When you put it all together and look at it through the lens of Nolan's impeccable attention to detail, there's no way that the movies entire undercurrent of scathing criticism towards the destruction that the cultural left has done to western society's white male-driven ambitiousness is accidental.

He all but says that we as a species peaked in the 60s when our white male-driven society truly reached for the stars, only to have the preening, selfish desires of minorities and women (but what's in it for ME?) drag society down into the rut that we are stuck in today.

The main reason I watched the movie was because it seemed every person in Hollywood and other media channels who weren't even movie critics were saying that it was a bad film and people shouldn't watch it.

After watching it, no wonder. The violence was not excessive but it's anti-consumerism message is dangerous to vested business interests.
