Did people find this funny back in 1997?
i dont know i was born that year
Clearly
otherwise it wouldn't have made it through 3 seasons before potentially getting canceled until Bigger Longer and Uncut was released
>>64480756
it helps if youre still in middle school.
>>64481496
Fuck you, you're still an underage piece of garbage in my eyes.
We seriously need to raise the age restriction on this site to 21+.
Watching kids curse at each other and call each other jew was pretty fresh and funny back then
>>64482567
>chuckle at how silly this is
>see little kid talking like this for real few years later
what an annoying little shit
>>64482529
ya got em dude nice
>>64480756
Yes. A lot of people liked seeing kids talked like they did when they were children. Mixed in with the surrealism of the early seasons, before it became a satire, it was a fun show to watch. The animation was crude, but it felt inline with the humor of the show. No real surprise that teens and young adults dislike these early episodes. When I was that age I wouldn't have understood what was so great about Mary Tyler Moore or Fawlty Towers. I think it is more of a credit to the show that it has managed to make new episodes that still appeal so much to a new audience.
Yes, it was hilarious back in middle school.
I was 22 in 1997, and it was cool to get drunk of fKD or smoke some weed and watch.
ps fuck you reddit

Did people find this funny back in 2015?
>>64483551
Oh wow senpai, you're ass is old.
Just die
>>64483607
Maybe you should've been alive in 2015 you underage faggot.
>>64483607
>gif
kill yourself
south park was funniest in the first couple of seasons before each episode became a pop culture parody.
It was hilarious.
Kids being funny, edgy, etc. Scuzzlebutt with the Patrick Duffy leg still makes me laugh.
The Twitter generation doesn't like South Park pre-2008.
>>64483686
>there's a less there week old baby shitpostimg on /tv/
What a to!e to be alive
>>64480756
I was 7 when this came out and I thought it was one of the funniest things I'd ever seen. I loved it.
I remember being so pumped after seeing the Santa special they did earlier.
'Cow Days' is one of my favorite episodes from Season 2.
I know Matt and Trey hate earlier South Park, but I liked it when it was less aware of itself, less preachy, and less socially conscious.
>>64480756
>tfw was allowed to watch South Park as a teen but then when they made fun of Jesus or something in like 2002 my dad didn't allow me to watch it
same thing for Simpsons because of all the sex that there apparently was
>>64483868
I was 7 when Beavis and Butthead came out and holy shit did my parents hate it. Me and everyone I knew were talking like them for years.
>>64480756
The old seasons are still funny. Can't say the same about the past 10 seasons.
>>64483986
agreed
>>64480756
Yeah.
In 1997, there weren't a ton of cartoons out there that were cussing, especially not on television, so it was something different at the time. The show was smart enough to evolve into being more than just a show where cartoons cussed and to continue pushing the envelop.
The Simpsons had a similar start. They were racy because Bart said "damn" and did bad things, and that wasn't expected of a cartoon. Even the president called them out.

Unlike South Park, the Simpsons stopped pushing the envelop, though, and eventually that same president would appear on the Simpsons.
>>64480756
There are some crazy people outside /tv/ who actually believes there are funnier, more creative shows that the first nine seasons of The Simpsons.
Some of then are even among us. They're called redditors.
Edgy 15 year old me and my younger brother and cousins loved it. There wasn't anything else like it on TV at the time.
It's like how really old people talk about when they first saw the Simpsons when they were kids
>>64483953
Damien was a first season episode.
I heard Season 18 was good because it had an interconnected story and was generally one of the best in a while.
Five episodes in, I'm not feeling it. The satire is sometimes on-point, but the jokes aren't funny and there isn't really any heart. Plus the animation is awful (I get that this is the point and it makes production quick, but I wish they'd stuck with the paper cut-outs for the entire show).
Should I keep watching, or is it just not for me?
>>64480756
Yes, a headshop in my town sold bootleg VHS copies of episodes because the local cable co didn't carry comedy central.
>>64483607
Only the first 10 times.
>>64484143
Current episodes try to be violent and meta like Family Guy but they're too afraid to fully commit.
>>64483701
this.
tho there are some gems later on
>>64484328
That Santa's Little Helper dragon actually looks pretty rad.
>>64480756
ayy naww poor social justice crybaby did south park hurt your feelings?
>>64482529
age doesn't mean everything, as for yourself being a good example
South Park's first two seasons are essential comfycore.
>>64480756
I thought it was funny, but then again I was 11 turning 12 years old.
As new seasons came out I kept liking the show. I dropped off the show in my early 20s but that's just because I was too busy. Now I'm really digging this new season.
i was 11
it was the shit
me and all my friends loved it
>>64483686
kek
It was funny because they pushed the limits of what was allowed to be said/shown on television. Back then Simpsons was edgiest thing on tv.
>>64480756
If this wasn't the first episode of South Park you watched I don't know what to tell you. Maybe you're gay or something.
>>64486085
I think Season 2 and 3 are the best. Season 1 has too many unfunny abrupt fart jokes that kill the flow of the dialogue.
Ned losing his voice-box in Jakovasaurs is one of my favorite gags ever.
>tfw you were a kid and never realized the title South Park Bigger Longer and Uncut was a penis joke
>>64480756
I seldom watch it, but i do like it, used to love it as a kid.
>>64483966
If there's 2 cartoons i hate it's Beavis and Butthead and Ren and Stimpy
>>64481496
Me too.
These little shorts in the DVDs were great.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dTpDUm08QkQ
What's interesting is that the majority opinion of South Park is that it's still just farts and swearing and they kill Kenny every episode.
Like, they'd claim they know/like South Park, then you show them Butters and they'd have no clue who he is.
>>64486810
>hating Beavis & Butt-Head
I could understand R&S because there's so much filler in the episodes but fuck off B&B is a treasure.
>>64486744
That wasn't the first episode though...
>>64486866
Every time they laugh i get the urge to change the channel
>>64480756
this changed our lives bro, the bomb was bigger longer uncut in 1999 omg those times were epic, internet was so primitive
It was on late at night so I did not even know about it before I saw people at school wearing the first run of south park t-shirts.
this was pre-internet era.
>>64486744
Not the first episode I saw but it was the first I had on VHS, along with Tom's Rhinoplasty on the same tape. Buying TV shows back then was shitty, you only got two episodes usually, must have cost loads to get a whole season. I remember taping loads and having a stack of them I used to watch loads. Happy times.
>>64487074
yes I had like 4 o 5 t shirts from that era, south park dropped lots of merchandising those times
Yes, people thought it was hilarious Bart on the Simpsons said eat my shorts at the time so comedy just evolves
>>64483673
>you're ass
You are ass
Please pay attention in school.
>>64482529
yeah age restrictions totally work
>be in 5th grade
>South Park comes out
>only kid in class not allowed to watch it
>>64482529
kek, u mad grandpa? the kids are ruling town now! xD
>>64487337
iktf
>>64483906
everyone likes that era better
>>64480756
yeah, cause I was a middle schooler
>>64481496
>people born in 1997 will be 19 this year
Feels weird from a 92fag
>>64486856
>tfw those old people are probably all dead now
>tfw Matt and Trey are almost 50
