The neck ruins an otherwise average design.
Also annozilla meme thread
Good to see that /fa/ finally managed to land a role.
Honestly don't have that much hype for this movie.
Japanese live action movies for like 2 decades have sucked complete shit and been filled with absolute terribad CGI, crazy overacting and otaku pandering. Final Wars was basically a shitty matrix/super sentai cross over ffs with CGI so bad the beast wars cartoon from the 90s looked better.
Japs these days can't write, act or produce for shit. Knowing the industry as well, they will probably give Anno 5 days to shoot the movie with a $1000 budget.
Japanese gore/horror has been insanely good though.
Hopefully, this will be good. I'm pretty hype, and donmt see the porblem in annozilla. Looks cool to me, and we haven't even seen it in motion.
I disagree. Making Godzilla look more like a mutant rather than simply a large dinosaur was a good decision and more true to the original concept.
He's supposed to represent the horrors of WW2, from dead servicemen to the atomic bombings. He's not just a big lizard, he's a symbol.
GGWAiT was pretty fucking neat as a concept, so hopefully the bad guy in GZ16 is a marionette.
But real talk I could give a shit, all I fucking want is for Anno to finish 4.0.
>Same effects team behind this movie the same team that did the AoT film.
This is what has me a bit hit and miss about this movie. The effects in AoT were actually quite cool, but also felt very fake and cheap at many points. The titans I think were done well, but all the sets and other special effects like CGI work seemed like syfy movie channel tier.
Nah Godzilla 98 is worse than all of the Godzilla movies. No other Godzilla movie tried to be something it wasn't. The filmmakers knew they were making silly b movies. For Godzilla 98 they were trying to be emotional and one up Jurassic Park, in which they failed.
I agree that it's objective worse than them all, but I disagree on the point that only the orginal had emotion and succeeded, movies like Godzilla x Mechagodzilla and GMK managed to successfully integrate a human story that worse worth caring about.
Zilla made no attempt at emotion, only Jean Reno was the most decent thing about that
>No other Godzilla movie tried to be something it wasn't.
Bullshit, every other movie since the original does just that. From a somber horror movie symbolizing the destruction japan is often exposed to, it went to being a cheap monster franchise with gladiator fights.
Friendly reminder that the original movie had Godzilla die. In that respect, guess which is closer to the original.
If they tried with Godzilla 98, whereas the greedy jap businesssmen didn't for the others, then 98 has more integrity.
In Godzilla 98 they did the whole "woah look at Godzilla" where everybody stops and admires him with the Jurassic Park wannabe music. They even tried to make Godzilla's death somber.
It probably looks weird straight forward, I'm sure camera angles and whatever situations they put him will probably make him look as horrifying as they're pentting him up to be
Godzilla vs Gamera
>find a common enemy
>Team up together
>30 minutes of Gamera and Godzilla punching the shit out of each other
>while continuously shouting “FUCK YOU!”
Daily reminder that Godzilla '98 killed anon's grandma
ITT: Butthurt fat neckbeards self-conscious that Godzilla is a manchild franchise
My advice: Watch the original. For western Godzilla, watch the one form the 90's.
No more viewing required unless you're autistic enough to actually enjoy giant toys beating on each other with zero plot or character to go with.
>Friendly reminder that the original movie had Godzilla die. In that respect, guess which is closer to the original.
Yeah, through a superweapon more deadly then what created him, not six regular missiles to the neck
It was. An anon in the first Godzilla 2016 thread told us about how he showed his grandma Godzilla 98 and she fell asleep. He was met with a few "Did she wake up?" responses and this comoc was made
>post 3rd-impact japan
>final 20-minute battle
All things that made 3.0 awesome. It's not a replacement for the original but an addendum. I don't know why people get so defensive and think Anno is trying to replace the TV series with Rebuild when it's a clear continuation/inter-instrumentality universe.
>No more viewing required unless you're autistic enough to actually enjoy giant toys beating on each other with zero plot or character to go with.
He's half right lmao
They literally used bandai toys lol
it looks so bad. the dumb head turned me off originally but just seeing its body depresses me. god dammit. its gonna be so fucking bad and im gonna have to watch it and then i'll have to kill myself
Pretty sure he was talking about the design, retards, not the movie.
i can accept the long neck, edgy teeth, and stupid eyes, though it's all a little too tryhard and anime for my taste. but the t-rex arms are just too goofy looking and defuse whatever sense of horror his appearance is supposed to convey
>numerous angels are shown to easily and drastically adjust their shape
>eva aren't allowed to
It's not a manchild franchise; it's an outright childrens franchise. The sort of movies you pop into the dvd player to keep the tykes occupied while you do something in the other room. the problem is that manchildren are approaching the age when they should be watching it with their own kids for the first time and briefly feeling nostalgic before getting bored and never watching it again. but they dont have children and in fact still are children mentally, so they never left their godzilla phase
Hopefully the movie is found footage so I don't have to look at this horrible design.
Well... he may be lizzard, and created from nuclear blasts not evolution, but he kinda lokos like a deep sea fish. Fits for a monster from the depths.
Not like they have dentists in the deep sea.
or in Japan.... or England....
>Toho: We want to compete with the Legendary Godzilla
>proceeds to create a rubber suit that's even more retarded than any previous one
Japan BTFO. Just give us all of your properties and we'll make them great.
No one bitched about it in Jurassic Park
It looks like an edgy as fuck Titano redesign with all the red and the neck.
Yes. Because we all remember all those times Gojira used his mighty arms to fight.
At least only the arms are like a T-Rex.
At least they're not trying to rip off Jurassic World, like some certain assholes did with their American remake.
>nor realizing it's a tribute to the puppet (not the suit) used in the original
To be fair to him, I've avoided /v/ for years and been on 4chan since before EB Games went out. I assume it's something to do with Electronic Boutique.
>Godzilla will be manifest using several different techniques, puppets, animatronics, and enhanced by digital effects, with the main "suit" operated by three people
why cant hollywood do this kinda shit?
>ywn sit around with your bachelor inventor buddy and your kid and figure out how to beat a giant cockroach and his buzzsaw gargoyle friend who were summoned to destroy the earth by a bunch of subterranean people who also want your magic robot
With any luck, Legendary's whole "We want to build up a kaiju ecosystem for the shared universe" thing will probably lead Anguirus to pop up somewhere.
What I would love to see is Skull Island using some of the Toho dinosaurs and bugs as the residents the much larger Kong beats up on.
No rumor, that was straight up the Godzilla sequels announcement at Comic Con 2014.
Teaser was some JFK speech over a montage of Monarch files on Rodan, Mothra and Ghidorah ending on "Crisis Inevitable: Let Them Fight"
It's confirmed that Legendary can use them in future sequels. It's not guaranteed that all three of them will appear in G2.
Mothra, Ghidorah and Rodan are the most popular and marketable characters besides G himself, it makes sense that Legendary bought the rights for them. They probably don't give a shit about Anguirus.
>people actually trying to defend G 98
How? Honestly stop being a contrarian and look at the movie. Watch it and try to listen to the dialogue without cringing at every line. The characters and writing are God-awful. Don't even get me started on that shitty ending with zilla's babies as JP raptor ripoffs.
It's a shame Gabara will never be used in anything again. I liked what that Kaiju Killer fanfilm did with him, making him into some creature that mentally attacks the protagonist.
A Yaoi body includes yaoi hands. This godzilla has tiny hands.
Which is why they lead with them on the sequel announcement and the Kong vs Godzilla press release. The latter mentioned Legendary/Warner getting the rights to more classic monsters, but made no mention of who else because normies wouldn't get hype over Ang.
I thought the sequel was supposed to be the same Godzilla (aesthetically) with a "Let them fight" thing going on for the whole movie. I'd much prefer to see monsters fight than see how humans panic and hide.
That's America's Godzilla sequel.
This is Japan's own Godzilla reboot.
>normies wouldn't get hyped over a gritty, grimdark dinosaur with a spiked shell who Godzilla can kick through buildings like a soccer ball
I'm not saying you're wrong, but thats not right.
You're mixing things up m8. Back in SDCC14 Legendary said they were thinking in a trilogy and that they have Mothra, Rodan and KG.
The Kong announcement came a full year later. with no mention of "more" monsters. In fact if they only had a three picture deal with Toho, G3 probably got canceled already in favor of Kong vs. Godzilla and you can expect a good chunk of their Mothra/Rodan/Ghidorah/TohoUniverse plans dropped forever.
I agree, but will never like it. Mechagodzilla wouldn't work with the realism angle, for better or worse. I'd like to see King Caesar but I'm the only one. Gigan might work with heavy redesigns, but why bother? The Smog Monster might work. Ebirah probably not.
No, Kong just became part of the Tohoverse plans.
>Following Legendary’s and Warner Bros. Pictures’ 2014 success with the global reinvention of the Godzilla franchise, the companies have come together to create an epic, new shared cinematic franchise. All-powerful monsters become towering heroes for a new generation, revealing a mythology that brings together Godzilla and Legendary’s King Kong in an ecosystem of other giant super-species, both classic and new. Monarch, the human organization that uncovered Godzilla in the 2014 film, will expand their mission across multiple releases.
>Warner Bros. and Legendary released Godzilla in May 2014 with an agreement to release Godzilla 2 on June 8, 2018. Both films feature the human Monarch organization. Shortly following Legendary’s pact with NBC Universal, Legendary acquired rights to additional classic characters from Toho’s Godzilla universe, including Rodan, Mothra, and King Ghidorah. This paved the way for developing a franchise centered around Monarch and anchored by Godzilla, King Kong, and other famous creatures.
>When Legendary announced films centered on Godzilla and Kong, fans all over the world speculated these two characters might one day meet in the same film. Classic Toho monsters including King Ghidorah, Mothra, and Rodan, as announced at Comic-Con 2014, may also join the Legendary pantheon of giant monster mayhem going forward.
>“Audiences really responded to Godzilla,” stated Tull. “Today, I’m excited to reveal that film was only the beginning of an epic new entertainment universe. As a lifelong fan of these characters, I’ve always wanted to see the ultimate showdown, and today we’re pleased to be announcing that and more.”
I get the feeling 2's gonna start going off the rails between Ghidorah and Mothra.
And really, the realism in Edwards' film was more about showing the consequences of a monster fight and having more pseudo-science
Huh, cool. You're right, my bad, never actually read that from them.
Ang might have a chance.
I'd rather have Mothra fighting Rodan in larva form (Rodan could be preying on larvae instead of the meganula), and only getting wings later in the film. Seems kinda unfair against Godzila to go against all-fyling kaiju from the start.
Good idea with Rodan being the predator. I was thinking a reveal a lot like the Mutos for Mothra. Basically very little larval form shown except for some associated disasters and then he busts out of his cocoon. The psychic twin fairies can be turned into background characters as homage.
Something like early Showa Mothra's probably actually grounded enough to work. The natives of Infant Island were saved from nuclear testing fallout by a rather gentle radiovore back in the 60s and worship it as a deity. Twins could still work as more normal priestesses, but if Kong starts injecting fantasy, they could still be small and Monarch keeps the whole thing a secret to prevent exploitation.
Like a Legendary Mothra spinoff movie could totally modernize the original's "Kidnap the fairies for entertainment purposes" by having some asshole corporation decide to turn them into a marketable Fairy Princess brand to sell shit to little girls and their parents.
Ghidorah as a lone wolf ayy-superpredator could probably work out too. Maybe tied to the extinction event that drove Godzilla and the radiovores underground/deep-sea.
That Mothra thing definitely could work. Not saying I'd want to see more ironic criticism of commercialization by a major movie, but I'd be there opening night all the same because I like seeing monsters fight.
KG being linked to the extinction event would definitely give him a nice weight.
They probably won't use all three of them right away, but they could if they wanted to.
Yeah, the fairies can be ignored, Toho did that a few times already, but. I had this idea that the more "out there" aspects of Mothra could be things humans hallucinate if they happen to breath in some of her powder (or "scales" if you're watching the Tokyo SOS dub).
I could see an intro scene similar to the 1999 prologue that has Monarch investigating some people on a tropical island who got sick after getting in contact with the stuff, now laying in bed with fever, mumbling about visions of giant bugs, little people and how they keep hearing this creepy song in their head. Maybe.
Haha, will do.
It'd be sweet, I can see a whole hippy cult emerging from fanatics who want to trip on Methra. Not in the movies if they want to keep it PG-13, of course.
I hold "people" (read: plebs) who only see R movies or want more tits and gore on network TV in the highest contempt, but an R rating would open things up a bit. It wont happen because Godzilla is basically for kids and people like me who grew up watching the movies, but I can dream.
Can you autistic contrarians just fucking leave already? You have shit taste.
I'd be completely fine with Mothra being 100% supernatural in nature.
It helped set her apart from other monsters who were just directionless animals. She had a purpose and a direction.
As far as how they could present the faeries in a modern film, here's my take:
>Mothra is a sort of ancient guardian monster that is born whenever the earth is in great times of turmoil or disaster
>When the Mothra larvae is close to hatching, it selects a person (or maybe two) to act as a link between Mothra and the human race
>In this case, Mothra selects two twin girls to act as her link
Maybe make them little kids or something.
I think you could almost have it both with the realism and supernatural angles. Just have some psychic twins pop up as Mothra emerges and let Monarch discover their link somehow but not be able to explain it. Then make the Earth being in peril just obvious but not outright stated because of whats going on (not Kickass mumbling "The Earth is in peril, lol" and kinda ruining it by just saying it).
>At least they're not trying to rip off Jurassic World
That Godzilla movie came out in 1998 so unless they had a time traveling Delorean I doubt they ripped off a movie from 2015.
Godzilla 2000 was japan. It's not great but I thought it was pretty good.
You probably meant 98 which, well, I think this is going to be completely like nothing we've seen before, for better or for worse. If it's a disaster, it'll be one for the ages
Why would you use such incredible power for such a thing?
Me? I'd go back and nail News Radio era Maura Tierney. Then Law & Order era Angie Harmon.
Then I'd go back in time to make sure nobody else went back in time to kill Hitler. The pact I made with Satan must be upheld.
>implying the general public has good taste
Japan already had a Godzilla 2000. It was called Godzilla 2000.
And it was good.
Has there ever been a popular American franchise that had an entry be damned because of a director having so much of his own style get in the way of the movie itself? If there has, this might be this
>This movie is going to be Japan's Godzilla 2000.
Wow, this is going to anger a lot of people. So they're going for allegory Godzilla? Like how the skin of the original godzilla was suppose to look like charred flesh, and how the original design was like a deformed giant baby monster thing?
This'll be a hit or miss.
>going to see godzilla reassurgence
>30 minutes in its already wierd
>godzilla for some reason masturbates over an unconscious Mothra, but sure okay I guess
>at the end of the movie godzilla is fighting the enemy monster
>suddenly the word "CUT" appears on he screen
>Godzilla takes off his head and reveals a suit actor
>the camera pans out and reveals the whole set and studio
>anno comes on screen and delivers some monologue about our lives while a choir sings "tumbling down"
>the movie goes to animation and a bunch of Godzilla's appear behind anno
>suddenly the music peaks and everything turns to tang on screen
>as the screen Becomes orange, we cut to a scene of all the Godzilla's clapping as the word Congratulations appears on screen
>It was okay
I feel that they are trying to capture what 84 and 54 had with a touch of 55, but I feel that design feels almost... Too try hard in its shock value. The 54/84 designs had an understatedness to them, and were more subtle in its menace. This seems to be trying to go all out on shock value
>sir, you're county hated your 98 reboot, what kind of look you want?
>just UNFUCK my shit up, Senpai
Can Japanese 4chan clear this up?
I relembwr there was that big story about japan calling Us godzilla fat when in reality that was just a few people when the general consensus over there was that it was accepted
Aren't the angels clones of Lilith?
Making them like, the opposite of angels? Or at least closer to humans than angels.
I really like this design. It's hideous and grotesque, which is what I expected from the first preview image. Can't wait for it to come out.
>Has there ever been a popular American franchise that had an entry be damned because of a director having so much of his own style get in the way of the movie itself?
Edgar Wright's Ant-Man
isnt that like most movies that he does fight a monster? off the top of my head:
>every remainign showa movie minus mothra vs G
>the last 3 heisei movies
>JUST EDGE MY SHIT UP
>expecting anything less from Anno
Also this will clearly be a throwback to the first few films where Godzilla was a beastly, stupid antagonist who fucked shit up, none of that shonen hero crap from the 60's onward.
It was shonen-otaku pandering trash so of course the weebs ate it up.
3.0 got some shit right, especially the eerie WTF tone and the cinematography, but the action was a clusterfuck and character development between the cast was non-existant.
>evas aren't angels
Also is everyone forgetting that Asuka is now essentially some fucked-up hybrid angel? The glowing blue eyepatch? The superhuman strength? The immortality? Also her referring to other people as lilin at the end of the movie, as if she's no longer one herself?
Not everything dark is edgy idiot. They're obviously trying to go for a more menacing monster and thats fine. 2014 was all about the "godzilla is a good guy" angle. Theyre both viable.
I just realized the arm at the bottom-left corner.
That is one very tiny arm.
What are the chances that his left arm is going to be larger than his right as a result of radiation mutation?
Neck and head size is spot on, but arms are way too small.
I figured it out guys. It's a bait and switch
