So I go to film school and i'm working on a short film right now. My movie is going to be about what it's like living with ADHD, but not like a documentary, explaining what ADHD is; but rather a visual presentation of what ADHD it feels like to have ADHD.
I'm a bit stuck in the development of the short; so does anyone have any ideas about how to pull this idea off?
Give me your best ideas for how to visually represent ADHD to an audience!
Just do a video of you flipping between five different tabs, refreshing this thread every two minutes, scrolling through your facebook feed between updates.
Average "ADD" person's experience.
I don't know ADHD is like so this might be an awful idea but there's this Scene in the Weatherman where Nicholas Cage is having this crazy stream of conscience thought and he just never sticks on one thing before it leads to something else. If you could do that visually, like images connected by appearance or function and concept and cycle between those in relation to what's going on around character. That might be cool if ou can make since of it.
ADHD is basically about how parenting has gone down the shitter.
hit your little rotten shitstains a little bit and maybe they will stop whining about everything
literally anyone that posts on /r9k/ needs a good fucking smack to the face
>you guys are usually creative
anyone "creative" left after the waifucaust
agreed but it's also a product of our insane surroundings
we have no evolved to understand the tech/media inundation of the modern world, it fucks our brains up
>inb4 le 80s babby
but I'm glad I had some...less connected years to form, didnt get AIM til college etc, i might turn out a retard too if I was handed an iPad overtime i murmered as an infant
>ADHD is basically about how parenting has gone down the shitter.
Please extrapolate. The rest of your post probably attempted to extrapolate on this sentence, but I'm just not connecting the dots.
Best visual representation of the mind I can think of is a browser that gives you a random pop-up every 10 seconds while making the page you are looking out of focus.
Best way to put this into a movie would be making the world out to focus with the exception of a tiny detail like a spider on a wall, a music that was very low but suddenly it the only thing you can hear or how suddenly something that someone is wearing catches your attention and reminds you of something.
Make sure to show this happening during different situations, on conversations, classrooms, games and so on.
It'll be hard to show what it happens when a very unrelated subject just pops-up on your mind for no reason tho.
>This upcoming generation is the smartest yet
idiot millennials i tell ya what
Have ADHD, this is good.
I have trouble focusing--I'd have a shot of somebody talking to you, but the center of the screen is blocked by a square of a random ass sequence of images that connect, tangentially. Whatever the speaker is saying can drift in once in awhile, but not well enough to hear. Until a line like "hey, are you listening?" Cut the square and have the speaker's mildly annoyed face fill the whole frame.
Of course it's a good idea, this site is ADHD central of the internet. I just fucking hope when I start taking ritalin I won't turn into modern day Fraser.
Just as in there are more distractions now a days? It's difficult to retain attention on one particular subject for an extended period of time because there are so many things we could be focusing on?
It worsens the effects of ADHD, when there's more noise, when there's more visual pollution, when you are more stressed and have more problems on your mind, all of that makes it harder for someone with ADHD to focus on something.
There's also the fact that currently it's way easier to get addicted to something, which is worse for those with lower dopamine receptors.
there is no such fucking thing as ADHD IT IS A MADE UP FUCKING DISEASE
LEARN A LITTLE BIT OF FUCKING DISCIPLINE YOU FUCKING MONGRELS
you can focus on a person talking? its not because you have a fucking disorder its because you aRE A ROTTEN FUCKING HUMAN BEING
i was "disagnosed" with ADHD when i was ten. took ritalin for two years before i realized it turned me into a fucking zombie devoid of any emotion of personality
i'm in my 20's now and grew the fuck up. stopped taking that shit or listen to any braindead moron that can'y discipline their kids properly
The character lives in a world where colors are a lot more saturated and words on signs etc. aren't as clear unless he zooms in on them. When they focus on one thing, everything else goes kind of blurry, and they never stay focused on that thing for very long, as their attention jumps around the whole movie.
gosh i wonder who wrote that article
any more millennial pandering websites youd like to link me to, child?
btw i'm fucking your mom, she's a whore.
So the different reaction that some people have to ritalin is just invented. The fact that those same people have a smaller quantity of dopamine receptors is also invented.
And you have studies to back that up, right?
Yeah. I was a teen travel camp counselor for rich jewish kids. We took amazing trips. Going through the American west in a bus the kids demanded shit flicks be on the tvs in front of their faces, constantly, rolling their eyes as I tried to point out the Rockies, Grand Tetons, etc. This is anecdotal obviously, and a decade ago now. But my point is the post "MTV" generation, weaned on constant stimulation is ill at ease w/o a screen in their face. I'm not completely above it either. Quiet contemplation, if only for a minute is much harder than giving into distraction. A great junk of the world's recorded music at your fingertips, virtual "friends" beaming from multiple devices, the entirety of the world's knowledge right here...
>My movie is going to be about what it's like living with ADHD
People won't laugh directly at your movie, but know that once they leave they'll always look at you as a gigantic pussy.
>waaaah things are hard
Seriously grow the fuck up.
>he's still going to be on 4chan 20 years from now
>he's visiting /r9k/ 20 years from now
>he thinks theres a magic day where you suddenly decide to stop doing certain things
are you retarded?
I think its probably more of a social anxiety thing. Same reason why the teens of previous generations would smoke cigs. To look busy instead of just sitting/standing there being inert or alone or in awkward moments of silence.
Being an adult with ADHD sucks dick.
>I literally can't put my fucking keys down while I do something-before forgetting where in the fuck I JUST put my keys.
>Oh wait, I also forgot my belt, better get that. Yeah this works. Or maybe it doesn't look too good? Another?
>FUCK WHERE ARE MY KEYS NOW? I'm going to be late. Oh goddammit, I forgot to give the cat/dog food.
>Wait, is that meeting at 8 or 9?
>I need to get milk later.
>Forget where you put keys one last time before you leave, only to realize that you've forgotten your wallet.
I know for a fact once I'm done with graduate school my life will be far too busy for this fucking place.
If your responsibilities are the same in 20 years as they are now you should kill yourself for being a waste of space.
>I know for a fact once I'm done with graduate school my life will be far too busy for this fucking place.
>He thinks he can leave just like that
See you in a few years anon whether you like it or not.
Here's a good visual representation of ADD.
>can't pay attention what I'm studying
>decide to play games
>can't pay attention to the game I'm playing
>change game 300 times
>eventually decide to fap
>can't pay attention to what I'm fapping to
>literally everything from games to fapping is now boring and I can only focus on new things and for a short while
>"lel anon you just need more discipline"
>I have other responsibilities
>I have other priorities
>lol nah fuck that post on 4chan
maybe you simply a fucking idiot?
go read a fucking book
join the army you fucking loser.
thats what weve been doing for the past 200 years with you fucking idiots
now you all need "special help" and medication
makes me fucking sick and is why i'll never have kids
If only it was so easy broseph. I've seen so many docs they all say it's the same thing. I didn't make up my fucking diagnosis, I literally just got diagnosed with it IN my adult-hood.
But, that won't start you, Mr Arm-chair Psychologist now will it?
>All my grading is done
>Research is on hold until Spring term
>literally fuck all to do
My responsibilities are nil at the moment. And once I'm done with this fucking program I'll be too busy for here.
See how that works?
Now lets look at you:
>already stated he'll be here in 20 years AND posting on /r9k/
Loser. With a capital L.
Actually idiots like me would become marginals to the society, likely drug addicts, hobos, and others who are considered low tier scum. All you are saying is to someone to use his weakest point, and try yet again the same thing expecting a different result. What was Einstein definition of insanity again?
And obviously you are a fucking fisherman baiting for some (you)s since I don't see any article to any research to back what you're saying.
>Now lets look at you
>/tv/ is one person
See you soon.
no, because i was diagnosed with it and its complete bullshit.
read a book. work out more. maybe you are just fucking stupid or an asshole. stop pretending there is something wrong with your head. its a made up disease so that corps can control us with their fucking drugs
lol get a load of this millennial faggot
congrats on admitting you are a faggot that would rather take drugs to turn himself into a zombie rather than concentrating on something for more than a second you brain dead faggot
that's a kinda snowflake-y representation, trying to imply ADHD ridden kids are inherently creative, which is not true, you lose focus to whatever bullshit occupies your mind. it's almost accurate, though
shitposting on /tv/ is a hobby of mine, you are all fucking idiots.
I come from a better time
nice to see someone redpilled themselves.
Maybe ADHD is real, but I don't buy that fucking almost EVERYONE has it. Too many fucking shit lords who blame their lack of self control on adhd, pisses me off.
>using the word shitlord unironically
I was diagnosed at 22, been taking ritalin for a while now and it is absolutely amazing.
It has improved every area of my life, I can be in social situations acting competently for multiple hours. I can study and be completely focused on the material, I am no longer tired throughout the day even with full nights sleep.
All my life I have been a daydreamer, and the overthinking has affected me in many negative ways. Ritalin doesnt turn me into a zombie, it simply allows me to do one thing at a time, and it is amazing.
So you want to make a video about the visual representation of ADHD? First, is this a "video art" class? If so, Just film literally anything and speed up the footage. If not, you need inspiration.
Go on YouTube, and look up Dmitry Poot. Just watch literally of his one minute videos. That's ADHD.
The only things that could hold my attention were high intensity activities or things I really enjoyed.
Everyone can focus if they are enjoying something, I dont care how bad your ADHD is if you are fuckign a bitch you can pay attention.
The problem lies with how easily the minor task or uninteresting things get away from you. You can still attempt to buckle down and focus but you are simply ineffective compared to being on drugs.
I never had a problem sitting still, I have lived my whole life without being medicated and I will not go back.
Don't bother trying to explain to the retards who think ADD doesn't exist and just a scam to sell pills. I was prescribed Adderall as a senior in high school and it changed my life, before it I was a shy, spaced out and awkward weird kid. After taking it I was confident and got a girlfriend and lots of friends, because "normal" for the first time in my life.
Sadly, tolerance builds up after a couple years and I'm back to being a socially awkward aspie now.
you may also be slightly depressed.
ADHD is somewhat a self fulfilling prophecy and the internet really feeds and brings it to the surface.
Ask yourself if there is things you should be able to do, or want to do that are being inhibited by your ability to focus on them?
I am of the opinion that growing up we constantly are working to make up for our brains disorder and eventually it just gets too exhausting and that is where medication comes in
>The problem lies with how easily the minor task or uninteresting things get away from you.
paying attention is HAAAAARRDDDDDD
I weep for this fucking country
This is really unfortunate, is there nothing you can do? no other drug that can work or different dose?
My doctor assured me there was many alternatives if one thing stopped working very well
Just do a 1st person shoot of a short amount of time from the perspective of a person with ADHD. Make sure to have the focus switch from subject to subject, project to project, in a natural way. Try to make the viewer not even realize how far off topic the main character is until the end when they are somehow reminded of their original task.
Not that guy, but imagine talking to someone, and in the middle of them saying something to you your brain takes off on some other line of thought. You do not even realize you are thinking about something else until the line of thought reaches some arbitrary conclusion or some strong stimulus from the outside world brings you back to the present.
Then you have to somehow manage with the last 5 seconds of the person talking are lost to you.
How can a parent teach a childs brain not to do that?
>I am of the opinion that growing up we constantly are working to make up for our brains disorder and eventually it just gets too exhausting and that is where medication comes in
Jesus Christ that makes so much sense. Growing up I always had to read everything 4 times or more to remember them, my only luck was that I was always able to read really fast and I loved the subjects I was studying.
