R.I.P my nigga
*pours out a forty*
The prequels werent planned from the very start of the series. So they were named stuff like "a new hope" "empire strikes back" etc.
When the prequels were being planned, then they numbered the moves accordingly.
sure that wasnt in the remastered versions?
oh, well guess I was wrong then. seems weird to have planned out 6 movies before you even know if the first one will flop or not though.
what is this reddit piece of shit
I'm going to record myself shitting from different angles onto a printed image of George Lucas and put some vapid emotional stock music in the background so you reddit refugees can le upvoted my epic 4chan dot org slash tee vee meme
>dead inside bitchboi is mad as fuck: the post
They weren't planned. George just wanted it to be that you were coming into a story in the middle.
Remasters have it say "Episode IV A NEW HOPE" when it was originally just "STAR WARS
I love this one. Obi-Wan wasn't special, he wasn't born as a super force sensitive wizard with the potential for infinite power or anything, yet he fights and defeats opponents who should be way ahead of him. He's the best example of hard work paying off and overcoming the odds in the entire series IMO.
No prophecy or extra midi-
chromosomesneeded, he still holds his ground with the best of them.
>see someone on /tv/ endorse something
>know with 100% certainty before looking at it that it's some "joke" being rehashed for the ten thousandth time
What's it like being a shitty person with a low IQ and a severely impaired sense of humor? Cringeworthy memespouting inbred moron.

What the fuck did you just fucking say about me, you little bitch? I’ll have you know I graduated top of my class in the Navy Seals, and I’ve been involved in numerous secret raids on Al-Quaeda, and I have over 300 confirmed kills. I am trained in gorilla warfare and I’m the top sniper in the entire US armed forces. You are nothing to me but just another target. I will wipe you the fuck out with precision the likes of which has never been seen before on this Earth, mark my fucking words. You think you can get away with saying that shit to me over the Internet? Think again, fucker. As we speak I am contacting my secret network of spies across the USA and your IP is being traced right now so you better prepare for the storm, maggot. The storm that wipes out the pathetic little thing you call your life. You’re fucking dead, kid. I can be anywhere, anytime, and I can kill you in over seven hundred ways, and that’s just with my bare hands. Not only am I extensively trained in unarmed combat, but I have access to the entire arsenal of the United States Marine Corps and I will use it to its full extent to wipe your miserable ass off the face of the continent, you little shit. If only you could have known what unholy retribution your little “clever” comment was about to bring down upon you, maybe you would have held your fucking tongue. But you couldn’t, you didn’t, and now you’re paying the price, you goddamn idiot. I will shit fury all over you and you will drown in it. You’re fucking dead, kiddo.
He's gone anon.
Forced to sell his lifes work to be rid of the constant hatred from millions of people.
Donated billions of his earnings to charity because the money meant nothing to him. He just wanted to be free of it all.
>when Lucas' genius is finally captured through these edits
I-I'm so sorry Lucas.
>that defeated look knowing he will never complete his masterpiece
>Goofy in Vader costume
"What have I done"
Tbh I cant blame Lucas for using that much CGI, at the time it seemed like a new an innovative thing to use. He wanted the prequels to stand on its own, without relying on the OT. Sadly things like Jar Jar and boring script ruined a trilogy.
>original Star Wars Crawl just said Episode IV
The original Star Wars just said "Star Wars"
When Empire Strikes Back came out they called it episode V, and at that point they went back and called the original Episode IV.
Get your facts straight.
I'm not hopping on the "prequels weren't terrible" meme, but a lot of the clips and screenshots being posted -look- better than I remember (besides that clone wars shit).
A lot of the cgi has aged better than I expected, even though it was thought to look hokey at the time.
Originally the timeline info from when the prequels didn't exist states that Anakin duels with Obi Wan and is thrown/falls into a volcano
As in Obi Wan really thinks that guy is dead until he returns much later
not quite true, ANH was modified to include episode IV in the intro sprawling text. This was done for the re-release of ANH in theatres in 1978.
There is a reason he was called the best actor of his generation. Fucking hilarious that he ended up in Star Wars of all films, with Lucas' hammy dialogue. He was still the only one who knew it would be a success and asked for a PERCENTAGE cut.
This just shows that Lucas has a very limited vocabulary of motifs, many of the repeats carry no actual significance.
For example, Luke falling in Cloud City and Anakin falling in Coruscant has nothing to do with each other except visually. When Luke falls it demonstrates Luke's agency through a very clear choice: He chooses to defy his father's will and temptation, and instead falls with the slight hope of surviving undefiled; it is clear that death is a preferable alternative to the dark side. Furthermore, he loses the artifact which was his only connection to his father's status as a hero, emphasizing the change in Luke's paternal perception.
When Anakin falls, it has barely any significance, it merely shows that he is reckless, and has a strong connection to the force.
That's a good point. I guess what I miss is some kind of way for the visuals to relate to each other, not a direct repeat.
Of course I'm not a filmmaker, but repeating motifs without having any deeper thought behind it bothers me. This is of course also an issue in episode IV, but that had the advantage of standing well on its own, like you didn't need an extensive knowledge of pulp sci-fi in order to enjoy it.
I want to like these videos. I really do. And in every prequel bit with Ewan McGregor, they're great. But it just falls flat for me with pretty much most Hayden parts. I really wanted to believe that Anakin Skywalker was this, to quote Obi Wan in RotS, "strong and wise" jedi warrior. But the way his character is written and acted in prequels is just not that. Anakin is never shown as wise. The complete opposite in fact, he's always an idiotic, reckless, and petulant teenager. People are complaining about Kylo Ren being an "emo" but prequels Anakin was always leagues worse, he was like a soap drama character. The shot of him with the hood after falling to the dark side, with the single tear streaming down his face is absolutely awful.
It's a terrible shame because these edits really do make you realise just how good the prequels could have been, the potential was so high. If only Lucas had some people around him to help refine his ideas, the casting, and the directing.
Drawing parallels and copying your earlier work is not clever, smart, or praiseworthy when it's done poorly and without thought, for no other reason than to try and make things "rhyme". Sorry guys.
>And–back to the Revenge of the Sith–the price for the film’s sticking to these same New Age motifs is not only its ideological confusion, but, simultaneously, its inferior narrative quality. These motifs are why Anakin’s transformation into Darth Vader–the series’ pivotal moment–lacks the proper tragic grandeur. Instead of focusing on Anakin’s hubris as an overwhelming desire to intervene, to do Good, to go to the end for those he loves and thus fall to the Dark Side, Anakin is simply shown as an indecisive warrior who is gradually sliding into Evil by giving way to the temptation of Power, by falling under the spell of the evil Emperor. In other words, Lucas lacked the nerve to really apply his parallel between the shift of the Republic to Empire and of Anakin to Darth Vader. Anakin should have become a monster out his very excessive attachment with seeing Evil everywhere and fighting it.
>tfw you agree with Zisek for once
>Literally none of the 'Star Wars' shots were used in TFA
>not even the entering hyperspace camera tilt shot
>instead we got JJ hackbrams solar flared shit
I'd like to think lucas did this intentionally to make it seem obi wan simply just didnt tell him the truth in the OT.
We actually see the same thing happen between luke and kylo in the novels.
Also most people generally like kylo ren because he actually has a character and gials hes trying to achieve.
Anakin was just poorly acted and written in the prequels, though clone wars animated tries to make up for it.
Holy fuck, obi-wan is the most based character in the franchise and it's not even close. Ewan McGregor was so good.
Also these edits are making me realise what another actor said earlier in the thread, Sir Alec Guiness was a fucking amazing actor, the reactions he gives to hearing the name "Obi Wan" really makes you believe it, completely sells it to me.
>Why didn't JJ hackbrams copy the originals???
>Why did JJ copy the originals???
This board is ridiculous, just admit no matter how good TFA was you were determined to find some autistic reason to hate it no matter what you contrarian fucks.
>Sir Alec Guiness was a fucking amazing actor
I think the most amazing thing about Guiness is that he manages to give a convincing performance, despite hating being there. He was a total pro
>Ewoks ruined Jedi
I will never understand this.
I mean I don't think they're great, but they make sense within the story.
Which is more than you can say about Jar Jar, unless you go by the Darth theory.
>Plagiarizing a better director's work is an 'homage'
Based shitposter, I'm glad you're here to violently tug a fat plug out of your asshole and expel steaming, blood-laced excrement all over the thread.
I have a fan remaster of the original, and there's no "Episode IV" to be found in the opening crawl.
Man, I fucking love Star Wars.
The Clone Wars series kinda justified the slow start for the prequals. I dont even mind being jew'd and milked, Ill love star wars. I remember watching evert Star Wars with my brother, and now recently we saw TFA together.
There's one thing to pay homage, a little nod to the OT is fine. But he literally copied the whole plot and build up, that's not a homage, that's just copying.
Like how they showed Boba Fett's origin in the prequels, that's a homage.
I did this too,
Star Wars is one of the only interests we still have in common.
The prequels are alright desu senpai, I liked them when I was a kid. They could have been so much better though, if someone had been willing to tell Lucas "no."
the nods in the prequels were meant to parallel the OT while the winks and nods in the new movie is meant to pander and jerk off grown men's ego.
learn the difference, Jar Jar Abrams.
