I didn't mind it that much, seeing John Simm in all those different outfits was neat. I find it much more jarring how the plot device of the week basically goes from elixir-of-life to global-brainwash-machine. How do you make such a large jump? In general, how do you go from rich guy who is seeking immortality to the return of the Time Lords? Nothing builds up on top of one another in that story, it's just random stuff happening without rhyme or reason.

I guess it depends on what you like, there's a lot of variety in the early seasons. The Daleks appear pretty frequently until season 5 and most of their stories are pretty good so that should be good news for you. My favorite of season 2 is probably The Romans, a fun comedy historical.
