So is this show worth watching? If so when does it hit its prime?
The show is ridiculous. It purports that straight (not bisexual, straight) women can become lesbians, it softens the idea of demons sexually interacting with humans, it is totally anti-masculine, and it culturally appropriates Asian martial arts in a really brazen and incongruous way.
The first 3 seasons are the only worthwhile ones. It ends with her finishing high school. Season 4 picks up with her going to college. It's pretty shit, but the main plot of that season is essentially the origin for what became Cabin in the Woods. Season 5 randomly introduces a little sister for Buffy and it just gets worse and worse. No reason for it to go past high school.
Don't listen to theses guys. While it may not be as good as the first seasons, it's fun to watch and there are great episodes ahead
Be aware, some passage of season 4 are the low point of the show, and the 6 and 7 seasons may be a little weird because they intended to end the serie at the fifth.
That said I really think it's a great show overall, and it's worth the watch. As anon said, you want to pick up Angel later. It's slow to start, but it's really good
>doesn't even use a thread appropriate gif
Watch a superior teen show, OP.
some, if you're anti joss, but still curious, maybe try angel
he had a far lower amount of work on angel, i think he wrote a grand total of three episodes. he just did the overarching plots, and had other people write
with those numbers, david boreanaz wrote two of the episodes, nearly the same amount
Angel was objectively a better show but Buffy usually get's more praise
Prime Buffy is considered seasons 2 and 3. Season 1 is basic Buffy.
Only watch best episodes of rest of the seasons.
The Harsh Light of Day
Something Blue (you like Buffy/Spike)
Buffy vs Dracula
Once More With Feeling
Last three episodes if you like Evil Willow
End of Days
Buffy is ok. Has its moments. Joss hasn't made any bad shows over all. Angel is better though. Wesley had a great fucking arc. And oh god I was in love with Fred. I'd wife her even when
she went all blue demon goddess
> If so when does it hit its prime?
Partway through season 2. (First season is pretty weak.)
>Angel was objectively a better show
Angel tried to be grittier and take itself more seriously, which didn't work very well when the bad guys are as silly as they are in the Buffy/Angel universe. Also, the cast for Buffy was, on the whole, stronger. Angel had its moments, and Buffy tends to get remembered only for its strongest period, but Buffy definitely wins in a match-up.
>Angel tried to be grittier and take itself more seriously, which didn't work very well when the bad guys are as silly as they are in the Buffy/Angel universe
It did work but they decided to cast a more Buffyverse slant hence S3 onwards was more campy. They were trying to please Buffyfans so they would watch Angel as at the time not all Buffyfans watched Angel for whatever reason.
Angel is one of the only shows i've seen where the 5th season was so much better than earlier seasons. in all other shows, by the time they get to season five they are either irreversibly declining in quality or merely treading water
One of the best series ever made, same goes for angel. It beats the ever loving shit out of whats currently going on today.
Great casting, chemistry, music, beautiful women the feminists weren't malicious hateful cunts.
Just watch buffy first, then angel despite the viewing order guides that are out there. Currently on season 6 and has less of it's charm going from episode to episode between series.
>it's a Spike turns Tara straight and fucks her silly episode
watched it. thought it was meh at best. also they pretty much used the same plotline for Smash like 3 times. (just how many fucking times do i have to watch him tell his mama he got into college?)
>It's a buffy punches a robber puppet and we're supposed to take it seriously episode
The consensus is that Season 4 is shit, but I've learned that the consensus is often wrong. I find Season 4 and onwards to be Buffy prime, where Joss no longer cares, everything goes batshit insane and the show becomes overtly absurd.
I find the same to be true for Angel, which gets progressively better with time and by season 5 it becomes the best buffyverse material out there.
what was so bad about it? It had Angelous, Faith and qt Willow, not to mention an engaging storyline that doesn't stop to breathe for like 15 episodes.
>but MUH CORDELIA WAS RUINED
pls, she was a shit character way before she was possessed. there was nothing there to ruin.
Fuck his development. lovesick poppy Spike was worst Spike. he always worked best as the comic relief character and they should have kept him that way. At least they sorta reverted him back to that on Angel.
Is season 1 skippable if I have a basic knowledge of the show anyway ? I tried to rewatch all of the show but that season is just a chore to go through and it's not even that long. What are the essentials plot points that occur during the season should I know ?
Spike is the main reason I enjoyed the later seasons of Buffy.
OP I'd say it's worth watching all the way through, it's not going to blow your mind or anything but it's a good enough show and the high points are really good.
Fucking hell there needs to be another spin off. Tech is decent enough to de age spike and angel. Joss whedon is a total fucking stooge for not doing so, this is only vampire stuff I can enjoy. I hate everything else.
>early seasons cordelia and buffy
best casting in any series ever? i dont think theres a single character i felt could have been played better by anyone else in the show, even seth green was great
they can always make one of those cinematic video game. that's a good way to keep the actors looking young, just like 'until dawn' made Hayden Panettiere look like her early 20s self again.
they should just make a new game period, chaos bleeds on gamecube was no masterpiece but i had a lot of fun with it even though SMG didnt voice buffy which was a damn shame
90s style with unlockable outfits (vampirella?) and beating vamps and demons to shit with insane combos
or like that ellen paige game where they use actual actors to mocap everything then just de-age them 20 years, good writing would be key though
hell i'd take an interactive story game like walking dead, sam and max and the wolf among us or whatever it's called, just something
Watch untill the end of seson 3, then switch to Angel instead since it starts right after the end of season 3 and is much better than Buffy post season 3, it also ends at a high note unlike Buffy that ended when it was complete garbage.
