>Reports said that Marvel is trying to negotiate with Downey Jr. for playing Iron Man in "Iron Man 4" and is even willing to pay the actor $100 million to reprise his role. However, Downey Jr. is said to have grown weary and tired of the franchise already and thinks that he will be too old for the Iron Man role.
They think they can throw money at him to keep him going as Iron Man, but they don't understand is that they've already given him infinite money to play Iron Man already. What's the difference between 20 million and 100 million when you already have half a billion dollars in the bank?
If they wanted him to keep playing the roll, they shouldn't have dropped Tony's alcoholism.
>mfw he cucked marvel with DC
he does projects with WB when he's not shooting for Iron Man
They gave him too much too quickly.
At some point, all the numbers just kind of blend together.
I only have like 50k in the bank and I already don't know what else to buy that I really really want.
Imagine being RDJ with all his millions and having already bought all the Ashton Martins and coke party whores he could ever want.
At that point, you just want to be challenged again.
As an actor who wants to leave behind a legacy I seriously doubt he wants to be remembered as a fucking comic book character.
Sorry, but no. He defined that character for a generation. Before this, noone knew who the fuck Iron Man was without the armor. Now they immediately think of charismatic Downey Jr.
he's probably sick of doing promotional shit for capeshit and the money is just not worth it anymore
i bet he'll go back to smaller scale movies after this, he can pretty much do whatever he wants now
>So if Robert were to undertake another solo “Iron Man” movie, it would only be in 2020, putting “Iron Man 4” against its rival studio DC’s “The Batman,” which is also slated for a 2020 release.
Just hire a new actor to play Arno Stark, the Iron Man of 2020
Pretty much this.
You see this happen pretty consistently with actors once they reach a certain age.
They simply realize that they are running out of time to use their talent to make something worthwhile. Something they can be proud of.
Even though they are rich they are still people who want for meaning and validation.
Look at Matt Mcanaughey, went from date night movie pretty boy to a freaking icon.
RDJ had to fight back into the light and used Iron man as his rebound chick to remind he can still fuck.
Now that he is settled and stupid rich he is starting to want something with more substance
So with Downey leaving and Evans leaving after Infinity war I wonder who will become the face of Marvel? Also bet this will be Cap'a death at the end of the Infinity war part 1.
how fucking important is it to do 2000 interviews that are exactly the same anyways
just replay the ones he did for iron man 3 and shoop in a 4 behind him .. nobody would even notice
He's 100% gonna die or retire in Infinity War anyways. They all will.
>Falcon Cap as the leader
>Black Panther as the money man
>Dr. Strange as the weird guy
>Spider-Man as the youngun
>Ant-Man as the comedian
>Wasp as the girl
The only one I can see sticking around is Hawkeye. Everyone else will just fuck off
it doesn't matter what he wants to do. He hasn't proved himself capable of playing anything with substance. His entire career is being a guy who spouts witty one liners. He'll probably be shitty in whatever else he does but it doesn't matter because he could live luxuriously for a a hundred lifetimes with all the money he has.
Matthew hadn't proved himself before he put out amazing performances either.
The point is that if RDJ has some amazing piece of work somewhere deep inside him then losing out on him as Iron man is a extremely small price to pay for him to explore that possibility.
>Iron man 4
>Tony Stark is in the suit the entire time
>Doesn't say a word during the entire film
>Plot revolves around his friends
>after credits scene
>RDJ walk in with a tan, Hawaiian shirt and sunglasses
>"did you guys miss me?"
>ywn get a big guy transplant, and become the titan
>women will never respect you
>Always passed over for promotion
>Genuine social inequality
>It will never be addressed, beyond ' when will they learn'
>Forever mad about it, but will always get 'lol Napoleon/ Joe Pesci'
>Even Wolverine has been taken by the tall. Normies don't even realise he's meant to be short, hence the name
Manlets had a hard life
He doesn't want to be challenged. He's openly spoken about how much he fucking hates being in indie movies and smaller productions (which is where all the challenge is since AAA hollywood doesn't do anything challenging for actors)
Spider-Man will probably be the flagship. Also, I'm 99% sure that it's going to be:
>Cap dies in Civil War >Tony hangs up the suit, becomes director of SHIELD >Infinity War Pt. 1 happens, Tony returns as Iron Man at the climax >Infinity War Pt. 2, Tony gets the gauntlet and revives Steve for the final charge
$1 0 0 M I L l I O N
I'm fucking breaking my back for $100 a day selling computers
Holy fuck. He's not even Iron Man from the comics, who was a suave industrial James Bond. He's le epic quirky Robert Downey Man
Duh, it's a trick.
Claim how much he hates it and won't come back, tease the fans so Hollywood has even more pressure to ante up, appease him, be "creative" so when Downey accepts he'll say it's cause of this wonderful vision someone had for the movie, suddenly he's getting paid 120 million plus a nice percentage of the revenue
i could spend 100 million just buying cars, from different years, companies, models, versions.
then another 100 million making an A-Grade FIA track to race them.
Then another 100 million making Formula 1 come to my track to race.
i don't understand when people say this
>hurr durr you have so much money you don't know what to do with it
you just need to have a plan and the money.
If Downey walks, Marvel won't recast Iron Man. They saw what happened with Spiderman, and don't want to repeat that shitshow
I honestly wouldn't be shocked if they did full CGI Iron Man cameos in various other films. They sure don't need Downey for that
fuck thats another 100.
we got like 400 million now, now imagine if you want to own a Formula 1 team.
Manor spends like 50 million quid, if you want something competitive 100 plus a year, lets say sponsors pay 50%.
thats still a lot of money.
Running an F1 team is money down the drain really, Mallya wants out of Force India afaik
It's incredible that Red Bull have been as successful as they are, F1 is financial suicide unless you're a literal billionaire with 500mil a year to waste for R&D
He doesn't want his legacy to be destroying what ever the film medium could have been without capeshit saturation. I don't know why he doesn't take the money and run with it because it's too late, he elevated capeshit so high that no normie will ever watch something before the year 2005 ever again.
The problem is the Marvel cinematic universe has had over 10 movies now and all of them have the same ending. They need to take risks. Star Wars The Empire Strikes Back has a very dark ending with the bad guys winning but that didn't stop it from making a shitload of money and it's now widely considered to be the best Star Wars movie.
>breaking my back
Have you not paid attention to society over the last three years? Political correctness is worse than ever. If Tropic Thunder came out #blacklivesmatter and other idiots would scream racism.
He's Ghost Rider. I'd love to see him in a small role where all the Avengers etc try to avoid him but he has to be there for the final charge so they have to suck it up.
This. He has all the money in the world. The only thing he doesnt have anymore, the only limitation he shares with even poor people is time.
Doesnt matter how rich he is, his time on Earth is as limited as the poorest 50 years old.
He probably wants to use his money and time left.
> big fight going on
> huge action
> cut to inside the Iron Man helmet
> screen filled with RDJ
EVERY. SINGLE. TIME.
It's not even Iron Man. It's the cooky adventures of Robert Downey Jr. at this point. I find it hilarious that his ego is so massive that he has to have his face shown without the helmet on the dvd covers.
I saw it and it's almost as bad, don't try to trick me anon!
What's your point? It's okay for the MCU to do the same shit again and again forever because other movies do it? Fuck that. These movies make hundreds of millions of dollars no matter what. The studio could make one that has a dark ending and it would still make insane amounts of money.
Wow, an actual discussion is taking place in this thread. I mean, there's a little bit of shitposting...
But all in all, it's a quality thread. Nice job, anons! My standards are low, but I'm proud of you. Here's a cute picture of a mouse.
bullshit he's holding out for more money
look at all you gullible faggots thinking its actually "hard to keep doing this"
what a bunch of morons you all are.
It looks like he has infinite money, to you, but youre all low class peons with no aspiration.
They aren't gonna reboot or recast, they'll just continue the MCU with all the B tier characters they have and maybe have some of them take the roles of the A tier characters just like in the comics.
MCU makes way too much money for them to throw it all away on a reboot just cause an actor or two have to be killed off.
Kind of bothers me if they set up the entire extremis arc, only for them to not give Tony the extremis suit.
Such wasted potential. I guess there is a chance of him wearing it Civil War for a bit but it would still be a waste if that's all. And that's if we even get that.
Do kids still even watch Iron Man and Marvelshit?
Lots of people my generation didn't even watch the Star Wars prequels because they were born too early to see the first one. That's missing one fucking movie. This is a series of 15 or so to catch up with when they'd much rather marathon cartoons or anime.
I can't imagine my 5 year old nephew having much interest in bucky and cap resolving emotional problems he wasn't aware of.
>In the comics, bullshit happens and the original Iron Man is replaced with a younger version of himself
>MFW this actually happens in the the MCU
They aren't designed to be viewed in any kind of continuity despite the serial format
they're just one off action movies with a loose overarching plot for those deluded enough to buy into it and keep track
I don't see the problem, familia
>However, Downey Jr. is said to have grown weary and tired of the franchise already and thinks that he will be too old for the Iron Man role.
the man being paid hundreds of millions got marvel fatigue before audiences did.....
how in the fuck....
WOuld disney even allow Mel's flare?
Maby if the MCU did what DC is doing and making cape film that are cape films SECOND but other types of films first.
DC loves those neo noire crime thrillers, and i think thats whats gonna have them be king of the hill sooner or later.
Tone variation, art style variation, each movie isnt the same as the last, ect.
Hell its gonna happen to star wars as well.
Really if there is anythign to replace cape, its going to be giant monsters.
coverfield 2, godzilla (japan reboot) , Godzilla vs king kong, pacific rim 2, the possible pacific rim/godzilla cross over. Gamera, maby.
Disney rep here. Off the record, RDJ says he's willing to IM4, but only if we can guarantee that none of the cast and crew make fun of his height, like has happened in prior movies. We can't really control that and so it can't be a contractual obligation on Disney's part. That's all I can say for now.
They should let Stark retire as Iron Man and have him stay on the sidelines as the new commander or something. Then it would actually be a good thing he's beginning to look a bit too old for the role.
it think its not capeshit itself....but marvels brand fo cape shit.
RDJ is sick of Iron man because he's played him for 6 fucking movies and then some.
However Bale and Hardy, despite being fucking HUGE names in stuff other than cape still wanted to be in the new DCEU to a degree.
And i think its because the MCU.....is assembly line bullshit.
its shallow soulless marketing.
sure all films are for moeny to a degree, but lets look at another superhero movie coming out soon.
Deadpool, despite all of /tv/s faggotry and memeing, is a project that the director, actors, ect had to BEG fox for, got shelved, and only got their measly 20 million after they leaked test footage which everyone liked.
Deadpool, whether or not its stupid, is breaking the MCU estblished mold by going ultra violent, having new gimmicks, not having the standard MCU storyline, being meta, along other things including fan involvment and having fun.
Hell Karl urban is STILL working to get Dredd 2 or a netflix sequel lifted off.
And suicide squad is doing what Nolan did and letting its director be the artist and making a crime thriller with bits of psycological horror thrown in directed by david ayer and professional highly prased editors and cinematographers.
Its less everyone is tired fo capeshit, and more people are tired of SAFE and forgettable capeshit.
quads demand it....no black iron man.
>directed by david ayer and professional highly prased editors and cinematographers.
i hear Suicide Squad also hired professional lightning and special effects people too, they must be serious about making a big budget movie.
>i hear Suicide Squad also hired professional lightning and special effects people too,
Dont be a smart ass.
i mean a cinematographer and editor that are well recognized in the industry as being above average.
Go to wikipedia or IMDB and look them up.
ooohh two people with above average skills, always translates into a great all time classic movie.
who cares what their rep is? just judge the movie by the movie itself, not how auteur the director is supposed to be, or how professional the editor is supposed to be. good talented people have made shitty movies many, many times before.
>ooohh two people with above average skills, always translates into a great all time classic movie.
It sure as fuck doesnt hurt. its usually a good fucking sign. At the very least the film wont look or be paced like shit.
>who cares what their rep is? just judge the movie by the movie itself,
are you aware of what the director and his crew do to a movie?
Is it not a better to bet on people with acclaim, experience, and talent for their job as opposed to no named yes men?
>good talented people have made shitty movies many, many times before.
Well if it isnt out yet, then shouldnt i do some research into the production to see my CHANCES of liking it?
I could go in blind, or i could consider saving my 10 bucks and watching it when its on rental.
or if i like the cast and crew and they have a history of doing films similar to these well i could go see it in theaters knowing my chances of being satisfied are high.
its like betting on two roulette tables.
one table is perfectly even and has no bias.
one tends to have the ball land on or within 10 spaces of the number 15.
which one is more likely to get you money knowing that information?
Since he is not going to be batman anytime soo do you think hammer can pull of a tony.
Budget wise taller actors are more expensive to accomdate
You are literally slobbering all over a movie that isn't out for a year.
>Hmmm should I see Suicide Squad? I wonder if the cinematographer and editor are well respected professionals. Oh they are! Now I can safely make an informed decision and invest my time and money into seeing this motion picture.
>that isn't out for a year.
it comes out in like 6 months.
Also why are you so butthurt?
Looking up the production crews pretty much told me star wars 7 was guaranteed shit.
maby if you tried to recognize patterns you would see more movie you liked as opposed to walking out of a theater bored and pissed you wasted 2 hours and 10 bucks.
And why cant we appreciate the editors and cinematographers? Or the gaphers, lighting crews, ect?
they're the ones who make or break a film.
i saw it because it was star wars and i had to know HOW BAD it was gonna be.
and as i predicted, editing, pacing and cinematography was fucking awful as well as the rest of the film.
same thing happened during jurassic world, but i went because i just fucking had to know how bad.
On the flip side i went to see into the heart of the sea for its director, crew and source material/historical basis, and while it wasnt a master piece it was a very enjoyable sit.
and i just recently saw Revenant and it was awesome.
And its why i think BVS will be decent at least, and suicide squad is likely to be very enjoyable or at least look and be made very well.
I actually kind of like this idea. He can then mentor a new guy to play iron man. A young black kid from the bronx who is studying to become an engineer. Also he has a white girlfriend.
>Earlier reports too stated that there was some sort of negotiations going on between Marvel and Robert Downey Jr. and the latter was asking for a hefty sum to reprise his role again. Rumored to be demanding $100 million to reprise the role in “Iron Man 4,” Marvel wanted to give a thought about paying Robert the said amount.
RDJ was demanding $100million
Not that guy but come on, not everyone wants to make millions on top of even bigger millions already owned. I made less than 20k last year and I love my free time. What kind of faggot would trade their life for some money? I'd rather trade money for more life, but that isn't possible yet. Working too much just makes my life feel like it's slipping away and I can't get it back.
>DEADLINE: True, but the year he made Apocalypto, I didn’t see a better movie and he was ignored and hasn’t directed since. Marvel badly wants Iron Man 4 and you’ve said you aren’t doing it. How about the idea you’ll do that movie if Mel directs it?
>DEADLINE: Is that our headline?
DOWNEY: Why not? That movie would be bananas.
>Robert Downey Jr Q&A: On ‘The Judge’, Turning 50 With A New Baby, And Yes To ‘Iron Man 4’ – If Mel Gibson Directs It
FIN FANG FOOM RADIOACTIVE MAN GHOST WHEN
Marvel wouldn't trust a director with his own vision, they want these movies to fit into their template. If Mel has to make Iron Man 4 like thier cookie cutter capeshit movies, theres no point.
Even Daniel Radcliffe stuck with his franchise longer. Robert is a pussy.
>we really need is a ScarJo capeshit film
Black Widow was never suitable for carrying a film on her own. Wasp would have been one thing, but Black Widow in the MCU is literally just Wasp's replacement.
Sooooo. Why are there so many posts in this thread? Granted it's a lot of same fagging but it's almost at 300 for a damn near 2 day old non story.
The fact that it's about Iron Man 4 you would think would be a big enough clue (there is no IM4). The fact that no other trades ran with it, another.
Is this just normal /tv/ autism on a slow news day?
>inb4 da jude finds out some dirt on Downey jr. like fucking little boys and blackmails him into returning
sorry bro there is WAAY to many shekels to be earned, we can't have you being lazy my boys bat mitzvah is coming up
Here's what's gonna happen guys, I'm gonna guess:
Infinity War part 2 ends with some of the A-lister heroes sacrificing themselves to beat Thanos. This being Marvel, they obviously don't want to kill their heroes for good. So at least Iron Man, maybe someone else as well (possibly Cap, Evans says he likes doing the movies but wants to direct more, he might want to do that) do the ultimate sacrifice. It'll be something like them taking Thanos down with them, dragging him with the Infinity Gauntlet into some Space Dimension XYEYA like in comic books. With Cap you don't need to recast, they can use Bucky or even the black dude like in the comics to take his place as the new Cap. With Iron Man, they can essentially soft reboot. He "dies" in this alternative dimension but somehow miraculously survives and like Dr Strange or some cosmic hero manages to find Iron Man. They drag him out. But because it's cosmic space dimension and shit, his face, height, voice, age, everything has changed. This is how they can keep the old continuity and essentially soft reboot the character with a younger actor. This also takes some pressure off from the new guy. He went through some cosmic dimension shit so he's a changed man and not a carbon copy of Downey Jr's performance.
My explanation might sound shitty because I'm not a native speaker but I wouldn't be surprised if they pull a stunt like this in case they need to recast.
This is an issue that I feel studios have overlooked when planning these ongoing movie series with indefinite installments and solo character movies, most actors will get tired of playing the same characters in the same story over and over agin for years, sure they can replace the odd actor with another one, but when a number of them all decide to start jumping ship replacing them all with different actors is just going to be jarring as fuck and mess with the cohesion of the series.
He's not gonna take over anything
b-but WE WUZ HEROES
>I only have like 50k in the bank
I'm a sad, sad dishwasher :(
After Infinity War they are going to have to recast some parts since no one who has fulfilled their contracts is going to want to return anymore.
After that they MCU is going to go downhill somewhat especially since people can get autistic about recasting.
It was rumored a couple years ago that Marvel Studios wants to establish Doctor Strange as their new Iron Man figure in the MCU after Downey leaves, which would explain why they picked Cumberbatch for the whole - built-in audience from his fans.
Add in that they now have Spider-Man since that report and that secures two faces.
>His entire career is being a guy who spouts witty one liners.
You guys are retarded, he's pulled this same stunt about wanting to leave like 2 times already to get a bigger payday, he always unsurprisingly comes back. He's trying to squeeze Disney as much as possible.
Fucking Disney and their boundless greed is already spreading thin.
>We want Iron Man 20! Just hook him up to the life support machine, we can cg him to look younger.
It's going to happen with star wars too.
