They weren't. There were two women on the crew to four men. Back on Earth, there was one female scientist and one female PR rep, and the woman from the Chinese space agency, with meaningful speaking roles, compared to many more men.

There's actually an interesting hypothesis that men mentally over-represent women compared to their actual presence, seeing a room a quarter full of women as half-full of them, and a room half-full of women as being majority full and such. There might be some evolutionary benefit to that, I don't know, but it goes a long way towards explaining why men have trouble seeing a lack of representation in various areas.
