Japanese live action movies for like 2 decades have sucked complete shit and been filled with absolute terribad CGI, crazy overacting and otaku pandering. Final Wars was basically a shitty matrix/super sentai cross over ffs with CGI so bad the beast wars cartoon from the 90s looked better.

Japs these days can't write, act or produce for shit. Knowing the industry as well, they will probably give Anno 5 days to shoot the movie with a $1000 budget.

This is what has me a bit hit and miss about this movie. The effects in AoT were actually quite cool, but also felt very fake and cheap at many points. The titans I think were done well, but all the sets and other special effects like CGI work seemed like syfy movie channel tier.

The Kong announcement came a full year later. with no mention of "more" monsters. In fact if they only had a three picture deal with Toho, G3 probably got canceled already in favor of Kong vs. Godzilla and you can expect a good chunk of their Mothra/Rodan/Ghidorah/TohoUniverse plans dropped forever.

Something like early Showa Mothra's probably actually grounded enough to work. The natives of Infant Island were saved from nuclear testing fallout by a rather gentle radiovore back in the 60s and worship it as a deity. Twins could still work as more normal priestesses, but if Kong starts injecting fantasy, they could still be small and Monarch keeps the whole thing a secret to prevent exploitation.
Like a Legendary Mothra spinoff movie could totally modernize the original's "Kidnap the fairies for entertainment purposes" by having some asshole corporation decide to turn them into a marketable Fairy Princess brand to sell shit to little girls and their parents.

Ghidorah as a lone wolf ayy-superpredator could probably work out too. Maybe tied to the extinction event that drove Godzilla and the radiovores underground/deep-sea.

Yeah, the fairies can be ignored, Toho did that a few times already, but. I had this idea that the more "out there" aspects of Mothra could be things humans hallucinate if they happen to breath in some of her powder (or "scales" if you're watching the Tokyo SOS dub).

I could see an intro scene similar to the 1999 prologue that has Monarch investigating some people on a tropical island who got sick after getting in contact with the stuff, now laying in bed with fever, mumbling about visions of giant bugs, little people and how they keep hearing this creepy song in their head. It helped set her apart from other monsters who were just directionless animals. She had a purpose and a direction.

As far as how they could present the faeries in a modern film, here's my take:
