Red Dwarf thread? Red Dward thread.
Best episode? Probably Psirens for me
>Psirens for me
Every episode in series 6 is a 10/10. Saying that, I love Dimension Jump from series 4. Every episode in S4 is a 10/10 too.
Red Dwarf has actually spoiled me for any other sitcom. I just can't get into sitcoms where the characters actually like each other or consider each other friends.
In Red Dwarf all the characters at their best, tolerate one another mainly because Rimmer draws all their ire. Sitcoms do it more nowadays I think, but I feel like Red Dwarf's a pretty early example of this.
Like, I don't ever remember an episode of Red Dwarf where they all sit down and talk about how they actually do care for one another, it's all pretty much one big marriage of convenience.
Have you read Infinity Welcomes Careful Drivers? It opens with Rimmer attempting to hire a prostitute iirc, which I was uncomfortable with.
>Tfw you related to Lister when you were young but as the years progressed you found more and more of yourself in Rimmer
>Tfw been to watch Craig Charles DJ
>tfw he's pretty good
>Only this morning you referred to me as a cancerous polyp on the anus of humanity.
He's a really good beat poet too, he would often end episodes of Robot Wars with a bit of improv poetry, and I met him at a convention once and he did a little bit of poetry/standup and he was really funny
One thing I noticed is that series 7 really laid on "the feels" very quickly, with Kryten feeling left out and his brother turning up, Rimmer leaving and Kochanski appearing.
Obviously it wasn't going to be the same when literally half of your writing staff leave, but I think 7 and 8 as well as the newer series were worthy additions to the show
Ed Bye truly is a fantastic director, you should watch the behind the scenes documentaries for all the series
Doug Naylor's direction on Back To Earth was pretty great too, but he stopped being as ambitious for series 10
Yeah season 7 definitely had a lot more feeling. I'm just rewatching it now
>Episode 1 has emotional part with JFK where he sees what he became and assassinates himself
>Episode 2 has the Rimmer leaving stuff
>Episode 3 has Lister looking at his past and when he was abandoned as a kid
I've never seen one before, no one has. But I'm guessing it's a white hole.
Oh yeah the JFK episode is definitely one of the best episodes of anything desu
The ending is a real tear jerker
It blew my mind when Craig Charles said something about Red Dwarf being lead by two black guys (might have been a comment on why the bbc refused to renew it) because it NEVER crossed my mind
I just realised if Red Dwarf was made now, /tv/ would shit on it for being shitty diversity
>OH LOOK FUNNY, GOOD GUY MAIN CHARACTER WHO GETS ALL THE WOMEN IS BLACK
>THE ONLY WHITE GUY ON THE CREW IS A COWARDLY BETA
And a white droid who is totally subservient and must obey the black male. the white race is dead, and a black guy must carry humanity on, where he finds a white woman to impregnate
