>>64863225 Creates a set of very interesting characters who all have different reasons to distrust eachother and then completely destroys it by being self-indulgent and having the customaray ending of all the characters shooting eachother.
Tarantino has no idea on how to edit down his movies, he's said that when he makes movies there's no director's cut down the line because whatever he releases is his director's cut. He's too arrogant to self-analyse the problems of his scripts and thinks everyone loves exploitation flicks just as much as he does.
>>64863747 >thinks everyone loves exploitation flicks just as much as he does
Or maybe he's just making movies for himself. Maybe, despite what a number of people might think, an artist doesn't owe the audience anything and can create for his own reasons. Hell, at this point, Tarantino IS his own goddamn genre. Nigger.
dunno I kind of liked it... it was definitely better than Django it also felt like 2 hours so that was nice in retrospect there are things that were unnecessary but he shouldve replaced them with something more juicy than straight up cutting them still enjoyed it, I'd say on par with the Basterds
>>64866315 No, they don't. But to insinuate that Tarantino's a bad director because he doesn't cater to another person's tastes(yourself included) is disingenuous and, frankly, misses the point of criticism.
>>64866350 Leo was one of the few good things in the movie >inb4 le reddit
>>64866305 Does he even like feet anymore or has his fetish completely changed from beautiful milky feet to getting raped by niggers? Considering by how many minutes he played out his bbc sucking fantasy I'd say we're not seeing any more feet in his movies, but more black dingus. Also >trash fetish How long have you been a cuckold?
>>64863225 How could Tarantino take a song from a movie and put it in his movie? I mean it has been done before, the same song in several movies, but even if he got the rights, how could he tolerate taking a song that was specifically written for another movie and put it in his?
>both my sis and her bf have a cold >coughing loudly throughout the movie >crackling the bag of gummy worms in my right ear >then suddenly 3 pothead hippies with clothes threaded from pure hemp sit right infront of me
fuck why do I even go to theatres, they're only fun if you're the only one in it
>>64866568 The movie is an adaptation of a script written for a stageplay. Domergue's Got a Secret would have been spoken by a Narrator before the next scene. Knowing that the coffee is poisoned, and that it was poisoned by someone in the room, is absolutely essential for the tension in the following scene.
The Hateful Eight doesn't play out like most Westerns. It's a weird, half-born thing. I deeply enjoyed the film, but I absolutely see why a number of anons didn't. It broke far too many conventions and, at the same time, was too familiar. The point of the film is all about that tension that builds and builds. From the moment you sit down, you know that one of those no good sons of bitches is a bigger asshole than the rest. It plays on that.
Tarantino films are like fusion cuisine. He plays off of every genre he covers, mixing it with 70's grandiosity and exploitation. It's almost always weird and fun for cinemafiles but it's rarely perfect.
>>64872868 because you should realise that you are a wonderful person, no matter who you are anon. I believe in you, you deserve to have your desires fulfilled. I mean this from the bottom of my heart.
>>64863757 4 people arrive on a buss.. then 4 more.. only confusing thing is the trailer before the movie that some fan released and said people who weren't actually main parts of the movie were the eight
> i hate white people too > a-am I black enough guise ? can i join u now the movie. He used to be so cool in his Pulp Fiction times. I guess he's just a falling star now, grasping at straws to be relevant.
>>64877691 Not to go to argue over stylistic choice(especially considering that the movie is an adaption of a stageplay), but showing someone poisoning the coffee without revealing WHO has done it, would be very difficult for the scene.
The movie/play is about ratcheting up the tension between all the characters. By the time we get to that chapter, we've likely decided in our heads who the secret bad guy is(right or wrong). We've begun to suspect at least one of the characters. By distracting us with the previous scene involving a black man's dingus, it provides the opportunity for us to miss details. Having the camera focus in on the coffee while some "unknown hand" poisons it won't work in a play, and if done here, it destroys the tension built during the black dingus story by distracting the audience. The dingus is unsettling for a reason, and the faux-calm that follows is there for a reason. We're supposed to relax after a climactic scene like the shooting of the old confederate general, and we're expecting to relax for a moment when the chapter ends. But we're denied that by being given the knowledge that the coffee's been poisoned and several characters might drink it. During the song we KNOW the bad thing HAS happened and we're waiting for the consequences. When they come, their so...bad it serves as another climax that is in itself fucking unsettling.
>>64879372 That's not the point. Showing the fingertips IMMEDIATELY takes the audience away from the fucked up story being told. It essentially destroys the tension in the scene just so you don't have to hear a voice over.
>assume the movie is going to be a descent into madness as these eight extreme and conflicting personalities are forced together into this tight, controlled environment >SOMEONE POISONED THE COFFEE LMAO
movie was great up until that point desu. The WARM BLACK DINGUS scene was a bit much but I choose to interpret it as Warren telling a bullshit story just to make the General mad
In reality, it was obvious that it was one of two people right away for me.
The first was OB. The second was Joe Gauge. These are the only two characters that are not directly accounted for in that scene. Chris is standing up cursing at Warren, Hiccox is next to him, John and Daisy are on the opposite side of the table. Bob is at the piano.
OB and JG are not accounted for, but you know that it wasn't OB who poisoned the coffee because he drank the shit.
Viola, its Joe Gauge and if you go back and watch the scene with the frame I'm giving you it's obvious who did it right away
>>64880144 Bingo. Ostensibly, the story is fucked up to unnerve the general, and as clever movie goers we know it's just there to be edgy, but it's really there so we focus on it and don't pay attention to who is actually in the scene.
>DUDE 70MM FILM LMAO >a couple of long establishment shots here and there >rest of the fucking movie takes place in a shitty cabin >MUH BLACK DINGUS
CM8 are cucks, they fucking apologized for leaking the movie early. It's fucking trash. Fucking wish someone leaked a workprint earlier of this pile of vomit of a film so I could shout from the rooftops how shit this movie is earlier. Fuck this shit.
remove chapter four and make at least one more of the "badguys" non badguys and instead someone with an interesting motive or something clever
the movie was perfectly set up for some smart and sneaky clever shit with all that buildup and then it just turned into meh everyone is bad and heres some silly pointless scenes about how they killed everyone to get set up at minnies
what makes him hate himself so much? is it purely because of freudian reasons? his white dad left his mom, and his mom got 'revenge' by acting out by dating negros for whatever reason, and quentin watched it all as a child. he wants to be the black guy.
The Hateful Eight is what happens when Tarantino gets too self-indulgent. It so happens that the Academy doesn't like Tarantino enough to enjoy his personality showing through in a film, but many people do.
Just think about it, Pulp Fiction, Kill Bill, Inglorious Basterds were really story-driven, you wanted to know how that clusterfuck would resolve itself. The Hateful Eight is character and style-driven because the story in itself isn't that surprising. Instead, as soon as the first four characters meet in the wagon you know shit is gonna happen and the tension keeps you going, using nigger liberally and the cynicism of the characters makes it interesting.
When I was watching it I was thinking simultaneously "wow this is really long and drawn out, I don't know if it works so well" and then dingus and shit started coming down. I left feeling like it all meant something. I really fucking love it, one of his best work.
>>64879335 The fact that he used the best instrument available to execute that scene doesn't excuse the poor storytelling that made him arrive at such decision. The narration, particularly the Domergue's Got a Secret bit was one of the most heavy-handed uses of exposition in recent memory. Some stories aren't meant to be told. Maybe he should have discarded this script after it leaked.
>>64863454 Yep. Exactly. It was a clunky scene, that was probably put after the intermission as the 'flow' of the movie had already been broken. But seriously, if I was in film school, and submitted a movie where I had narrated the start of one scene to explain what was going on, I'd fail and get laughed at. Tarantino obviously didn't go to film school though.
