That's true, getting acused from something like raping a woman is pretty much suicide for the guy accused.
Even if you prove you're innocent, like it's show in the end, there's always going to be some kind of stigma over the man. the end of the film proves it, with Hannibal going to hunt, and in the dinner along with the final scene there's people there who don't want him there, going as far like trying to kill him.
