The entire movie was about accepting sadness as a part of life but they never did anything besides show how dumb and annoying sadness was. They never portrayed her as necessary, there was no reason they couldn't have just locked her up or thrown her into the abyss of forgotten memories and left it at that

It seemed promising for the first 15 or so minutes, however as soon as Sadness and Happiness which were the worst characters got lost and the plot focused on them almost entirely it was boring schlock

There was like the 10 seconds where joy realizes that the parents came to make her happy because she lost in hockey or something and was sad. They didn't touch on it enough though, I agree. Would have been better if she slowly realized that all the happyish memories came from initially being sad, would have been more powerful

I resorted to animation from the far east and It's working a lot better than western movies for some reason to be honest

The best parts were the interactions between characters and each other's emotions; and there were far too few of them. The best part of the whole flick was entirely demonstrated in the trailer ffs.

This is my biggest issue with the movie, everything would have been avoided if sadness wasn't a fucking autistic retard who couldn't just sit in her corner like she was told to
there are better ways to establish the concept of bittersweet memories than having sadness fuck everything up

The entire movie was White People Angst. There were no serious emotions beside what some sheltered middle class white kid with hipster young parents would go through, without a care in the world or pain in their life so they make up stupid stuff to feel bad about, like moving to a new town is somehow ultra-trauma. No, it's not.

If there had been an element like sexual abuse or serious trauma, like her seeing a friend die, I might have liked the movie more. I was hoping they'd do more with the parents and show them getting broke, going evicted, or becoming homeless, but no such luck. There looked like opportunities to build up to that too.

The only attempt at real "feels" was some goofy elephant prick dying. The worst part was at first I was hoping elephant man would be like the artful dodger or Fagan, all sneaky and manipulative out of desperation to get what he wants, but instead he's just a friendly goofball. Boring af.

I have tried to get all analytical with it and still cant make anything that would make sense to a childs mind.

I have spotted some clues though...

Perhaps, sadness knew her place like an instinct almost and when the girl was telling the school about ice hockey she started to feel sad out of nowhere like we sometimes do (thats why she touched it out of nowhere not knowing why but felt compelled to do so.)

Because the girl is young her "team" are still figuring out how to function together, growing and developing so to speak (note at the end she gets the "upgraded" control board too)

In reality, we cant live in constant joy as adults, this is showing the innocence of a child, fear anger and sadness naturally take a second place to out innocent minded fun (or Joy)

Another clue....Notice that the mothers team has her version of Sadness as the leader... NOT joy....

And the fathers leader is Anger...

Also at the end, joy realizes that the reason the happy memory of the team cheering the girl on, started with a sad memory of her in the tree..
