Also way better guide on the downloads.
I have SW DeEd 2.5, ESB DeEd 2.0 and RotJ DeEd 2.0 Workprint.
I also have team_negative1's workprint 0 and workprint 1 (Grindhouse) of their 35mm scans. Currently downloading their workprint 2, despite they're about to release their third workprint in a few weeks.
Sorry mate, but I prefer the official canon versions of the films.
They are scanning theatrical prints used back in 1977, 1980 and 1983. They are therefore the full, Original Unaltered Trilogy, whereas Harmy's versions are reconstructions (and they are still spotting SE changes as to today. In fact, I think I have spotted a few changes that I have never seen anybody else talk about).
The disadvantage is that, overall, theatrical prints could never deliver the same quality as a professional scan of the negatives. But the official digital scans are so terrible, there are many parts a theatrical print delivers more quality.
They're grainier than Harmy's, because theatrical prints are nth generation copies, wheread Harmy's DeEd use the Blurays as a base.
If you look at the "Star Wars preservations" subforums of originaltrilogy.com, there are a few threads dedicated to team -1's scans. In the ESB thread they have recently posted a preview of one of the reels they will use for Workprint 3, and the link will expire in like 4 days. That preview is in 720p only, and it uses a low bitrate, but it still gives you an idea of how the whole movie will look.
I'll help you step by step familia.
For the torrent client, use UTorrent, it's may be oversued but use it.
Whn downloadint the torrent from the site drag it to the prgram and the download will start.
Once it ends it will be ready to be played in VLC.
>These already come with subtitles but are filled with usless audio tracks. Same quality and audio.
That makes no sense.
And frankly if you're archiving these, it's good to have the "useless" audio tracks. I actually prefer the Laserdisc mixes to the theatrical ones. I can barely make out the dialogue in a lot of the theatrical tracks, both stereo and six track.
Believe it or not, the Laserdisc audio is of higher fidelity than the 2006 Bonus disc, because they had to compress the file in order to fit the Lego Star Wars demo. No, I did not make that up.
>sign up for an OT.com account
>never post once
>message some user
>"Hey, can I get a MySpleen invite?"
>"Sure, here you go."
It's definitely a good tracker though. I think it's private more due to its niche nature than the usual private tracker elitism.
There were three audio mixes in '77, Stereo, 6 Track, and Mono. Mono came later, which is why Lucas added in a whole sleiu of audio changes. The Laserdisc mix isn't exactly the same as the original 5.1 mix, but another OT.com user has modified it for the DEd to make it so.
C-3PO's tractor beam line is heard. This line was originally only present in the mono sound mix. It was added to the home video mix when it was digitally remastered in 1985. When a new sound mix was created for the THX release in 1993, this line was inexplicably left out. It did return once again for the Special Edition.
"The tractor beam is coupled to the main reactor in seven locations. A power loss at one of the terminals will allow the ship to leave."
I know you're memeing but Hayden being there makes zero sense in any context
>implies Anakin Skywalker died as a young man and didn't return to save his son
>Luke had no idea what his father looked like as a young man so he wouldn't know who that is
it's retarded and so are you for defending it
The tractor beam line was only present in the mono mix, and once again added for the SE. The 5.1 track is default for the DEd, but the Mono mix is also on there.
I don't know why i didnt put that in the first post.
ROTJ 2.0 FUCKING WHEN LADS?
Don't use something retarded like utorrent. Use deluge or qbitorrent if you're new and on Windows.
You wont get a DMCA request/letter on a good private tracker, no.
The Millennium Falcon is closer to the Star Destroyer it was attached to in the OUT, at least in the shot when the Falcon leaves the command bridge. The garbage that the Star Destroyer evacuates also has completely different compositions (those... blocks or whatever they areappear at different times and follow different paths.
There are multiple parts of the movie where the starfield is different between versions. I'n suspecting the starfield differs when they recompositioned the shots, and they they did not they left the original starfield.
One of the legs of the AT-AT that Luke destroys has a different composition in the shot where Luke is using his harpoon. In the OUT Luke is hidden by the leg several more frames in that shot.
The shot whee the movie switch from Luke in Dagobah to the Falcon near Cloud City has the Falcon in a completely different position on screen. We also see the same clouds in different positions in the SE.
Most of the rest of the shots of the Falcon and those recognition ships following the Falcon to Cloud City features different opacities and positions and paths in the OUT.
I suspect some of the shots of the Falcon having rescued Luke yet still haven't left Bespin has completely different compositions too.
As long as you're not actually distributing that shit, you'll get nothing or at the VERY worst a warning from your service provider (never happened to me, but I rarely torrent). Don't know if seeding makes things worse, though.
Just do what I did:
>buy the 2006 DVDs
>be disappointed with the GOUT
>secretly hope Lucasfilm/Disney/whoever tracks you down
>"This is an illegal, unauthorized copy of an unfinished version of the film."
>"But I own the GOUT!"
>go to jail anyway
>become internet folk hero
>resulting backlash results in your release, an apology, an invite to future Star Wars premieres, and Disney's decision to release the OT theatrical versions on Blu-ray
>I wish there was the technology to do a "Make your own Star Wars!"
>And let you choose the movie and the changes you want in.
There literally is anon, it's called seamless branching
The Blu-ray would have all the variants of the changed scenes and it would play what you wanted depending on what you choose in the menu
>literally, never existed
Yeah he was just the guy under the mask the whole time
You can't have it all, I assume. I want the Special Edition ending music of Return of the Jedi with Hayden as Anakin's ghost, but none of the celebration CGI from other planets. That all overlaps, it'd be a complete custom edit.
You aren't senpai.
You aren't getting tricked either
Harmy's verson of the Greedo scene was featured in Conan's show. Youtube it if you don't believe me.
And Harmy himself has been sent raw small clips of the raw masters Lucasfilm and Lowry used later for their 2004 master (after color butchering the raw footage). Harmy himself posted a still photo of Sheev in the RotJ DeEd thread. That frame is funny because you can see they added artificial grain to alliviate the terrible job Lowry did. The added grain can even be seen in the black bars of the frame.
Everybody at Lucasfilm knows about Harmy's DeEd. They just don't care.
wew lad do you know how far the final is from release? I accidentally let my Myspleen account expire and I couldn't be bothered PMing the admin just for that one thing.
Oh dude it's not a problem to get, It'll be uploaded on a few trackers I'm on as soon as it's finished I'd just rather wait for the finished 2.0 ya feel?
I've waited this long, I might as well hold out another couple of weeks
A station master copy of the Holiday Special was recently posted on Myspleen. It is unavailable anywhere.
You can know it's a master copy because of its video and audio quality and complete lack of commercials.
Is the second best version of the Holiday Specil that exists on this planet, video quality wise. Only the negatives thenselves are of bigger quality.
People put too much blame on the crew that did the 2004 remasters. It wasn't their fault, it was Lucas's because he told them how he wanted them to be, and the people who worked on it had no say because he was George Lucas.
Myspleen is fucking impressive. They're like the HDBits of random obscure shit. Like, where would someone even get that?
>he knows nothing about video
>he knows nothing about scaling
>he knows nothing about encoding
>he hasn't read the notes
I always forget ho tech illiterat /tv/ is, even when it comes to shit like this. It's fucking depressing.
I keep finding shit on there I didn't think I'd want, but then I get addicted to. Fan edits to make The Lord of the Rings more like the books, dubs of Daria that add the original music back in, episodes of Batman: The Animated Series recorded on VHS with the original commercials included.
As if Star Wars and MST3K didn't eat up enough of my life.
It was their fault, and Lucasfilm's as well.
They did a restoration of the trilogy around 1994-95. Then they did a 2K digital scan of the original negatives and all the special effects compositions, and created a new digital negative that was color corrected (as you cannot color correct a film negative), made some changes for the 1997 SE, and printed on a new film.
Then around 2004 they re-scanned the 1997 master, using now outdated technology and in 1080p, and used the new digital master for even more changes, and they made the DVDs and BDs from that master. Said master was butcheed in the color department, and DVNR'd so much they latter readded grain.
The BD are so terrible theatrical prints features more resolution and details in several parts. I remember watching a still image of the shot where Han and co. are speaking with Lando (before the camera switches to Chewbacca while Lando stsrts his "I have made a deal with the Empire...". Han was mouthles in the BD. He was not in an upscaled and cleaned GOUT and in team -1's scans.
I am downloading the Daria series. Haven't watched it, hope it's great.
I'm impressed with stuff like:
-1080p encode of a theatrical 35mm print of Matrix and Jurassic Park
-1080p encode of a Technicolor 16mm print if Song of the South
-1080p B&W encode of a faded print of theatrical THX-1138 (they are working on color restoration)
-Several fanedits of popular movies (prequel SW, Indy 4, etc)
I have heard AMPS has even more stuff such as scans of Technicolor prints of Disney movies. Or a 1080p encode of Technicolor 35mm of Song of the South. Unavailable on Myspleen though.
>It was their fault
How the hell is it their fault? They're doing their fucking jobs. If they disobeyed what they were instructed to do, they'd have no jobs, and wouldn't work again in the entertainment industry because it's fucking George Lucas.
I'm not denying that the 2004 were terrible, but George Lucas was the one in controls. One of the guys who worked on it posts at Stevehoffman's forum, and he's stated that having worked on the 2004 release, he learnt that it would actually be easy for them to restore the original version because all the pieces are there. It's just up to whoever is in control to give them the go ahead to do it.
>What is there to see? I already downloaded the original Despecialized tar Wars 2.5 in 1080p directly from Harmy instructions like a year ago.
Harmys editions were NEVER released in 1080p for good reason.
You are watching an upscale of an upscale. Post screen/mediainfo I want to laugh at you.
It's not perfect, though. Lots of scratches and mosquito noises, and terrible audio quality from a BBC broadcast of around 10 years ago. But it's better than absolutely nothing.
There's an unofficial 720p reencode on Demonoid. I don't know if it has seeders.
>Download it from JDownloader, torrent!
>Fuck Harmy, Praise Harmy.
>720p kek xD
FOX just give Disney the rights to the film so we can have the OT released already and end this destructive conflict.
The 3.x series will be in 1080p as they will be completely GOUT-free. The workprint for RotJ DeEd 2.0 is nearly GOUT-free, but Harmy is still waiting for team -1's full releases.
He's also being given private scans. It seems someone has made a 4k scan of a theatrical print of RotJ and Harmy used it for Sebastian Shaw's eyebrows.
The one 6GB one is ROTJ you fucking retard.
The 17.8GB one you're talking about is ANH is 720p
wew it's real
DOWNLOADING RIGHT FUCKING NOW.
I dont understand how audio discrepancy makes that much of a difference.
I thought the final release of v2.5 had an MD5 so folks can match up from different torrent sites.
What's listed in this thread does not appear to match to what Harmy released.
literally downloading the one from the link on pastebin
I downloaded it some weeks ago, still haven't seen it. It's also low in bitrate, the movie is between 4-5 GB in size. And it's not that Technicolor 35mm scan that is floating on the internet.
oh, so its a transcode.
well fuck that. what's the point of that post then? I thought it made Harmys shit just easier to download.
I fucking wish that PTP just allowed it on their site. Out of a fucking illegal torrent site they sure to have too many standards.
There's literally no difference. It's the exact same video quality and audio quality. But it's a lighter file. Don't listen to him!
Why the fuck would he want to see the movie in fucking Chinese?
How fucking nice! Good feeling that I'm not in this cocksucking private tracker business, but then all these things that are so away from me, are in places like these. Fucking hell, I just would like a jolly heavenly place with loads of known and unknown shit.
Reminder: Don't waste a blu-ray disc on the ROTJ workprint, idiots. Finalized v2.0 is imminent!
Are you retarded:
Harmy's ANH original:
Nominal bit rate : 13.5 Mbps
Maximum bit rate : 40.0 Mbps
Your shit trancode edition:
MPEG-4 AVC Video 6497 kbps 720p / 23,976 fps / 16:9 / High Profile 4.1
The bitrate is more then halved and it looks like ass.
For the same reason there are Technicolor prints of Star Wars 77' and aren't on the internet. They just don't want to release them.
Mike Verta's "Star Wars Legacy" is an exception, he would love to release it but he was told by friends at Lucasfilm the company would sue him. A shame, he did a fuckingtastic 4k restoration of SW that involve using at least 2-3 prints for each frame, and manually reconstructing every single frame. Even the original negative film grain and dirtiness. Look his videos on Vimeo or his thread at OT.com It's impressive, the guy cleaned all his print with laser and extracted absolutely all color information the prints had.
But don't worry! There are a few OT.com user (I think poita is the main guy behind) that are canning a Technicolor print of SW and will release them (probably on Myspleen through). Poita posted a few frames of that print on the forums it looked fucking beautiful.
anybody have an invite to myspleen. Only other private tracker i use is XWT, a wrestling tracker. Most people want two reps.
Are there any major changes to the new versions of ESB and RotJ? I've already got the original despecialized editions but I want to know if it's worth getting the new releases
Also two things that bothered me immensely about Harmy's cuts:
-In Empire he decided to reuse cancerface instead of Palpatine. Why? It's fucking retarded, there is absolutely nothing to be gained from putting the old Emperor hologram instead of the one that is actually the Emperor himself
-The RotJ ending that has that stupid Yub Nub song, it's so fucking bad I actually considered taking out my special editions VHS and ripping the ending from there and using it instead of the one in Harmy's cut
Also, would anyone be interested in
I also forgot to mention:
He spent 9-10 years doing the restoration
He was helped by many members of the crew who did the original special effects for the movie
He had a document of a few hundred pages only for the color of the shirts of the rebel soldiers at the beginning of the movie
He was very careful about how each single frame degrades (it seems frames with optical effects degrades in different ways)
He's pretty based.
Better colours, better quality, more despecialized shots.
This is a theatrical restoration of the trilogy, nlt your own version. Make your own semi-specialized editins, you wouldn't be the first one.
You clearly didn't follow the discussion that followed after Harmy informed everyone he was adding rounded corners to all frames for ESB DeEd 2.0 in order to make the project closer to the theatrical experience. Some OT.com members made some maths and found out Harmy only dropped like less than 0.001% of all pixels of the movie, and yet there was heated discussions about revisionism and further tampering.
Well because you guys are either blind or in denial, here, these are the VIDEO bitrates side by side.
AHAHAH oh god I just realised the Empire version in the OP is a fucking 3GB x265 transcode. Please just stop.
Quality control, retention and not getting anally raped by the MAFIIAA mostly. Most aren't sekrit though, they're just private. PassThePopcorn for example (that screenshot) is crazy easy to get in to right now.
>-1080p encode of a theatrical 35mm print of Matrix and Jurassic Park
>-1080p encode of a Technicolor 16mm print if Song of the South
>-1080p B&W encode of a faded print of theatrical THX-1138 (they are working on color restoration)
How are these not news?
All I want is to watch my racist Disney films and my dismal science-fiction films without CGI in reasonable quality. Why is a BitTorrent tracker making that possible, not the studios?
There's always one of you guys in every thread.
He was contacted by private museums for copies. And as I said, he was warned by friends working at Lucasfilm that the companynwas not happy.
Even if he never releases it, there's the chance his work could be used for an official release. And he has tons of info to give to Harmy and -1 and anybody else.
Let's be optimists.
I have followed the SNES emulation and the SW OT preservation scenes.
Companies just doesn't care. Too much work and money for some results less than 0.01% of people will care.
Since when has that stopped anyone?
I don't torrent enough to know how to get a decoder ring. If you want to help me out, I'd be much obliged, but it seems like private trackers force people to jump through unnecessary hoops.
I'd like a copy of Song of the South to show my nephews when they grow up.
This stuff really tickles my autism.
I am really fascinated by the quality, it is so impressive, I know they basically take pictures of the negatives but I'd like to know more about the actual process and don't really know where to look, can someone help me?
They don't make scans of the negatives. The negatives are at whatever location the studio preserves them.
They are only scanning multiple generation copies. A good bluray made from the original negatives would laugh at these scans. The Matrix one didn't look great, to be honest, however it didn't have the green tint added after the sequels were produced.
There are also some goodies through, like a high bitrate copy of the WOWOW version of Raiders of the Lost Ark, or a 1080p encode of a DCP version of Back to the Future. Both releases are in the 48-40 GB range.
Any myspleen folks here wanna let us in on that slick new master copy of the holiday special?
wheres the torrent for the laserdisc version of this version The THX edition.
they're the best ones though. sure its not HD but 480p laserdisc is fine. This is the only version where they finally fixed the matting issues.
I was so pissed the DVD version didn't use these editions.
Cheers, based anon.
I remember finding it fascinating how he structured each film to have three very distinct acts, so as to make them actually three episodes of a pulp serial. Meaning the OT was more like 9 episodes of a Flash Gordon like series.
And then he fucked that straight to hell with the PT having no structure at all.
Well, TFA seems to be a return to that at least.
And look who showed up in that thread..
I wonder where he got the idea from.
I am actually planning to see multiple versions of ESB (Harmy and team -1) at the same time. And in slowmo (something like 0.25 speed). Just to find as much changes as I can, so I can make comparisons and warn Harmy.
"Definitive" seems to suggest they cannot be improved. There's still plenty room for improvement. Check out Star Wars Legacy from Mike Verta.
>you will never get an invite to PTP or MySpleen
If you mean if team -1's scans has the original matte lines and garbage mattes around the compositions of the ships, then yes, since they're scanning theatrical prints used back in the day. They even have wrong colors or poor details unlike the cleaner SE recomps.
I'm on myspleen, but it never lets my client upload at all, only download.
I've downloaded like 400gb and uploaded nothing, yet it still lets me downloaded whatever I want.
Is that normal?
Well then just fucking do something about it you whiny chumps.
PTP currently recruits from what.cd, awesome-hd, baconBits, ScienceHD, AnimeBytes, HDBits.org, BroadcasTheNet, CinemaGeddon and probably others that I've forgotten.
It has never been easier to get in to. (Except maybe when it first started as open sign up).
Seriously /tv/ always whinges about muh sekrit club elitism but if you just joined the fucking things it wouldn't be a problem.
how about I show you my ration on
So many fucking hoops to jump through in order to make a fucking disk menu for this shit. WE ARE THERE SO MANY CONVERSIONS NEEDING TO BE DONE ON THIS SHIT? THERE NEEDS TO BE AN EASIER WAY.
qbittorrent has slowed down a ton for me in the last few months
This looks pretty good. After watching only the Laserdisc versions for the past 4 years its nice to see a sharp version.
For some reason every time I try to take a screenshot it comes out black
I have a myspleen account btw
dunno, when I switched from utorrent to qbit my dl speeds immediately became 3x faster, didn't even need many seeds
nowadays unless the torrent has like 200 seeds it takes me like a day to download stuff
I don't think you quite understand the point of what harmy is doing here
>hurr durr I'm fine with george doing violence to cinematic history!
Just watch the special editions then faggot
Did the original Return of the Jedi have the frog alien thing eating another alien outside of Jabba's Palace? The shot looked CGI.
Also Vader's eyebrows are blurry and vibrate.
Yes I got the workprint of jedi from an anon to finally finish out watching the old trilogy. The compositing is a little rough, like vasaline around a stop motion cel rough, but it's better then waiting years for 3.0
>The frog is in the theatrical cut, yes.
I wonder how they did it then, it didn't look like a puppet.
Interesting, glad to hear it.
Also, I'm not entirely sure what the Despecialized editions are. Correct if I'm wrong, but basically they can't get high quality versions of the originals because Lucas is hoarding them, so they take the special editions and splice them together with the shitty betamax rips so they can create a despecialized version, correct?
At first it was a reconstruction of the theatrical versions made by using upscaled, filtered, cleaned GOUT footage with HDTV recordings of the 2004 SE.
Then Harmy switched to BD and started using some 35mm elements.
Now he's about to only use 35mm elements and drop standard definition elements like the GOUT, so 3.x releases of Despecialized will be in 1080p, unlike the 1.0 and 2.x series which have always been stuck in 720p.
>>hurr durr I'm fine with george doing violence to cinematic history!
You completely misunderstand
As I was reading through the descriptions it was mostly under the impression that it was a restoration of the original movies removing all the retarded unnecessary shit Lucas added, while keeping some of the improvements like updated visual effects and the remastered ending for the SE of RotJ, not having to keep cancerface as the Emperor etc
But now it turns out it's just the original laserdisc cut of the movies in HD
Thank god for the semi specialized editions at least
No more floating eyebrows.
Original Jabba dance scene is much better quality.
Overall higher picture quality
Further color correction
Deeper contrast/ image not so washed out.
Worth it, to be honest but wait for the official v2.0. The workprint has a bunch of watermarks and shit.
I'm sure you could do a lot better. The point is that you are messing with someone's finished product. They never gave you the go ahead to make your shitty edits. You are on the same level as a petty thief.
ESB looks nice
