I haven't watched Rebels but I've heard mixed things about it

Clone wars volume 1+2 are great.
The clone wars might be okay after season 3 or something.
Rebels is shit but kind of watchable.
Caravan of courage and battle for endor are very shitty, but not as bad as I remembered them.
Droids is not very interesting. But there was a dvd with some more watchable episodes on it.
Ewoks is just plain retarded. The poor mans gummi bears.
Holiday special is not bearable at all.

There are also very few good fanfilm shorts. Stay away from shitty 2hour films. But bounty trail for example is okay.

It literally captures the Star Wars vibe better a thousand times over Clone Wars.

Clone Wars is just shitty war porn for kids, dry plots (save this planet, HOSTAGES, we need to work with our enemies) recycled over and over.

Rebels has adventure, magic, and likable characters.

Rebels is mediocre and sterile. Space Alladin with slingshot is kinda of a stupid design, Ahsoka is somehow less kickass than she was 15 years ago, Sabine is shit, inquisitors are grossly incompetent, Chopper and Zeb are mostly comic reliefs, old guys not having nearly enough screentime etc.

I'm not pretending that Clone Wars was perfect, especially early on, and episode order was beyond retarded (to the point where you need a special list to watch episode in chronological order( but it's been consistently more interesting than Rebels so far.

Of course a large series like Transformers is going to have multiple directors working on it, and naturally Hasbro worked closely with the Japanese animators to get the robot designs right to sell more toys but the core of the animation production was done in Japan. Trying to make American animation and anime seem similar would require cherry-picking. Shows like SU, Adventure Time, MLP, Archer, Boondocks and Simpsons are very much representative of today's American animation, and they aren't anything like anime. With movies it's also pretty clear what the differences are.
