>>64725826 I love how all you underage faggots actually believe this. Now THIS is a meme, the whole "Hicks and Carlin are just edgy teenagers meme"
You all have absolutely ZERO perspective. Back when they were saying all of that shit that STILL gets quoted to this day about things like religion and politics, no one was saying that shit, man. Certainly not in the mainstream media. You still had shows on the air like Highway to Heaven, and they were the most popular shows of the day.
Look at pic related. No one was saying shit like that back then. Especially not in comedy. Now, everyone does it, but what you fail to realize is that is directly because of them. Hicks transformed comedy in the same way Lenny Bruce and Pryor did. He just took it to the next level. The introduced talking about the truth that was happening in their lives. Hicks and Carlin took it a step further to talk about the truth as they saw it about the world.
>>64726403 Every time someone's only criticism is 'reddit', especially of someones 20 year old work, you know that it is a troll or underage b&
>>64726695 Just like Tool and Kubrick. But you know what? People who hate an artist because of a vocal minority of their fans who post online are far worse than those fans themselves. They are the kind of people whose only criticism for a film is that it is 'overrated'.
I love this fucking song. Once again, way ahead of its time. Fucking /r9k/ theme song.
One of the reasons people here hate on Hicks is because all of his quotes that get 'memed' (see, image macros) are segues or expositions that bind his material together. By material, I mean the more linear jokes.
This one of his greatest bits, and there is absolutely none of the shit that everyone defines him by. It's way better when you actually can SEE him, but this was the best one I could find on youtube without looking too hard. If you have never really heard Hicks, I suggest you start here.
I really don't like a lot of these. They don't work as well as these little one liners on the image macros. Parts get left out, and plus his delivery is fantastic. Although, I challenge you to read his quotes without it being in his voice.
Is anyone else going to contribute? Fuck. People just come in a thread to say 'reddit' and leave. Do this people just post reddit in every single /tv/ thread all day long? WTF happened to this place? Was TFA? Has that driven everyone away?
My favorite Hedberg joke was always "I'd really hate to be a giraffe with a sore throat because god damn." Because it's just so simple, and stupid. There is no build up to it, and he moves right on to the next joke.
>>64728996 >half his act is his perfected dude weed delivery.
Jesus, the amount of stupidity in this thread. Listen to any actual comedian talk about him and they all praise his unique delivery. There is still no one like him, but at the time he was completely original.
>>64729311 I don't know how, but Mitch Hedberg went completely under my radar for the longest time. I had simply never heard of the guy. One day one of my best friends introduced me to his material, and I fell in love with his style. The very next day was the day he died.
I also saw Carlin live in what turned out to be his final tour.
Don't really have a point to make, Just sharing some quasi-relevant blogpost information.
>>64730628 Don't feed the trolls, please. Carlin originally started out wanting to do radio, then got into comedy. His style evolved constantly over the years, and his material changed when his personal views changed.
>>64726841 Why are fans of Kubrick hated exactly? He's one of the most universally revered directors ever, seems like hating his fans is just you telling yourself you're cooler than everyone else who likes him.
In the late 1960s, Carlin was making about $250,000 annually. As a tax shelter he bought a private jet — a twin-engine Aero Commander 1121 Jet Commander. Carlin hired pilots to fly him to various tour dates.
In concert at Harrisburg, Pennsylvania Eventually, Carlin changed his routines and his appearance. Carlin hired talent managers — Jeff Wald and Ron De Blasio — to help him reinvent his image, making him look more hip for a younger audience. Wald put Carlin into much smaller clubs such as The Troubadour in West Hollywood and The Bitter End in New York City. Wald says that Carlin's income was thus reduced by 90%, but his later career arc was greatly improved. In 1970, record producer Monte Kay formed the Little David Records subsidiary of Atlantic Records, with comedian Flip Wilson as co-owner.
>>64731497 There is a huge difference between making fun of something and imposing your own ideology on it. Youd have to be stupid to not understand that.
>>64731573 I left them off because I didnt want to type out your whole list, but philosophers and writers tend to analyze things to some degree, and most people study or put actual work into becoming an actor or philosopher.
go ahead and tell me comedians do too count this as my LMAO response
>>64732423 You are not backing up anything you are saying with any kind of facts. Anyone can say something that is true. Stand-up comedy is probably the most difficult art form to be successful at. It is just brutal. Those guys, especially the greats, dedicate their entire lives to that shit, and they tend to educate themselves on the material that they riff on. You're LMAO doesn't mean shit. Are you saying film makers and comedians don't analyze shit? Political satire has a rich history of being extremely poignant and important to culture and society.
>>64728553 I remember this guy from Gavin McInnes' show. He showed up in what can only be described as black people clothes from K&G fashion superstore. I expected nothing from him. They played a few clips and I was amazed. He's legit trying to find the edge when most stand-up comedians are doing different variations of the same act or just complete shit.
I totally forgot about him since, so thanks for posting this. I think he will be a performer who is loved after he dies or in his 50s, maybe 60s.
>>64732816 I saw him and Joey Diaz open for Rogan. I got high right before I went to my seat. When Duncan brought out Lil Hobo it was too much for my to handle emotionally. Very good bit. But I wasn't ready for it in that state of mind.
>>64732081 Do you not know that all postmodern ideology is just bullshit? No one sincerely believes in anything, it's just target market and demographics. You just pick whatever you want to make money on as long as the system supports it (and the system also supports all kinds of impotent rage against it, or otherwise the whole thing would explode, the only thing that it doesn't support is being a honest decent person with strong beliefs trying to band together with others like that... that's a good way to earn a trip to the mental hospital or jail or worse).
