Here's what's gonna happen guys, I'm gonna guess:

Infinity War part 2 ends with some of the A-lister heroes sacrificing themselves to beat Thanos. This being Marvel, they obviously don't want to kill their heroes for good. So at least Iron Man, maybe someone else as well (possibly Cap, Evans says he likes doing the movies but wants to direct more, he might want to do that) do the ultimate sacrifice. It'll be something like them taking Thanos down with them, dragging him with the Infinity Gauntlet into some Space Dimension XYEYA like in comic books. With Cap you don't need to recast, they can use Bucky or even the black dude like in the comics to take his place as the new Cap. With Iron Man, they can essentially soft reboot. He "dies" in this alternative dimension but somehow miraculously survives and like Dr Strange or some cosmic hero manages to find Iron Man. They drag him out. But because it's cosmic space dimension and shit, his face, height, voice, age, everything has changed. This is how they can keep the old continuity and essentially soft reboot the character with a younger actor. This also takes some pressure off from the new guy. He went through some cosmic dimension shit so he's a changed man and not a carbon copy of Downey Jr's performance.

My explanation might sound shitty because I'm not a native speaker but I wouldn't be surprised if they pull a stunt like this in case they need to recast.

This is an issue that I feel studios have overlooked when planning these ongoing movie series with indefinite installments and solo character movies, most actors will get tired of playing the same characters in the same story over and over agin for years, sure they can replace the odd actor with another one, but when a number of them all decide to start jumping ship replacing them all with different actors is just going to be jarring as fuck and mess with the cohesion of the series.
