Why did he stop acting in good movies? Did he just get bored?
>>
>why doesn't he play the same role in every movie he does

He's still in good movies, just not the type neckbeards watch.
>>
ooor maybe, nobody makes good movies anymore
>>
>>64690177
he's been playing the same grumpy old man in shitty comedies for like 20 years now
>>
>>64690126
we'll see how enthusiastic you are when you're 70
>>
$$$$$$
>>
>>64690217
The Intern was great and he was grumpy in that.
>>
>>64690267
*wasn't I mean. He played a nice friendly old men helping the younger ones.
>>
>>64690126
He retired from acting like 30 years ago and doing shitty movies is just his retirement fund

I'm honestly fine with it
>>
>>64690295
I really liked that movie too.
>>
>>64690338
This. He proved himself in the godfather, taxi driver, and raging bull
>>
>>64690415
Goodfellas you mean.
>>
>>64690126
I think most directors that hire him nowadays don't have enough vision to make him do something better. So now he's just the old grumpy guy who used to be a bad ass. And he probably doesn't care much at this point, he must accept easily.
>>
>>64690126
hes padding his nest egg for those mulatto children of his. eddie murphy been doin the same thing for the 9 kids he has.

Jackie Brown was more true than we realized at the time. After Heat, maybe acouple flicks later and he went to shit. Somebody shoulda put him out of his misery before it was too late...
>>
>>64690126
He lost most of his fortune, many million of dollars, in Madoff's Ponzi scheme.
So if he wants to maintain his expensive lifestyle he needs the work.
It doesn't matter if the movie is good or bad, the paycheck is what's important.
>>
>>64690126

Doesn't care anymore. I think he's just 'providing' now for his family.

He can still play a mobster role though, his small role in American Hustle for example, you could see that ol bob still fucking has it when he gives a fuck.

If Scorsese goes ahead with that proposed Irishman film then I have no doubts he'll be good in it.
>>
De Niro was one of the first actors to move away from traditional acting and into "method acting"
Raging Bull was the first time anyone transformed themselves for a role

Method actors aren't real actors though, they just like seeing themselves on screen and receiving praise
Traditional actors do it for the love of drama and performance
You can incorporate method acting into traditional acting. But actors (like de niro) that never practice any traditional acting aren't real "actors"
Tl;dr He never cared really cared about acting

>the intern was good

Welp Reddit and Tumblr have pretty much taken over at this point. What happened? Was it because of Star Wars?

He stopped caring about the quality of the movies once he realized his kids would get into school via affirmative action.
>>

goddamn his kids are ugly

Raycis!
>>
>>64690126
It's a widely recognized fact that DeNiro became a lot less choosy in his roles when he had to support his Tribeca investment financially.
>>
>>64692786
And now he's going to play Madoff himself in an upcoming movie.

yeah? surprisingly though, you don't see eddie that much anymore...

What a fucking joke. We need slavery to be brought back. Trump save us all.
>>
there is literally no reason that a financially secure person would look at the script for Joy and think it was something they just had to be involved in. He must have some deadly serious money problems that nobody knows about
>>
>>64693211
or he might just think "fuck it, it's my job, let's do this shit."...or working with Isabella might be worth it too. You know, a lot of times actors say that they choose such movie mostly to work with such and such...and it makes sense if you work a few weeks or months together.

Fucking amerishit culture is outright goddamn revolting. Unfuckingbelievable.

Being Flynn is his best acting he's done in years.
>>
>>64694345

i saw Being Flynn recently.. hit close to home. you're right though he pulled that character off very well. reminded me of a more extreme version of the crazy dad he played in Silver Linings Playbook
>>
Say what you want but I thought he was great in Meet the Parents and Meet the Fockers. The third one was irredeemable shit though.

And Deer Hunter. And The Mission. And Angel Heart. And Casino.
>>
>>64694648

>Angel Heart

I just rewatched that movie, he's so fucking good in it. Just that pure De Niro magnetism.

>The flesh is weak, Johnny. But the soul is immortal.
>And yours belongs to ME.
>>
>>64694781
Yep, brought that movie up a notch.
>>
>>64690126
When he realised the Academy wouldn't give him another Oscar.
>>
>>64690126

Look at his kids
>>
>>64694984

And in terms of "movies where respected actors play Satan" it was sure as shit better then The Devil's Advocate.

It's a shame Angel Heart has basically been forgotten like a lot of those 90's neo-noirs, there was excellent work in that pool of works.

>tfw you'll never see him play another villain like Max Cady

Very sad t.b.h.
>>
>>64695062
Yeah him and based Viggo were pretty good as Satan.
I secretly hope for another revival of neo noir but I'm afraid we live in times that are too cynical, even for noir movies.
>>
>>64695195

>based Viggo

Man that first Prophecy was so good.

>neo-noir revival

All those directors who made those kinds of movies got shuffled of to television. Even the king of 90;s neo-noir John Dahl is doing TV now, those kinds of mid-budget movies don't get made anymore.

The closest we've gotten recently was Gone Girl, which was great but that's one movie.

>first actors to move away from traditional acting and into "method acting"
never understood this. acting is acting, there is not several ways to act.

show me samples of method acting and ''traditional acting'' to see what you have in mind.
>>
>>64695332
>show me samples of method acting and ''traditional acting'' to see what you have in mind.

Just thinking, wouldn't traditional acting be more in the sense that you do vastly different kind of performances (not perse the different roles you play) with an on/off switch versus you have a guy that either has to live the lifestyle to get into the role he is performing as or a guy who no matter who he plays always plays more or less like himself cause he is lacking that on/off switch.
>>
>>64690126

He does some passable work now and again.

But I think he's just old man. He's like in his 70's. He probably doesn't really want to work too hard anymore.
>>
>>64692685

>Put him out of his misery

Really?

Look at what he's doing in his old age compared to, say, Charles Bronson or Marlon Brando.
>>
>>64692928
It was cozy and nice but honestly i only watched it cause of anne feet
>>
>>64695332

Anthony Hopkins vs. Daniel Day Lewis.

I'd like to see Daniel Day Lewis do a role which is extremely unnatural. Like fucking Darth Vader or something.
>>
>>64695332
It's impossible not to notice if you watch enough film
Jon Hamm playing Don Draper is the best example of how bad method acting is without any traditional training
Leo is also pretty lacking in any fundamental acting skills but he tries to "become" his characters instead
Then watch an actor like christian bale, ralph fiennes, and any character they do is instantly believable
>>
>>64690126
>"good" movies
>>
>>64695556
Daniel Day Lewis is a bad example because he was also a Shakespearean actor and he started doing intense method acting
>>
>>64695556

But Daniel Day Lewis doesn't do shitty movies that are designed for kids, so that would never happen.
>>
>>64692685
What do you mean by that? He was great in Jackie Brown.
>>
>>64690126
He got old. Old people don't care about reputation. They just want to be comfy. So he picks scripts he thinks will be easy and pay decently, and lives a comfy life.
>>
>>64696631

I think he means the fact that De Niro was playing an over-the-hill joke who used to be a badass.

Absolute pottery and all that.
