Well, can you?
>can't quote anything
>results in fallacy
>"Star Wars is gonna beat Avatar!"
so much salt
You're not in Kansas any more you're on Pandora.
I see you.
This. This is our land.
There's Grace and Quatrich and Jake and Neytiri.
And I haven't even seen the fucking movie. Infact, I spent years criticising it and making fun of abatap and never even bothered.
IF you dont adjust for inflation.
star wars fags needs to accept their movie wont be as widely influential or popular as all the classics that made like 2 or 3 billion adjusted for inflation.
>Col. Quaritch: You are not in Kansas anymore. You are on Pandora, ladies and gentlemen. Respect that fact every second of every day. If there is a hell, you might wanna go there for some R and R after a tour on Pandora. Out there beyond that fence every living thing that crawls, flies, or squats in the mud wants to kill you and eat your eyes for jujubees. We have an indigenous population of humanoids called the Na’vi. They’re fond of arrows dipped in a neurotoxin that will stop your heart in one minute. And they have bones reinforced with naturally occurring carbon fiber. They are very hard to kill. As head of security, it is my job to keep you alive. I will not succeed. Not with all of you. If you wish to survive, you need to cultivate a strong, mental attitude. You got to obey the rules; Pandora rules. Rule number one…
>Jake Sully: [voice over] Nothing like an old-school safety brief to put your mind at ease.
population was also way way smaller at the time, its actually amazing so many people saw it.
But domestic box office is stupid anyway. Worldwide is what truly matters and force awakens isnt even close to Avatar.
I see you.
That's how you scatter the roaches.
How's it feel to betray your own race?
Some vehicles and aircraft as well?
ISV Venture Star
you do realize movies gross the most money at first right? it isnt consistent, theres a steep dropoff.
force awakens would have to make 1.2 BILLION dollars more in order to beat Avatar. There is literally zero chance of that happening, deal with it.
>Worldwide is all that matters
I wish these underage neo-hollywood faggots would stop posting on /tv/
You want to make the most money worldwide? replace all human women with cgi anime aliens, make the leads that matter white men with strong jawline. Add LOTS of CGI and very very basic plotline even a retard can understand.
China and India are garbage nations that only eat the most generic slop if it has enough shiny lights on it.
look at the international markets, star wars is mostly domestic
also avatar did well via word of mouth whereas star wars was mostly a hype thing and everyone who is gonna see it has probably already seen it.
it literally cannot beat Avatar. It might beat Titanic but thats it. You're fucking delusional.
Agreed but, it wasn't cinema as much as it was a unique sensory experience akin to a theme park ride. Nothing like it existed or exists since. Forgettable story, incredibly engaging experience.
You do realise that The Force Awakens has already earned more than 3 Billion in merchandising alone right?
Disney don't care if it doesn't beat avatar, they've already gotten their investment worth out of it
>DUDE AVATARS PLAYING BASKETBALL LMAO
Is this the wors scene in the history of cinema? God, Cameron is such a hack.
Does Reddit hate it or something?
I thought /tv/ would hate it. I mean, I actually thought it was universally thought of as just "meh" by everyone after they got over the 3d hype.
Also, Rey controversy was forged
>implying they would care for spoilers when they could make a doll just holding that fucking stick instead of the light saber, like, you know, the promo materials they released
HAVE YOU DESIGNED AND MADE YOUR OWN MOTHER FUCKING SUBMARINE AND DIVED TO THE DEEPEST POINT IN THE OCEAN IN THE MARIANAS TRENCH?
NO, WELL GET THE FUCK OUT STARSHITS! YOU LOSE.
>Yo meals on wheels!
>We are mated for life
Welp, that was easy!
I liked Finn but a black lead is box office cancer worldwide.
James Cameron would've known better, but he's a non jewish director so of course he would've known better.
that's complete bullshit, being quoteable means having good dialogue or good writing in General
it means the lines deliveres by actors are actually memorable enough that people can recall the Scene.
Sure a Movie being quoteable doesn't make it good, but a good movie should still have quoteable lines
a few Examples:
Star Wars, The Empire Strikes Back:
"I love you"
"like tears in the rain."
"Mama's not the law, I am the law."
"Never compromise. Not even in the face of Armageddon."
"give them nothing, but take from them everything."
It's a real shame that the highest grossing movie of all time has such a unimaginitive storyline, forgettable dialogue and bland, onedimensional characters, that no one can name more than one character or quote a single line of dialogue from it.
TFA actually feels and looks like a starwats movie. The pt was a three movie merch machine. So much so that you don't even get the full story or character development unless you consume all the DLC (comics, cartoons).
I'm hoping the new trilogy is as self contained as the ot, because the pt was a fractured, narrative mess (10 year fucking time gap between ep1 and 2, an ENTIRE WAR between ep2 and 3).
Avatar is such a weird anomaly. It’s the highest grossing film EVER (not adjusting for inflation) by a huge margin and yet it left virtually no footprint on popular culture. It had its 15 minutes of fame to the tune of $2.7 billion dollars worldwide, and within a few years it’s like no one remembers it even existed. You only ever really see it mentioned these days in the context of its record-breaking box office.
please nigger, the best films have much more in common with photography than story.
You can't possibly say a badly shot story is still good, but a well shot bad story can be good.
It can be good, a movie that focuses on visuals doesn't need good dialogue, but a movie with forgettable characters and dialogue is certainly not the best movie of all time.
Unless of course you use the same criteria on the prequel trilogy, if you disregard shitty characters and worthless dialogue, they have nice CGI visuals, for the time they released of course, if you watch Avatar today or even in ten years it will look like a PS1 game too
"I see you."
"Don't play with that. You'll go blind."
"Trust me now."
"One life ends. Another begins."
"THIS IS OUR LAND!"
"I'm a warrior of the Jarhead clan."
"How does it feel to betray your own race? You think you're one of them? Time to wake up!"
Avatar is full of memorable quotes.
I only saw
>So much so that you don't even get the full story or character development unless you consume all the DLC (comics, cartoons).
That's because there was no 'full story' in Lucas' head besides what went into the movies. The EU was just cleaning up the mess he made and in no way do they make up for what lucas did wrong in the films
"There tracking systems won't work out here. They'll have to fire line of sight, They bring the fight to us and we got the home field advantage."- Jake Sully talking to Norm and Trudy before the big final battle.
I'm getting so fucking tired of the edgy fools trying to sound cool cuz Avatar is somehow forgettable and The Hype Awakens is their new favorite movie of all time.
Pretentious, pretentious, pretentious, people everywhere and most of them are women who are jumping on the SW bandwagon cuz its hip now even though women historically have always hated SW. FUCK.
I just remember that one scene of the Making-ofs where he looks at that pile of artwork and talks about te set pieces being built, and suddenly he says "oh I should start writing the script"
that's fucking nightmare enducing lunacy, seeing how they came out almost halfway watchable is a testimony to the effort put into these movies by everyone involved except lucas
THEY NEVER EVER LEARN
TITANIC STAYS AT 2
AVATAR NEVER IN DOUBT
>and suddenly he says "oh I should start writing the script"
I had to fire co-writers on a project once for doing this
Whoops, got cut off.
I only saw it once in theaters. Other than that, I saw it once on a bus ride (but it was translated into another language) and I've caught it a few times on TV. Even then, it's really not hard to quote a few lines from the film. You'd have to have a really bad memory or something to not be able to quote at least a couple lines.
How about this classic scene? Entire thing is quotable.
even the dubs gods are against the starshits
>Star wars isn't supposed to be a big budget Flash Gordon. It's actually a serious character piece akin to a Bergman film.
Do you realize how fucking retarded and pretentious you sound?
This is how half the Star Wars fanboys sound. "Oh my god, Star Wars is, like, the most important piece of cinema ever put to film! It's so serious and deep, we have to take it very serious."
The other half are tolerable because they know how to lighten up about their Space Battles movies and have fun.
>mfw watching this scene high and drunk af in IMAX 3d for the first time
>Avatar is an action spectacle film, not a drama.
It's not an unfair question, action movies have memorable lines.
>I've got a machine gun, ho ho ho!
>Yippee kiy-yay, motherfucker!
>John McClane and Hans Gruber
>I know Kung Fu.
>You think you're special, you think the rules don't apply to you, but you're wrong.
>Follow the white rabbit.
>Neo, Trinity, Morpheus, Agent Smith
There, I just quoted two action movies multiple times and named at least two characters each, all from memory. Now do the same for Avatar, or can't you remember anything from it?
Starfags constantly gets btfo
I'm American and I don't agree with this at all. Go get fucked in the ass reddit. If the world wide grosses topped Avatar, you and your Star Wars butt brothers would be high fiving and chest pounding saying "see!? EVERYONE loves this movie".
Americ and the rest of the world form a symbiont circle. What happens to one of us will affect the other. You must understand this, faggot.
to think some people are cheering during that scene, on aliens killing humans, it's almost as bad as ISIS propaganda videos
not relate to this whole starwars avatar drama, I don't care about this shit
but but muh force awakens. Its a well made movie despite its flaws and its not THAT bad and its like totally hip with the national conscious cuz of memes that redditors luv like "thats not how the force works xD" Its not like i gave TFA a 9/10 and declared it to be the best movie of 2015.
Apologies, apologies everywhere.
>Steven was so memorable in the first film, we’re privileged to have him back. I’m not going to say exactly HOW we’re bringing him back, but it’s a science fiction story, after all. His character will evolve into really unexpected places across the arc of our new three-film saga. I really look forward to working with such a gifted actor, who’s also become a good friend.
This sounds like a problem you have with your defective brain and not a problem with the movie.
Personally, I saw the movie once years ago and was able to quote lines in this thread. I'd say that speaks to it having memorable lines.
But sorry you can't remember things for more than ten minutes at a time, dude. That's harsh.
Those humans were warrior's receiving a warriors death that they full on expected when singing up. Now I would feel bad if the Na'vi went and killed all the businessman, scientist, and other humans at the end. Instead they forced them to leave Pandora which is a merciful thing but they'll come back like "a rain that never stops"
honestly the science memes are the ONLY thing I hated in the martian
the rest was honestly fine but holy shit, some of the dialogue was stupid. they could have edited out just a few quips and it would have been perfect.
"You're not gonna like this"
"The way I had it figured, [pseudo-native american dinosaur monster name] is the baddest cat in the sky. So why would he ever look up?"
It's still in a typical Redditor's mindset that a movie has to be quotable (read: memeable) to be good.
>It's still in a typical Redditor's mindset that a movie has to be quotable (read: memeable) to be good.
The prequels are more quotable than the original trilogy.
>"I don't like sand. It's coarse, rough, and irritating, and it gets everywhere!"
>"Anakin, you're breaking my heart. You're going down a path that I can't follow!"
>"I wish I could just wish away my feelings!"
>"Now this is podracing."
>"I'll try spinning. That's a good trick."
>"Are you an angel?"
>"There's always a bigger fish."
>"I HAVE THE HIGH GROUND!"
>"Twice the pride, double the fall!"
>"Not from a Jedi."
>"From my point of view, the Jedi are evil."
>"Execute Order 66."
>"The oppression of the Sith will never return!"
>"Only a Sith deals in absolutes."
And there's more. I refused to touch Jar Jar quotes because it feels like cheating, pretty much everything he says is memorable.
Memorable quotes and memes don't make your movie good.
> "You cannot deny the truth that is your family."
> "You're so right."
> "You still want to kill me."
> "That happens when you're being hunted by a monster in a mask."
> "Droid, please!"
> "AN SOLO YER A DEAD MAN"
> "Stop holding my hand!"
> "Because it's the right thing to do."
> "... You need a pilot."
> "I need a pilot."
> "'14 parsecs.' Huh."
> "I know what I need to do. I don't know if I have the strength to do it. Will you help me?"
There were plenty of good lines.
>this was written by a tvtroper
my fucking sides
Cameronfags can't even find a good piece of written by the man so they have to resort to fanfiction written by a fedora tipper.
To be fair, Cameron was going for a black and white morality, a good versus bad, and that monologue, while good (certainly better than what you'd expect given the source) wouldn't work in a movie like Avatar or Star Wars.
Cameron used to write good stuff though. I think Avatars world and ecology bled so much creativity from him though.
>Lindsey Brigman: So raise your hand if you think that was a Russian water-tentacle.
"You see this here?"
>Something something grabs random floating rock
"Unobtanium. 2 million a kilo"
>Something something plays golf in a cup
"Blue bastards, take it from under their nose" or whatever.
"Remember when I was in The Illusionist and Friends? But I bet you don't remember my name."
>"Now THIS is pod-racing!"
>"Let's fuck each other with our tails."
>"Watch out for that rhino with a hammerhead shark head!"
>"Watch out for that Panther, but with 6 legs!"
"TFA feels and looks like a Star Wars movie" is opinion that you can't really back with fact. Saying "it feels and looks like a cheap ass ripoff" is also opinion, but can be backed by the fact that it copies the story of A New Hope wholesale.
>Bitches about "multiculturalism" agenda of Star Wars while defending Jim "made 2 billion foreign box office making white American stereotypes the villains" Cameron.
>dat cognitive dissonance.png
I don't give a shit if 4chan is racists. You retards need to quit fronting like Cameron isn't all about pandering to ferners and multicultural shit. The message in Avatar is considerably more anti-white, anti-American than almost any blockbuster. The fucking white protagonist is a hero for converting into a colored savage for fucks sake
Have you ever heard the wolf cry to the blue corn moon? Or asked the grinning bobcat why he grins? Can you sing with all the voices of the Mountain? Can you paint with all the colors of the wind?
Confirmed for Avatard.
>that GI Joe stereotype character that unambiguously died
>returning for all 3 sequels
Oh I don't have a problem. I'm not the one trying to defend this trash.
Quote Hitchcock's Rear Window
Plebeians don't know what cinema is about.
What do you want then, a deep and complex deconstruction of a wounded war hero like Ed Harris in The Rock?
fucking idiot, get the fuck out of this board if you don't want to discuss pop-cinema.
>responding to person complaining about multiculturalism and Jews or whatever while defending Cameron. >Point out Cameron is the worst offender.
>Retarded asshole responds to let everyone know they don't care and contribute nothing.
Not okay. Fucking reddit
You replied to me with a long-winded speech about cultural marxism or whatever, and I'm letting you know I don't really care about it, partly because I feel bad because it looked like you spent time on your reply and it was time wasted.
>get the fuck out of this board if you don't suck Avatar dick
I'm all for discussing pop-cinema. Literally what I'm doing. And I'm criticizing the cartoon character American GI joe trope villain that Cameron is using to pander to foreign markets. The fact that he's unmurdering the character for ALL 3 FUCKING SEQUELS goes to show how much of a pandering hack he's become.
It is when you're talking about cultural significance as literally the most viewed film of all time. TDK came out a yeah before avatar, and everyone can quote it. The effect it had on our culture has been undeniably more significant, because the story and the characters mattered, not the fucking gimmick. Avatar was a new technology showcase color by number story.
It isn't about "quotability", it's about the reason we remember the lines in the first place. "Mein Fuhrer I can walk" or "I coulda been somebody" or "Frankly my dear" are remembered for what they represent and the effect they had on the audience within the context of their presentation.
The only memorable quote in avatar is a reference to the memorable quote from wizard of oz. that's how bland and derivative that shit movie fucking was.
Umm.. can't think of any characters from the top of my head, but a memorable line?
Fuck I can't even remember any actual dialogue or why the main character guy was in the woods alone to begin with or what their mission even fucking was before he decided to help the aliens
