War and Peace won't have that.

But then again, it is not British.

But then again, it might just 'cause it's an ADAPTATION.

But then again, I don't really care.

Kiss my sweaty balls, you fat fuck!

But seriously, approximately 60% of American television is remakes of British and Dutch (Endemol) TV shows, dumbed down a little bit and fronted by some generic blonde bimbo.

I’ve watched a lot of British tv shows over the years and they’ve usually been quite good.

My only complaints are the annoying habit of low-talking British actors facing away from the camera when mumble-mouthing their lines, frequently resulting in the dialog being almost unintelligible and the odd practice of British sound engineers cranking up irrelevant background noises, (footsteps, doors closing, cars driving by, typewriters, etc.) which drowns out the already unintelligible mumble-mouth Britspeak dialog.

Downton Abbey is one of the few British tv shows that didn’t do this.
>>
>>64481623
Sherlock is terrible, and it's confusing just how many people have declared it "the greatest mystery series evar!"

Jeremy Brett was a hundred times better as Holmes than Benedict Cumberfuck.

I could get past the Britspeak, as it is another country so it’s expected that accents will be different but why the hell are background noises so damn LOUD?

I remember watching the Inspector Morse series and frequently he and Lewis would have to walk thru the college and I could barely hear the dialog over the preposterously loud CRUNCH CRUNCH CRUNCH of their Godzilla-like footsteps on the gravel path.

The prequel series, Endeavour (of which I’m probably the only one here who watches…) isn’t too bad about it but still includes needless loud background noises.
>>

I would have said pretty much these (except with Graham Norton over Jonathan Ross) but I guess they all don't count as "recent".

BBC has a monopoly, and it shows. They seem to be getting better, but their shows still feel B. Sherlock feels B. Luther feels B. Peaky Blinders feels B. They should invest a bit more in aesthetics and mis en scene.

I'm from Bristol you fucking cretin. People use the word series to refer to a television show as a whole, that is a fact. It's true across the entire country. It's also fucking awkward and unhelpful if we have to use the same word for each iteration of a show just because people are afraid of minor Americanisms.

>>64482936
The National Anthem was literally just one stupid concept drawn out over a whole episode and Fifteen Million Merits was and abysmally bad conjunction of a boring script and bad acting. The only ok episode was The Entire History of You which was at least interesting.

Well, that was my take anyway.

>>
>>64483044

Americans measure the success of their shows on quantity rather than quality.
If shows only had a dozen episodes in total, like The Office or Fawlty Towers, that would be an abject failure in the eyes of America.
>>
>>64482959
Sorry to be a dick lad, but that's not always true.

Classic Doctor Who was always in "seasons", for example. For the 2005 revival, they started over at "series" 1, which is helpful to differentiate between the two (season 1 is with William Hartnell, series 1 is with Christopher Eccleston).

>I was at the Broadcast awards earlier this week, and sitting alongside winners the BBC's Murdered By My Boyfriend and ITV, Channel 4, Sky, Discovery and UKTV were Vice. Vice picked up two awards including best popular factual programme for their ISIS film. Watch it. It's brilliant. Ten years ago they were a Canadian magazine. Today they’re winning “TV” awards in the UK. More than anything that demonstrates how different the media industry is from when BBC Three launched 12 years ago. We have a new guy working with us at the moment, Max Gogarty, who has joined us from Vice, and we want to continue collaborating with up and coming talent across the digital landscape. I think it is important we take what we already do brilliantly, learn from what others are doing and blend them together on new BBC Three.

Literal autism.

It used to be good until the fucking cucks at the BBC hijacked it and decided we wanted to see political propaganda instead of decent programming

There's nothing wrong with being left wing anon. It's okay to be jealous of our accent just because your girls happen to like it. Our teeth are no worse than yours nowadays too, as studies show.

Britbongs have not had proper training so it's no surprise they are technically poor tbf.

british tv is the best if you actually enjoy quality rather than quantity.
if you like toilet humour then you wont like british stuff.

theres nothing comfier than watching a period drama or a dark setting british murder mystery.

i recommend everyone watch the new programme, its only a few episodes 'And Then There Were None'. really good.
i also recommend Sharpe

>he BBCs budget is 5 billion
Yes, which is spread out across TV, Radio and it's online content.

No way the BBC could justify paying that sort of money for niche programming.

>>64491445
Does it differ substantially from the hollywood adaptation with Russel Crowe? I really liked that movie.

It's a shitty, low-rent version of the movie picture.
