Holy fuck I'm so happy. I think that I was the only one who actually liked cloverfield and wanted more backstory from it. I'm also happy that it's not found footage shit. I'm so hyped. I hope there's a cool ARG with it like the first one
>not getting my epic Austin Powers reference
I would be content if it's just them surviving an onslaught of those "zz zz zz" things that the Cloverfield monster had crawling all over its body. Maybe we'll get the Tremors 2 we need, but not the one we deserve.
The early plot description when it was going by The Cellar/Valencia:
The story follows a young woman who wakes up in a cellar after a severe car accident and fears she has been abducted. Her captor, a doomsday prepper, tells her he saved her life and that there has been a terrible chemical attack that has left the outside uninhabitable. She does not know what to believe and as tensions rise, she decides she must escape, regardless of the terrors that await outside.”
We know that after the nuke went off the monster survived, based on the post credit audio in Cloverfield.
To me it seems like that Goodman saved the girl from her car accident prior to the monster attack. Once the attack began there was no way to get help from the outside so he took care of her.
Edit: Also, J.J. Said its a "blood relative" which I suspect could mean the monster won't be the main focus, but that the parasites will be the main focal point. Since the nuke maybe they've mutated or evolved.
>Trapped in a radiation bunker with psychotic john goodman
>be disfunctional famm
>dad is over protective
>tells them to not leave the bunker because shit is going down
>kids don't believe him
>movie is about evil alcoholic dad who had fights with mom and kids escaping bunker
>ends when girl escaping
>sprinkle some monster sounds and visages for 2deep4u ambiguity
There's your movie
>mfw fa/TV/irgins and Redditors are too retarded for a psychological thriller
I used to love trying to theorize over this stuff but sadly if Lost tought me anything is that... they won't answer where food is coming from, and there's even a high chance they'll never explain what's the danger outside
The giant monster gave birth to its little minions
Of course it isn't gonna be a proper monster movie. In this case, man is the true monster. Or Goodman, if you will.
That said, the last act will probably be the chick running around confused outside until she dies or something because of stupidity.
chill bro, they always just slap any recognizable name into a trailer if no one knows the actual director to pull in crowds
it's like the TMNT movies and everyone thought Michael Bay directed
So you're probably wondering how I got into this mess, huh? One day you're just an ordinary girl living her average life, the next, you're trapped in a bunker with a psychotic overly-protective preacher and his son. Pretty pathetic
Boy, imagine how big the mother must be if JJ considers Clover to be an infant. It's probably why this film is gonna be post-apocalyptic, since the mother probably went on a rampage after killing her baby.
Why are there so many god damn Eiffel Towers in the trailer? Is it going to be smashed like the Statue of Liberty was?
>first trailer released two months before the movie is in theaters
According to the ARG, the Seabed's nectar Clover subsisted on for all that time ran through its veins. The parasites saliva has an incredibly high concentration, which made humans have a reaction that made them pop. Kinda like how when you die, over a few days gases in your build up and you float to the surface of water, fart or look as if you're bloated. Now amp that up a hundredfold and have it happen in 1 second.
>the aliens promised to return after 3 years
>it's been 7
>cut to the cloverfield monster's face with the nuke about to drop
>"hey, you must be wondering how I got here, well lets go back about five hours"
>sped up helicopter shot of manhattan zooming in on the destruction
Just watched the trailer again, and did anyone else notice the really subtle monster growls at the very end?
At first I thought it was just ambient noise, but no there's definitely growls in there.
>yfw he pulls a Clover's louse out of the liquid nitrogen
2+ plus hours of john goodman abusing his family.
Its like i am watching the 2nd season of Rosanna
Anyone else notice they show a monster in the window of the door? They even zoom in on the tiny slit you can see behind Mew's head
>feel like rewatching Cloverfield again
>remember it's all shaky cam
>go to rewatch Blair Witch, the film that started off that whole genre
>it's really not that good
I don't know about you guys, but it looks pretty good to me.
That was just the start of the problems. The whole rest of the movie is just heavy breathing and "OMG WHAT WAS THAT" along with screaming cunt girlfriend's name. Waste hours looking for some girl who just gets impaled anyway.
>GOAT effects that made people think it actually happened
>includes actual real violence
>director had to prove he did't kill a girl in the jungle
>kickstars a genre
>b-but it's like old and stuff :/
The world revolves around you anon. Only you!
This trailer was actually great in that it didn't really reveal anything. If they were smart this should be the only trailer they release.
This movie looks like it's just going to be a tease all the way through, then at the end we'll finally see the bugs from the Cloverfield monster. Then someone will live, someone will die, but all it will do is make us crave a REAL cloverfield sequel because the story will be too small-scale to have any plot development for the series as a whole.
This is such a stupid move. By attaching the project to Cloverfield you already know since the start that Goodman is telling the truth. It spoils the best aspect of the old premise. There's no uncertainty.
No, there was only one. The Blu Ray had a special feature where you could have a small GPS tracker on the screen that showed where the monster was in relation to the characters in the city at any point in the movie.
>movie takes place in bombed out new York
>cloverfield monster survives bombing and begins terraforming earth to better sustain it and its babies
>earth is a hellhole
>Goodman is a survivor of the first film and knows of the danger
Maybe it would turn out like Human Centipede 2, where real world is mixed with movies.
Guy watched Cloverfield but lives at address with Cloverfield in the name, goes crazy thinking world is under attack by monsters, 'rescue's some girl and tries to keep her 'safe' from 'monsters' outside.
>family hides in bunker during cloverfield attack
>John goodman on defense
>mom dies at some point and is stuck in a Barrel
>time goes by
>John Goodman gets abusive
>daughter starts getting signal on phone that people are out there
>makes plan to get out
>John Goodman on defense
>check out moms body
>shit its cloverfielding bad!
>decide to leave
>John Goodman on Defense
>Pan out of 10 Cloverfield
>either everything has gone to shit or
>everything is fine
>but John Goodman on defense of cloverfielding mom Body.
>a REAL cloverfield sequel
We already had one
>mom dies at some point and is stuck in a Barrel
>check out moms body
>shit its cloverfielding bad!
8 YEARS IVE BEEN WAITING
YEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEES ONE OF MY FAVORITE MOVIES OF ALL TIME GETTING SOMETHING NEW
That's what I'm thinking.
>Chick is about to escape.
>Sees what's going on outside.
>Turns back out of fear, and goes back into the bunker.
>Goodman, who has been trying to keep them in the dark up to this point, decides to come clean, and shows them a parasite that he's been keeping in liquid nitrogen.
>Sacred angel number
>combines vibrations and attribute of 5 and 0
> Number 5 relates to personal freedom and individuality, major life changes, making important choices and decisions
> Number 0 resonates with potential and/or choice and encourages developing one’s spiritual aspects as it is considered to represent the beginning of a spiritual journey and highlights the uncertainties that may entail
MEW confirmed for not knowing a world before the apocalypse, running away and starting a new life on her own
they look at him like he just fisted himself in those gloves
>hey anon can you help me paint my nails?
This. We've prolly just seen the first act.
But it's pretty obvious, right?
>Monster still not dead
>Society falls back on underground bunkers as it rampages and releases monster on the surface
>we'll see how the world outside is now
Hype as shit m8
Watched the trailer again.
MEW and Brian Wilson seem to be much more stable than Goodman, so he's probably insane and this will be a big part of the story.
Don't think it's going to be just parasites/leftovers from the original monster, that wouldn't explain the house shaking. I think it's going to be bigger than the original monster but they won't show much of it
>yfw its a loose prequel and baby cloverfield is in the drum
>yfw the address is where the military got the name for its origin
>yfw goodman is a nutjob and while excavating his bunker he found a weird egg in the wall
when the whole bunker starts shaking... One would assume that it is cloverfield stomping around, right?
but those assumptions could be used against you if JJ knew that people who saw cloverfield would think this.
What if the nuke/MOAB that they dropped on cloverfield at the end of the first movie was what caused this earthquake-like event?
holy fuck that would mean this movie takes place during the first movie and keeps going... this would be absolutely amazing.
why are people suddenly retroactively changing their opinion on this movie? acting like it's good now that its almost a decade since it came out
remember when everyone called the original fucking flop failure shitty monster movie? i do too. remember when everyone said jj abrams couldn't produce shit? i do.
what the fuck man...
>that would mean this movie takes place during the first movie and keeps going
Also not bad.
I haven't watched Cloverfield in probably 5 years, but I don't recall a nuke aside from the very end of the movie and even then I thought it was ambiguous about what happened afterwards.
Guys. The Seabeds Nectar is the substance in Slusho that is also Clover's foodsource/drug. It is has to be kept at a frozen or near-frozen state and it's important enough that special machines are made for it. It's also a highly addictive substance that gives you a feeling like a wave of pure happiness.
I'm willing to bet Goodman acts very bipolar, busting out moves to the jukebox and next moment he's twitching at the dinner table and acting violent and irrational. MEW attempts to leave, stops when she sees what's outside, maybe the parasites or something else wants more nectar (Clover rampaged because he followed the trail and didn't find any at his feeding grounds).
Godzilla is huge now! They're bringing King Kong back, and then crossing him over with Godzilla! What if this movie is one big set up to bring Cloverfield into the Godzilla kaiju universe?
I thought about that, but it wouldn't really make sense unless the Cloverfield monster fell through a portal to an alternate dimension, or any crossover film would be non-canon fanwank.
Not him but the manga tie-in heavily implied there's more than one.
Clover is just some prehistoric creature that's been feeding off Seabeds Nectar for anywhere from thousands of years to hundreds of thousands of years and it's been mutated to hell and beyond. No reason why there weren't more.
It was a theory when the first film came out based on assuming that the one that killed Hud was a different monster down to the perspective change leading people to think it was a completely different size.
>heavily implied there's more than one
That's pretty obvious, but JJ or someone high up in the production of the original has said that the monster we see in the movie is just a baby that got lost from it's mother, there's more, yes, but we don't see them in the movie.
I thought the Skull Island film had absolutely nothing to do with Peter Jackson's film or the existing King Kong story we all know.
I knew about King Kong being in the same universe as the new American Godzilla films, but now all of this is making my head hurt.
>the manga tie-in
Yes but that also said that humans have psychic connections with the monster when sharing DNA that mean they can control them as well as a Japanese city being destroyed some time before the oil rig was meaning the whole world would know about the monster before it reached New York.
I just thought of something, hear me out:
In Pacific Rim Hellboy tells that kaijuboo that the kaiju parasites need to be kept in amonia or they'll rot supper quickly, so WHAT IF IT'S NOT LN but amonia in the barrel? Pacific Rim x Cloverfiel confirmed.
MAKE IT HAPPEN YOU FAGGOTS
You might be right, I could have be misinformed. The way they originally announced it though, I could have sworn they billed it as a prequel. Regardless though, I guess that's changed.
However, I find this little blurb hilarious.
>The film is a reboot of the King Kong franchise and will serve as the second installment in Legendary's Godzilla-Kong cinematic universe.
>Godzilla-Kong cinematic universe.
Hey man I never said it was good but I'm pretty sure there's some other manga tie-in that explains the origins of Seabeds Nectar. But as far as I know Kishin was part of the ARG, so its as canon as everything else.
>no Matt Reeves
>no Drew Goddard
It's gonna be great
>It's gonna be great
It's gonna be great
>It's gonna be great
>capeshit cinematic universes are on their way out
>now is the time for kaiju cinematic universes
>we get a scene where Goodman hobbles the monster's feet with a sledgehammer
>Look at the cast list of Skull Island
>All the way down near the bottom
Coincidence? I think fucking not. Cloverfield/Kong Crossover CONFIRMED.
>a similar kind of fuckery.
Literally nothing similar. Legendary and Universal have a five year partnership plan, that's how they got Kong. The movie will have nothing to do with PJ's movie either.
that bunker looks pretty comfy tbqh
10/10 would live in with MEW
my birthday is jan 18th.
I saw this shit when I turned 15. Needless to say, it spooked me and I'll never forget the movie.
super hyped for this new movie.
Dan Motherfucking Trachtenberg, what you never hurd of him??
>has quicksilver and scarlet witch
>has Nick Fury and Loki
GUYS GODZILLA X KONG X CLOVERFIELD X PACIFIC RIM X HELLBOY X MARVEL CINEMATIC UNIVERSE X BIG LEBOWSKI CONFIRMED
thecellarmovie.com just contains a trailer for The Cellar movie which has a similar plot to this, that's the only connection, not sure who brought up that website in these threads but I think it was just an idiot trying to fool people into thinking that those two are connected.
I know all about that... I'm just trying to figure out how King Kong and Godzilla would work in this current canon. Plus he's gotta be one big-ass ape if he's gonna fight the Big G this time around.
But that's deviating from this thread.
What i'd like to happen
>trailer is just the first act, the whole bunker stuff just sets up and then MEW escapes at about halfway through and we get to see what the world is like post monster and she has to go and find the people she got contact with on her phone or some shit, lots of shots of monster, destruction etc
What will actually happen
>The entire film takes place in the bunker apart from the last 5 minutes to be a tension focused movie, you only ever get indications of possible monsters like the shaking ceiling
>it turns out that goodman is really just a crackpot and mew escapes and has a dramatic showdown with him before escaping and the movie ends there
im expecting massive , massive dissapointment
GUYS NEW TRAILER
When /tv/ first founf out about the film about 6 hours ago we found that website due to the fact
that it was called the Cellar back before it was called Valentia back before it was called Cloverfield lane.
That was it's name before it was reworked into a Cloverfield prequel. There was an ARG website for that film that we thought was for this and we were trying to solve it but then due to looking at the background of the site itself we found out that it was for a different film going by the cellar name and just a coincidence. This was around the second thread on the film.
I left /tv/ about an hour after we discovered it was unrelated so am asking if we found any other sites in the meantime.
I dont know but theres going to be some new movies coming out over the next 4 years and theres supposed to be a Godzilla vs King Kong in 2020
Some Jap company starts drilling the seafloor, and they discover a substance called "Seabed nectar". The Japs start collecting it and make a highly addictive and highly popular drink called "Slusho". Well, it turns out that whatever the source of the nectar was, was also where a juvenile sea monster is sleeping, feeding off of the nectar. The satellite that the Japs used to map their mining/drilling over the ocean drops out of the sky and triggers the wake up of the creature, which reks an oil rig and makes it's way to NYC.
THEN WE BETTER BE FUCKING READY
watched cloverfield again last night
>tfw the best qt3.14 brown girl survived
i dont really get what an ARG is, is that like when people do real world things to hype up a piece of fiction? the only one of those i'm familiar with is the binding of isaacs one and that was fucking gay.
i cant the summary of it either because >file to large
>Watching CinemaSins, aka repetitive non-criticism and unfunny joke videos made on an assembly line for consumption by normies
Next you'll link to Kids React or something like that thinking that they're legitimately funny or insightful about how children actually think/act.
Creepy considering I remember this being speculated as a Cloverfield sequel years ago
Engineering, alter the environment to it's preffered state. Calling it terraforming is pretty stupid since it literally means "earth shaping". Hard to make earth more earth-like.
It would've been cool if the new trailer had released on the 18th instead of today. But Friday
With the advent of camera phones and tons of memory on them, this would be a lot more common than the guy just video taping everything the entire time. Though it'd probably be all short clips in vine and whatnot
