It's schizophrenic. Characters and plot points come and go with little purpose, arcs go dormant for three films and then return abruptly. It's probably the messiest, trashiest piece of shit franchise ever.

Fond memories of the first one. It was one of 20 VHS tapes my family owned, so I watched it a lot as a kid. Many years later, upon learning it had a sequel, I re-watched it. Surreal experience. Barring maybe the laser gore scene, the movie played out entirely different than my memory, even though I'd watched it repeatedly. It was bad now. A weightless main character, dimensionless side-characters, no tone or atmosphere, no point or entertainment value. There was style, sometimes. CGI aged terribly.

Then I watched Apocalypse. I remember being blown away by how much it felt like cheap Syfy channel schlock. After going through the trouble of revisiting the first film, I felt like I'd wasted my time. It wasn't even so-bad-it's-good. The new characters: bland, the sense of aesthetics: intolerable. The ending nonsensical, like the indulgence of an artistic work in the hands of someone on the polar opposite extreme.

Extinction was a weirdly conventional film in comparison. It felt more like something that would be shown in a theater. Bad gore, dull. I remember the least about it.

Afterlife, well, there are some legitimately well-done, energetic, fun-to-watch scenes. But it's this film where the ending of Apocalypse becomes the status quo: a sandbox of nonsense. The ending sequence is almost avant-garde.

Then something odd happened with Retribution...the series veered so far off the deep end it ended up good. The fifth is fun to watch. The bad things about it are compellingly bad - the subplot with the deaf girl is so absurd, I literally can't imagine what the writers were thinking. It ends in the stupidest way possible, in one of the stupidest ending shots I've ever seen. So sublimely, mindbogglingly stupid that I'm legitimately, sincerely excited for the sixth one.

1 was a decent low-budget sci-fi horror action movie despite shitting on the games.

2 was so goddamn retarded it was fun.

3 was legit good at times end arguably the best. I felt for the characters and there seemed to be an underlying theme of loss. I was expecting to have fun like with 2 but felt like I got punched in the gut. Also has the best line in the series:

4 was three absolutely badass setpieces strung along a boring and by-the-numbers plot. It should have been a chase movie across the whole world. Instead they hide out in a prison. Luther is best new character.

5 is absolutely retarded in good and bad ways. Shit writing. Oded Faher is wasted. Leon sucks. They get bonus points for giving Barry a hero's exit. Awesome final fight. GOAT score. President Wesker.

Can't wait for 6. Too bad people keep getting hurt or killed on set.

1 was what it needed to be in order to sell tickets. Not a very good movie but not terrible.

2 was commendable for having so many connections to the games but was a fuck retarded movie.

3 tried to be a Romero zombie movie and failed miserably. Also, nothing happened in the entire movie.

4 was the best so far just because of how retarded it was. It's the only one to reach into "so bad it's funny" territory.

5 tried to take the concepts from 4 and turn it into something competent. The result was a bland, pointless commercial product.

I honestly can't wait for these movies to be over so they can reboot the franchise and maybe start accurately adapting the games.

IIRC it was the third movie said her "blood is the cure" so that in itself would make her the very definition of a Mary Sue but I think since she is presented in such a way that makes it somewhat forgivable.
