Star Wars is a character drama first and space battles second. The characters are always the most important part, and TFA provided 3 new main characters (not counting Poe because he wasn't in it much), all of which were new character archetypes for the star wars universe. It's undeniable that the overarching plot borrows from ANH, but the movie itself focuses on how the characters react to that rather than the events themselves, and the way the characters respond to the events is significantly different to ANH

I cancelled my patreon, couldn't even be bothered to sit through their review. Not angry or anything just made me wonder why people whose livelihood is based on ripping mostly fairly on the prequels are totally fine with the massive logic failures in the first ten minutes of TFA which was all I could be bothered to watch.

A soldier raised from birth without even a name suddenly feels bad about killing because a comrade dies but a minute later can mow down dozens of his other comrades. That would have received a half hour of him panning it in a stupid voice if it was in the prequels.
