of how good he's gotten in that style.
Is Miami Connection any good? Never watched it.
Am i the only one who thinks this is outdated pandering? The neon 80s vibe has been 'ironically' done to death in the past 5 years, and now zombie simpsons is defouling their own corpse even further
and you all seem in support of this?
>ikr, it was my first thought, but them again GTA vice city is inspired in the 80 so tommy's suit was probably inspired by something similar.
Many of the shots were straight-out-of-GTA-artwork style though. There are some GTA III artworks that have the same drawing style too (although they don't have the 80s clothing)
I like 80s stuff unironically. I enjoy synthwave a great deal, and listen to genuine 80s music too.
It was truly the last golden era of the west. Everything after the 90s was a mistake, and I was born in 92.
Where does this aesthetics come from anyway?
The movies didn't look like this back then. The only thing that looked anything like this were movie posters and pinball machines based on the movies.
I'm puzzled quite frankly by where this retro style actually comes from.
Patrick Nagle, nigger
Sill doesn't fully explains the entirety of neo-80's aesthetics
Danger 5 S2 did it perfectly, across a range of genres
It always makes me think of Cyberpunk 2020, which is the most 80s of RPGs
>I'm the nostalgiafag
>I'm the nostalgiafag. They didn't broadcast Miami Vice in my country back then.
>I'm the nostalgiafag.
this stupid foreign faggot nigger told ME to kill myself....
nigger you were born after '93 get the fuck outta here
Also found this, pretty interesting
They didn't quite nail his style though
>he doesn't do coke
still not born in the 80's so...
you actually have to experience something to be nostalgic about it... you were never in the 80's so why are you nostalgic about it?
you sound like a giant faggot
probably born in 97...
Pleb, /o/ilfags are literally better than you.
Pic related, produced from 1991 to 1995.
The early 90s were the last of the 80s. I grew up in love with the 80s, you merely adopted them. The 80s were the last free decade, after that everything started becoming more regulated and sanitized.
You probably don't even like Phil Collins.
nigger you sound like the kind of faggot that has like 1 friend and you both like the exact same thing so you never find anything new and cool
im a hipster because i know about niche things?
oh man reddit is such a huge insult by the way
Hating Reddit is one of the biggest 4chan memes of all time, this is because while every meme ever created is shared amongst the internet community, even people on Twitter and Tumblr know who Pepe the Frog is and lots of other things but hating Reddit is the only 4chan exclusive meme and fundamentally has roots in the 4chan origin being that 4chan is full of socially awkward losers and the impression that Reddit is full of charming and successful men of the world..
I found out about vaporwave after synthwave. I already listened to tons of synthpop before getting in contact with synthwave.
>not liking Wang Chung
>not liking Giorgio Moroder
>not liking Kenny Loggins
>not liking Toto
>being this butthurt
found the redditor, go suck Ellen Pao's twat, pleb
>I found out about vaporwave after synthwave. I already listened to tons of synthpop before getting in contact with synthwave.
calls me a hipster
>"i know about things before they were things"
why are you still using reddit as an insult?
dont you know that Hating Reddit is one of the biggest 4chan memes of all time, this is because while every meme ever created is shared amongst the internet community, even people on Twitter and Tumblr know who Pepe the Frog is and lots of other things but hating Reddit is the only 4chan exclusive meme and fundamentally has roots in the 4chan origin being that 4chan is full of socially awkward losers and the impression that Reddit is full of charming and successful men of the world.
Friendly reminder that Season 3 is the best Miami Vice season.
Things "newer is better" fags believe:
>80s action movies suck
>slasher movies suck
>Miami Vice sucks
>cocaine movies suck
>trucker movies suck
>cheesy sci fi movies and series like BTTF and Knight Rider suck
>Wonder Woman sucks
Enjoy your CGI I guess
>calls me a hipster
I didn't listen to that stuff because of trying to be non-mainstream. I've just liked it.
If you don't like stuff like Kim Wilde or Foreigner please refrain from ever going to /mu/
Dang, man. I'm mad jelly.
Drive was 5 years ago, and people still think this shit is cool?
>dont you know that Hating Reddit is one of the biggest 4chan memes of all time, this is because while every meme ever created is shared amongst the internet community, even people on Twitter and Tumblr know who Pepe the Frog is and lots of other things but hating Reddit is the only 4chan exclusive meme and fundamentally has roots in the 4chan origin being that 4chan is full of socially awkward losers and the impression that Reddit is full of charming and successful men of the world.
Drive isn't really neo-80s except for the Kavinsky soundtrack
That's vaporwave, which btw is shit. Vaporwave is 90s nostalgia, and 90s were shit.
Just the couch gags :^)
why do you think autism is the most use insult on this site next to being mentioned in the same post as the word reddit?
thats because most of you on this site are actually on the spectrum and being reminded that you are infuriates you, reddit does a good job of showing you that you cant ever function normally, ever have normal intellectual conversations with people holding opposing views.. at least not without you sperging out and saying something like
>YOURE WRONG NIGGER
>GO BACK TO REDDIT
some of you are truly fucked hahaha
>Wonder Woman sucks
Dude the Wonder Woman series was 70s as hell, it even finished in 1979
this thread is dildoes and you guys are fags
i wanted to fucking stab him in the neck when i read that
but its such a stupid thing to post it has to be a faggot trolling or some child born after 92 thinking that that was a good year to make it seem like less of a lie
I think the whole 80s comeback is going to evolve into something bigger, best example I can think of is Moonbeam City, which had an 80s influenced artstyle, but the whole setting and everything was really futuristic. Synthwave is pretty big too now in the musical scene and spawns a bunch of other stuff like vaporwave and future funk. I love it because we are starting to incorporate the best things of the 80s, namely artstyle and music to futuristic stuff and it's pretty
Fulci has some great stuff. A personal favorite of mine is "Murder Rock", athough it's not specially gory. It gives me the chills though. It's flashdance exploitation. Carpenter Brut used scenes for his "Le Perv" video.
Other good ones are "Don't torture a duckling" and "The Psychic". The "Don't torture a duckling" one is your typical rural Italian town movie. The intro made me hold from watching it for some days, it was too chilling.
Also, some neo-giallo, really well made to the point it actually looks from that era: "The Editor" (2014). It was crowdfunded and it's great.
Yeah but those kids hate everything post 90's it seems.
I was born in 92, I wish I was born in 1965 instead to experience the 80s life. Back when electronic music was just starting to be a thing. Back when a plane getting hijacked meant the guy would jump with some money and no one would get harmed.
This is way more 80s than drive though, the only thing 80s drive has is the palette and music.
>but the whole setting and everything was really futuristic
The 80s were futuristic mate, it just makes sense.
I hope you're right.
>The 80s were futuristic mate, it just makes sense.
Yeah I know, I was talking about something like "modern futuristic" merging with "80s futuristic"
Doesn't make any fucking sense now that I re-read it but you get the idea.
The most artistic form of autism desu
Thanks for the recommendations
Do you have anything more to recommend me? I like giallos with a strong urban setting. I loved that opening scene from that Dario Argento movie with the long title -"Bird with the cristal Plumage" maybe?- where the MC sees the killing of the girl while being trapped in a very modern-looking (for the time) door
fuck off back to reddit, tumblr or whatever shithole you came from
k, fair enough
>projecting this hard
face it, we now have a more boring life than they did in the 80s
Everything is dull and sanitized. Just look at cars and fashion. This decade has no style. Look at mainstream music. Justin fucking Bieber is one of the biggest stars of our time. Don't you see these decades are decadent on the mainstream? Maybe it's because back in the 80s the Cold War hadn't finished and people lived life to its fullest, because they didn't know if they were going to get hit by a Russian nuke the next day. Most of the cool stuff we have today is just dumbed down stuff from the 80s. Just look at modern action movies, they're a disgrace except for maybe Stallone's Expendables and Statham's stuff from the early 2000s (The Transporter and other similar films). Most modern stuff is muh effects crap, so shit movies like Avatar get praised in the giant CGI circlejerk. BIRDMAN gets an Oscar.
HNGGGG based Nagel
Oh, I'm afraid I need to venture into more giallos to properly recommend you more of them. Have you watched some films by Mario Bava? It's a director I haven't had the pleasure to watch yet.
That suit is from miami vice you plebs.
I can hardly contain my hatred for you gen z losers who think those throwback videogames you played as kids invented the 80s
But you should really go back there m8
It's just assmad kids who want to believe this time is superior because it's the one they live in. The 80s were esthetically superior in every regard, slut culture wasn't as prevalent, people were more wholesome. I wish I was there.
>Next thing will be neo-90s
It already was before neo-80s and it's disgraceful just like the 90s themselves were.
Reminder that the only good stuff made in the recent years has been throwback stuff
What do you mean "overdone"? The only modern movie I've seen with that style was Drive, and it was still not full-blown 1980s.
Vaporwave might be shallow, but it's still a cool type of shallow.
>post the last film you watched that hit you right in the feels
he means there have been a lot of retro films, games and music, but it's just not true
Nice pic, saved. My problem isn't that it's shallow, my problem is that it tends to be shitty music. Synthwave is almost always good. There's a vaporwave album I enjoy though, 2814 - 新しい日の誕生/Birth of a New Day.
No, Kung Fury was a shitty movie trying to sell itself as 80s parody movie while it was made by people, who onlx experienced the 80s through other 80s parodies.
Soundtrack is GOAT
>Soundtrack is GOAT
No shit, it has been a long time since I last watched Scarface and when I listened to "Push it to the limit" on the couch gag I thought it was by Mitch Murder, only to later find out it was another of my favorite musicians, Giorgio Moroder. I think that alone speak volumes about how good has Mitch Murder become in terms of sounding like a genuine 80s artist. Betamaxx was great too.
One of the awesome things about synthwave is that even people that aren't 80s junkies are starting to like it.
Kung fury is the most derivative piece of shit in existence
its like a teenage millenials idea of 'epic 80s stuff' and its no surprise that it has a massive following amongst reddit.
Yeah Mitch is insanely talented. Tho I prefer synthwave with that dystopian cyberpunkish vibe, like Perturbator and Carpenter Brut.
>mfw a nightclub in my country is booking all the synthwave producers out there
>mfw already was on Carpenter and Perturbator live
>mfw Com Truise is next
its derivative with nothing original to add. ironic 'look we're doing the thing that is from the past but its not the past anymore EPIC' is literally the definition of a hipster.
That hipster douche you see ironically wearing clothes from another era without any actual understanding or context beyond 'look, its old, im different'. Kung Fury is the televisual form of that guy. It is derivative in the worst possible sense, it mimics and laughs at the 80s, without any genuine appreciation or authenticity.
It is arguably the most defining film of millenial internet attitudes, which is a whirlwind of cultural and historical ignorance and cynicism about anything which purports to be genuine.
There is only room left now for 'irony', 'reference', 'fourth wall', whilst people mock the actual emotion or morals that people had in the past, for which they have no replacement but cynicism and irony.
Kung Fury is epitomic of these problems, and its unsurprising that its a swedish production, as arguably the swedes are most hating of all of genuine values, which they see as anathema to their 'everyone wins a prize' culture.
>No shit, it was exactly the point to make a shitty movie with shitty effects and a shitty story that only resembles the 80s to cool cop protagonist
You know what? If Kung Fury was a post-ironic jab at other 80s parodies to show them how shitty they are, then ok, Kung Fury was alright, but I hardly doubt that was the case.
Holy shit I'd kill to see that live. I enjoy both cyberpunk synthwave and summer sounding, upbeat synthwave like this:
BTW that one sounds pretty much like it came straight from the 80s, although not as much as "Everyone wants my name" by Lightweights or "Summer breakup" by Sunglasses Kid.
The way I see it, it doesn't make fun of the 80s in a disdainful way, but in the same way a parody picture from that era would if it had existed.
>liking the person who turned Genesis into a pleb band from a patrician one
It's literally all from Miami Vice, with some additional cues from 80s commercials, made to look like it's on a VHS tape.
It's not all from Miami Vice. The part with Flanders on the couch is GTA-esque as fuck, also the part with Flanders holding Patty at gunpoint.
The speedometer looks like KITT's dashboard
The mansion is either from Scarface or Vice City.
The grids look like they're from commercials like you said.
There are a lot of references to 80s games too.
No shit, but the one that's spot on is Vercetti's.
>It's not all from Miami Vice.
It's 98% Miami Vice
>The part with Flanders on the couch is GTA-esque as fuck
It's from Miami Vice, and GTA is literally called GTA Vice City after Miami Vice
>also the part with Flanders holding Patty at gunpoint.
>The mansion is either from Scarface or Vice City.
Scarface had an impact, and I should have mentioned that.
>The grids look like they're from commercials like you said.
>No shit, but the one that's spot on is Vercetti's.
Which is a direct copy of Tubb's suit from Mimi Voose
Serioisly, everything from GTA is from the above mentioned show with some scarface.
>It's from Miami Vice, and GTA is literally called GTA Vice City after Miami Vice
It's not, and the aesthetics shown in that shot are akin to those in GTA III which predates Vice City.
>Which is a direct copy of Tubb's suit from Mimi Voose
>Serioisly, everything from GTA is from the above mentioned show with some scarface.
Yes and no, it is Miami Vice fashion but it's exactly identical to the Vice City variant.
The club scene probably has some Carlito's Way influence too.
Same style, different clothing.
It's the drawing style I was pointing out. The way they use shadows and lines.
Nope, although he's here too. And he's actually a Brazilian living in Japan.
>he denies the 80s were superior
Spotted the 2010s ergo bike peasant
>I don't know man, the GTA3 style always had a more caricature/comic style to it, while Vice City was way more grounded in reality.
That's true, although the shading/black borders style is the same.
>tfw no colombian backstabbing qt3.14 gf
>GTA inventing anything
Please go away if you don't know what you're talking about. It's Patrick Nagel's style.
Vice City was a parodyfton 2002 that took it's cues from Miami Vice, a tv show actually made in the 80s. I feel like you're denying MV too much. Are you talking about the art style? I was born in '79 and I don't really remember that being an "80s staple" apart from a few magazine ads an movie posters. It wasn't really something attributed to the 80s until now for some reason. Were also forgetting Tron's enormous impact on certain aesthetics. Either way, the 90s sucked after 1993 and everything got bland and lame. I get the 80s ideation but the 90s were nothing special.
You're both wrong
Wow, you lack reading comprehension. I meant it's not Miami Vice aesthetic.
It looks nothing like Nagel's stuff. I see you can't into art. Nothing wrong with that though, art isn't for everyone.
Yes it takes cues from MV, but MV wasn't drawn. Scarface is the main inspiration for Vice City though.
>Are you talking about the art style?
>Were also forgetting Tron's enormous impact on certain aesthetics.
> Either way, the 90s sucked after 1993 and everything got bland and lame.
I tend to draw the line closer to 1995 but we're on the same track.
That's far off.
You are the dumbest person who ever lived.
It's miami vice drawn in Nagel and Simpson's style, with a bit of scarface and 80s commercials. Just fucking kill yourself. Your precious little video game had no impact on the art, you faggot little boy.
Also, not just the shading, but the very shapes of the faces.
Of course he's not, if it was the same guy it would look like Nagel in yellow.
I'm not, you're embarrassing yourself by associating Nagel to something that is nothing like him. There's no way you could pass that or Vice City's artwork as a Nagel. Something from Moonbeam City could pass maybe though, even if there are some glaring differences.
You obviously lack reading comprehension or are a troll. What I said in >>64994907 is that the shot with Flanders on the couch isn't from Miami Vice and that the aesthetics (drawing style) is from GTA. Learn to read.
You don't, the Simpsons don't have 80s superhero chins. The shading isn't even close to Nagel's either.
"Recently I was lucky enough to be asked to create a couch gag for The Simpsons, which I was more than happy to oblige! It’s a retro outing for The Simpsons with a nod to 80’s action shows and cartoons of the era."
How can one man be so wrong? Please die already.
How does that prove that it's styled after Nagel? Nagel's work aren't "80s cartoons", you dumb fuck. Typical millennial whose knowledge of the 80s consists of silly parodies and whose knowledge of art consists of whatever is trending right know. You probably haven't even watched Olympia.
Isn't it funny that this shit is better than all the last 10 seasons of Simpsons?
