I walked out of the Phantom Menace and said "well, I guess that was ok"

I walked out of TFA and said "what the fuck did I just watch" which was also what I said after Attack of the Clones

So in terms of gut reaction, TFA is down with the worst prequel. Maybe I'll like it better in 2D

No he means Rey in force awakens. Anakin is only a pilot in TPM with the help of the piloting computer not an all around superhero like Rey. Also Anakin cannot be a Mary Sue because we know he turns to the darkside later on so he has moral ambiguity unlike Rey who is a goody two shoes do nothing wrong perfect superhero right from the start.

Anakin was just innocent in TPM, not a Mary Sue. He isn't immediately liked by obi wan and the ships pilot does half the flying anyway.

I don't get why kid anakin makes people so mad, he's just kind of "there" in the first movie to show he wasn't always fucking ass. It could have worked really well if the movie emphasised he was just an object to the Jedi too, and everything thing happening around him was completely out of his control. Then in 2 we see him slowly become more and more aware that he's just a pawn too the Jedi too (first he's a slave, then he's rushed into being a Jedi because "chosen one" and then refusing to let him go save his mother or live his own free life with padame , but we never really see anakin bitterness develop it just seems to happen sometime between 1 & 2 and it makes ep1 anakin seem like a completely different character to ep2&3 anakin for no good reason.

Anakin as a character changes throughout the story thus exhibits tremendous dynamism. Unlike Rey who will always be a perfect Mary Sue which leaves her character no room for progression or change.

We know what happens to her later. She is a Mary Sue she is not going to face any moral dilemmas or challenges she cannot overcome she will always be morally perfect and successful. Now I am still willing to be surprised, but at this point my expectation for the next movies has reached rock bottom. I fully expect the next movies to have the same writing flaws as these ones: no original ideas, flat characters and Mary Sues, etc.
