>it was great
>i loved it
That's right everyone, Mike Stoklasa, Mr Plinkett, thought The Force Awakens was a great movie, and that it was everything he hoped it would be.
Mike has been a softball critic for some time and seems to appreciate well-crafted flicks. TFA is nothing to write home about, but it's a well-crafted flick.
It's really a shame, because I really would like to see him dig into in character as Plinkett.
>and that it was everything he hoped it would be.
If you were hoping for anything other than what we got, you're a delusional retard.
It was always going to be a well-made 7/10 love-letter to the originals with zero creative vision.
He's done Plinkett reviews for movies he has liked before and shit on them for things they deserved to be shit on for, I'm sure he'll do one for this when it comes out on DVD too.
Yeah, he'd definitely be passing up on a huge opportunity for views if he didn't.
I could see him doing a Plinkett review of TFA in the style of his Plinkett review of Star Trek '09. They're pretty similar movies and probably appealed to his sensibilities similarly.
As evidenced by the fact they got a sticky here less than a month ago amirite? Cry more you fucking homo.
This. That furry piece of degenerate trash is reddit incarnate with a streak of tumblr thrown in for good measure.
>gains all of his internet cred on taking down the prequel trilogy
>new movie comes out that is even worse than the prequels just in a different way.
>He liked it.
Lost all respect for him right there. Cancelled by patreon.
>Worse than the prequels
One day I'm going to round up all you faggots and systematically genocide you. Just want you to know that.
Watch his Q&As on his other channel.
He's a self-proclaimed furfaggot, huge SJW, absolutely hates big corporations and believes anyone who's against gay marriage doesn't deserve to earn an income.
>Giving out gold stars for effort when there wasn't actually any put forth by that fat pig Lucas
This is tumblr "Everyone deserves a participation trophy to save their feelings" bullshit and I'll take no part in it.
>even worse than the prequels just in a different way.
Being less original does not make TFA a worse movie than the prequels unless you have literal autism and no objective understanding of films
>But that's the worst thing a film can be. Better an interesting trainwreck than an artless recreation of an existing work.
Movies can also be boring trainwrecks anon, get off your fucking high horse about "originality".
A+ post for effort.
Have a gold star. Again, for effort.
>But that's the worst thing a film can be
The worst thing a film can be is boring and illogical to the point of not caring in the slightest about the characters or what happens to them
Originality is always a good thing but not a necessity nor the deciding factor in whether a film is good or not
>Movies can also be boring trainwrecks anon,
The continued fascination with the prequel trilogy a decade since it ended proves that they certainly weren't boring.
TFA is akin to a HD remaster of a video game with some alterations made to make it more palatable in more socially sensitive times.
im going to go make a movie about a literal pile of shit that sits on a train bench and has a conversation with caitlyn jenner about the importance of doing your taxes early
you better come to see it anon, its an attempt at being original which apparently gives it instant merit in your eyes
>In art, technical skill means literally nothing
People who say TFA was just a rehash of ANH miss the point of star wars
Star Wars is a character drama first and space battles second. The characters are always the most important part, and TFA provided 3 new main characters (not counting Poe because he wasn't in it much), all of which were new character archetypes for the star wars universe. It's undeniable that the overarching plot borrows from ANH, but the movie itself focuses on how the characters react to that rather than the events themselves, and the way the characters respond to the events is significantly different to ANH
so stop memespouting unless you can put up a critical argument
Well it's true, when photography came about there was an existential crisis in the art world, followed by people realising that any retard with 5 years (and the money) to spend at the french academy and infinite free time could paint masterpieces, so they rebelled against the concept.
That would have more merit as a cinematic work than a shot for shot remake of The Godfather with more feminism thrown in.
The prequels are bad movies, but they are less dispicable in their conception than Rehash Wars episode 7: We want to sell you your childhood.
Mike "I can't understand basic concepts in movies like who protagonists are even when the movie isn't that complex" Stoklasa.
Qui-Gon Jinn is the protagonist of The Phantom Menace, you imbecile.
>[the prequels] weren't boring
I wasn't even talking about the prequels but come on, this contrarianism shit has got to stop. You'd remember a rape for years after it happened but you'd still probably rather it didn't happen.
But most of Kylo's character development happened in the second half as did the lightsaber fight which was easily on par with the better end of the OT fights in terms of how the emotions of the characters come through while they fight
>You'd remember a rape for years after it happened but you'd still probably rather it didn't happen.
A brutal assault has more of an impact in terms of building character than a pat on the head.
Congratulations, you recognise that something is incredibly basic. But most people don't know that shit, because people on 4chan don't know much of anything usually (though /his/ has been okay to be fair)
kek nice post deletion and fuckup you mongoloid piece of shit.
>artless recreation of an existing work.
I never got how people pretend that TFA is like a shot for shot remake for ANH.
Do they share plot points? Yes.
But is there enough for it to be different? Fuck yes. Kylo Ren single handedly made me love this movie, and he is a completely new character (dont even mention EU faggots)
They react completely unrealistically and that's why it isn't good.
Finn is meant to be a soldier trained from birth yet he acts nothing like that. Sure he's against killing innocent people but there is zero reference to being a stormtrooper for life in the way he acts. He has no interesting mannerisms that actually reflect his "character"
Rey just knows how to do anything and everything, there's never an obstical he doesn't immediately know how to solve. She's never challenged and it's fucking boring knowing the only reason progress is halted on their journey is because she just decides to run away randomly.
Kylo is ok. However I'm not particularly interested in watching teenage angst yet again (already did all that with anakin). People on here say he's "unstable", "psychotic" and "unpredictable" but he isn't at all. He never randomly kills troopers or disobeys snoke. People say he different to Vader but really he's just the same, but more pathetic.
I would have prefer and genuine loon like Kruger from Elysium, someone legitimately Batshit crazy.
This is why Poe is like, he's the only character that is both realistic and likeable.
In what headcanon fanfiction land do you know how stormtroopers act when they're off duty?
Rey is the weakest character but she was still challenged by needing to let go of jakku where she was abandoned and waiting for her parents/carers to come back
Kylo is almost a polar opposite to anakin in terms of execution of the character.
>He never randomly kills troopers
Why would he kill his own soldiers? Destroying computers is enough to get the point across that he lacks self control, and emotionally unstable is more about how he loses his composure over the course of the movie as a result of being challenged by learning not only can rey use the force but she's got a better relationship with his own dad than he does - and not 'look at me I'm so unhinged I can kill whoever I want' joker type unstable
And the character drama fails.
Rey can't be stopped. If you don't feel like a character is ever in danger you can't connect.
Finn can't handle all the killing. Five minutes later he's doing all the killing.
Poe is just pointless.
The original cast is just shit on.
Leia doesn't improve her position or her knowledge of the force in 30 years.
Han goes back to being a smuggler. Character growth reset.
Luke runs and hides like a little bitch because he couldn't handle what happened. Leaves everyone else to clean up his mess.
Finn is supposed to be a brainwashed child soldier apparently, but after his first day out killing he decides he's had enough and manages to spring a valuable prisoner with no plan. How absurdly fortunate for him.
It's never explained what the fuck Rey's waiting for on Not-Tatooine. Instead of establishing some kind of history and building the character, they just tease some bullshit that they're saving for an M. Night Shymalan twist in the next movie. How exciting.
Kylo spends the whole movie getting upstaged by Rey and pouting like a baby. He's a joke. All those gormless 20-something military officers being incompetent and delivering bad news, and Ren is so impotent he doesn't even take his frustration out on them like the guy he's supposed to want to emulate.
I just think it's great that /tv/ sucked this guy's dick before TFW, waited anxiously for him to shit on it then were left utterly dissapointed when he actually.
Fuck RLM, never cared for them. But I'm beyond happy they BTFO the contrarian cancer that is the majority of this board
>77 posts and 7 image replies in a thread about Episode 7 on Page 7
This can't be a coincidence.
This has to be a sign from the Virgin Jesus or something.
RLM are the living embodiment of the smug, detached Gen-X ethos.
I'd venture to guess none of them has felt a single sincere conviction about anything since childhood. They exist as polyps upon the colon of culture, satiating themselves on the perceived failures of others (i.e. "The Man") while adding nothing new to the discourse aside from ironic complaint.
They're a group of insecure, lost, rapidly aging burnouts who silently believe they could do a better job of making films than the professionals in the industry. Yet they lack the ambition and ability to actually enter the very industry they're obsessed with. They choose instead to fuck around and make student film piss-takes well into middle age.
They are awful, awful people. I've met thousands just like them, and the last thing we need is for these people to gain any attention for their navel gazing.
Please, /tv/, do not aspire to become anything like these people. Theirs is a lonely and pathetic road leading to depression and a life devoid of real purpose.
I hope they disappear and their disaffected followers stop subsidizing their lifestyle. Perhaps that would force them to do something productive with themselves.
>it was great, it was everything I wanted and more
yfw this boring shit appears in every RLM thread
What's that? You have an intelligent, well thought out, spot-on refutation of that comment? Oh? No, you don't. That's right, it's air tight.
Air. Fucking. Tight.
But that's the thing: Mike always seems to think that a cohesive plot and a well structurednmarrative are key, and he love both JJ flicks, Star Trek and Star Wars which don't have either.
He's gone too soft this last year and his pleb tastes are too obvious now. I think he's doing it because space cop is about to come out and he don't want his plebbit fans to come out too hard on him for how awful it'll be.
He had no choice but to say he likes it after all the crap he talked about the prequels. This is the movie he said he wanted, too bad that the things we think we want are usually complete crap.
>The worst thing a film can be is boring and illogical to the point of not caring in the slightest about the characters or what happens to them
You just described The Force Awakens
Can someone explain to me how Finn even has a sense of good and evil when he was taken as a child and then brought up within the Empire?
That shit doesn't make any fucking sense and it pisses me off
You're allowed to do whatever you want. But if I see a movie aimed at kids that turns out to be good, I feel pleasantly surprised. If I see a movie aimed at kids that sucks, I shrug and move on with my life.
It's not a kids movie though. The audiences reflect that.
It was supposed to appeal to all ages. "It's a kids movie!" is just a poor defence for a bad film making. Lucas used the same excuse for the prequels that he crammed full of politics and trade disputes.
>Mike Stoklasa, Mr Plinkett,
Way to confuse an actor / writer with his cartoonish fictional character
>it was everything he hoped it would be.
I don't think it says much if his hopes were very low. Didn't he said he just hope for merely a competent movie this time and it delivered that?
What part of it was a kids movie?
What percentage of the audience were kids?
What makes you think its a kids movie? The fact its an adventure movie? Adults dont enjoy adventure movies? Adults that watched Star Wars 1-3 and 4-6 don't enjoy Star Wars?
You're fuckingg dumb
Why did Finn who had been raised in a culture that celebrated war suddenly decide that was 'wrong'
Why did Poe trust Finn to not be a spy for the First Order
Why did the girl Jedi have mad Jedi skills far beyond any other Jedi has ever had despite having training (Anakin was off the charts and she was stronger than him in battle)
Why did Chewbacca become younger looking
Haha you fucking loser. You can't understand an overly simplistic popcorn movie and then get easily butthurt when someone points out that you can't understand an overly simplistic popcorn movie.
somebody point this guy towards the news clip of people leaving the theaters after seeing phantom menace and raving about how good it was. reviews were overwhelmingly positive. roger ebert gave it 3.5/4 stars (mainstream pleb hurr durr)
the fact is nobody DIDN'T like phantom menace the day after it came out. nobody. it took a little bit for some mixed reviews to trickle out, exactly like what is happening with TFA now.
the prequels are as boring as watching paint dry. the continued fascination revolves around how they turned out so awful and Lucas's incompetence and greed.
we're not still mulling over those brilliant senate scenes, we're mulling over the making of documentaries that show off lucas's simpleton antics and mewling court of sycophants. those are 100x more entertaining than anything in the movies
then, pray tell me, what was his "hero's journey?" what was his character arc? what was his development throughout the movie?
>teaches him about the force
>sets him up with the Jedi
Yeah, Qui Gon was the movie's McGuffin, not the protagonist bro
>is this real or just because of that cool cat video?
That picture of him grimacing (the one that's not in this thread)? Reverse image search it to see the uncropped picture. I wish I'd saved it.
>It's OK for movie makers to be sloppy as shit
>It's just fun
>Like Mary Sue
But this is a legitimate reason not to like a character, even more so a main protagonist
How could you actually enjoy these though.
>so what did you think of this movie Jay?
>It was really really good, what did you think of it Mike?
>It was alright but it had some flaws.
>How could you actually enjoy these though
you fucking missed the entire point
> taste is objective
no you fucking retard it is not and this is children's entertainment you're whining about
I wouldn't watch this movie if you paid me to. Your /v/ tier rhetoric is a sign you might want to work on growing up a bit.
> but it's shiiiiiiiiiiit
We're all grateful for your opinion
>followed by people realising that any retard with 5 years (and the money) to spend at the french academy and infinite free time could paint masterpieces, so they rebelled against the concept.
>Implying Deviantfart users can become good if they just had money and went to the "right" school.
Yeah, you're fucking retarded. It takes dedicated practice, actual skill, and many years of practice to be able to master an artform. It isn't fucking easy. Photography, when it first came out, wasn't art. It was just a hot new invention. It was when people started to use it in inventive ways, and use it for something other than boring pictures of newly weds, that it began to become an art form.
I cancelled my patreon, couldn't even be bothered to sit through their review. Not angry or anything just made me wonder why people whose livelihood is based on ripping mostly fairly on the prequels are totally fine with the massive logic failures in the first ten minutes of TFA which was all I could be bothered to watch.
A soldier raised from birth without even a name suddenly feels bad about killing because a comrade dies but a minute later can mow down dozens of his other comrades. That would have received a half hour of him panning it in a stupid voice if it was in the prequels.
Jay was asshurt that fans recorded the previous streams of all that amazing high-quality RLM content like Feeding Frenzy, Pork Pork in Space, and videos of Rich sitting on a couch saying "I have AIIIIIDS!"
> tfw I always say the same about TFA
> what would I do if I admitted it was drivel?
> throw away all my Starwars™ merchandise and admit that starwars is done?
