What kind of idiot gets a cat instead of a dog? Cats are just animals that hang around only to leech off your sick need to care for something while dogs are loyal and actually have a range of real emotions. Dogs are often compared to a 2-3 year old human child emotionally and intelligently while cats are only smart in the way you'd call a squirrel smart and are about as emotional as a cockroach. The only reason I can think of to own a cat is if you're too lazy to train your dog and let him outside to shit. If you're that lazy then you're not fit to be taking care of any animal in my opinion.

People prefer dogs because they say they're loyal, but that's only because they've been biologically ingrained to be be dependent pack animals on us. They're placid, unlike cats, who're biologically ingrained to be independent if necessary.

Sure, a dog may show more affection then you're average cat, but it's nothing special since it's in their domesticated nature. Meanwhile, if you happen to share a close relationship with a cat, that really means something; there's actually a bond of trust there. This is coming from someone who's owned cats and dogs, by the way.

Dogs: children ages 3-10. They love you, listen to your commands regardless of personal benefit, you mean the world to them, but that's more or less the result of a highly dependent mentality; aren't exactly hygienic either.

There are dogs like this and they're amazing. Though the only independent breed that I'm personally familiar with is the great pyrenees, they are the most human-like dog I've dealt with. They were bred roam the fields and make decisions by themselves. It can be frustrating when they only listen to you 70% of the time but it's well worth it just for their unique personalities compared to dogs like labs and goldens.
