I know the autism of bane and fury road posting has something to do with some freudian desire to get Tom's hardie inside you but the dude isn't that impressive, not in this movie. literally just did an accent and probably went kind of method on the character but by no means a more complex or challenging character than leo's

I thought Leo and Hardy were both excellent. Leo's "kid" pulled me out of the movie though. I just didn't buy that he was related to Leo in any way.

I actually liked the fact he had an indian son, and could speak native language. It made him more of a neutral character between the whites vs indians. All the wind blowing and mommy visions were a bit much though, i'm glad we didn't got talking trees.

wind blowing was meant to help you get into the shoes of glass. everytime the wind blew he was reminded of his wife and his son and to be strong. it helped him get through the struggle.

If he gets the award it should be because he actually played well in the respective movie not because "the oscars always fuck him over!".

Leo also doesn't seem like the kind of guy to care about an award. He's already considered among the best and can land pretty much any role he wants. An award won't change anything.

again, the few times he had visions of his wife is to remind viewer what is constantly on his mind. he is fueled by some of the words she has said to him. not until the end of the film does he truly understand the knowledge she is trying to convey.

the visions you speak of happen maybe once or twice (not counting the ones of him seeing his wife), and they show that he is beginning to understand the culture of the native americans.
