Is this any good or is it just some boring shit for nerds?
I am just getting into it and it is top tier space opera IMO. I've thought it was dumb nerd shit for most of my life but with all the TFA bullshit I decided to give it a chance. One of the best choices I've ever made.
It starts out boring with several cringeworthy episodes and then gets progressively better in later seasons.
The first few seasons are pretty hard to get through for me, and I've been watching trek since I was little.
"Commander, what a shit way of starting a trek thread"
>Deep shit 9
no thank you
>characters that aren't one-dimensional
Like the overacting magical space negro? like the angry grunting head of security? like the angry psychotic bajoran stronk woman? like the angry drunkedn irish engineer? like the lazy trayvon teenager? liek the retarded ferengi who somehow becomes head of the ferengi alliance? like the actress so bad she was fired halfway through the show?
dukat, pre-crazy dukat, and quark dont even make up half the cast.
as for arcs being better than episodic series, thats highly subjective. just because you like arcs doesnt mean its better. if anything it makes ds9 generic syfy crap instead of like every other trek series.
sorry, bud, but ds9 isnt even really trek.
I'm only a few episodes into Enterprise, and I'm wondering why Archer, Trip (?) and T'Pol always eat at the captain's table, while the rest of the crew eat at a mess hall. Picard and Janeway sometimes ate with Crusher and Chuckles, but it wasn't portrayed as a constant thing. And in a smaller ship like Archer's, seems downright elitist. They just invited Travis the naive black kid to eat with them in the episode I just saw, and it seemed really strange. Like he gets this one pass then gets deinvited back to the mess hall. T'Pol must love it, though, she's kinda racist so probably also classist.
How exactly does coming up with silly names for the characters prove they aren't complex or interesting?
Also I never said that arc-heavy television is better. However, when decisions actually matter, and characters actually grow, it makes the show better whether it's episodic or not. Just because it's episodic television doesn't mean you should use the reset button every fucking time. Even most sitcoms had more continuity than TNG
A little bit of both actually.
Seems normal to me. Enterprise takes place much closer to our present than TNG or Voyager, so it makes sense that the people in positions of power tend to fraternize less with the lower ranking officers as is our current culture (as least as I understand it). Also Archer is the guy who brought his fucking dog along on a multi year space voyage. I really want to know how he got clearance for that (or maybe he didn't, and smuggled Porthos in?). Point being, I think his actions fit with his personality and the setting.
>tfw Morn is a better character than any of the TNG ones
What ever could you be talking about /pol/ ?
also don't ever turn your back on these cunts
>Voyager is fun as fuck
Janeway was one of the best. That voice is so perfect. Even in interviews she always sounds regal and speaks so eloquently. I could listen to her talk for days.
Breen were ripped off from the Daleks and were just given a human body because of costume costs.
That's DS9 quality for you.
>muh mysterious powerful aliens that are brash and hostile
>they don't know Breen were from TNG
>they think using existing lore is worse than making up some new species
>they don't know the Breen mask
was supposed to make you think of wolfman
Typical anti-DS9 shitposters that don't actually know anything about Trek.
not posters youre bitching at, but ds9 was this fedora's fanfic. are you saying this gentleman is your hero? cus it sounds like you are.
is this a 420chan stream? There were some god tier streams during 2011-2012. This seems like a comfy Trek chatroom
There was and still is a Trek stream that I know of but there are only about 4 people their at one time if that. At the high of the streams popularity there were about 18 views but nobody would join in the chat.
No he really didn't. Thinking of it as rape would be like thinking that if the ENT doctor would have given in to T'pols cries to mate it would that have counted as rape.
Well this stream is at a cozy 32 users for the moment.
TELL ME ABOUT KORGANO. WHY DOES HE WEAR THE MASAKA?
I was making a meme out of your memetastic post the last thread, faggot, since you can't seem to get your own "meme" jokes.
Now stay butthurt your "meme" that no one gave a shit/noticed other than calling out cancerous mobilefag posters that the one innocent anon did last thread, to which you sperged about.
>dat last quoted image tho.
>all this seething, bubbling anally devastated butthurt
way to ignore what i said, buddy. if you were a trek thread old timer like myself, you;d know that has been posted to trek threads as image.jpg for at least a year. you obviously dont, since youre only here as part of the dregs that have overpopulated /tv/ thanks to TFA-shit. as soon as your ebored with star wars youll go back to reddit, so its ok. stay mad, kiddo.
DS9 is clearly best trek even with all those shitty Bajorans. Only good part about Bajor is the qt3.14s.
Garak and the Cardassians
5x the waifus of any other trek
Quark and the Ferengi
Hell, it even had the most tolerable Klingon shit
Literally the only thing wrong with it are the Bajorans
i guess mediocre guys are willing to settle for ugmos then. to each their own.
She was so cute in that one episode of The Outer Limits.
Bajoran men are so boring. No wonder their women like the Cardassian Barb so much. No wonder they had to have little girls fight their resistance. No wonder their civilization got taken over so easily. No wonder their civilization lasted for 500k years (longer than H. sapiens has existed, by the way) and yet never developed warp travel.
Remember the time geordi's holodeck experiment went wrong and he had to arrest a black man wearing a red codpiece?
Yes, because she quit Star Trek for a high paying role.
Jadzia was shit no doubt, but Ezri was easily one of the most obnoxious characters in TV. It got to a point where I started skipping any scene with her.
I don't know anything about her character. Haven't gotten around to watching DS9 yet. I just recognized her from an episode of a diffierent show.
I think it just started with riker who then involved troi, then it just got out of control.
Same character. Different actress.
Why do TNG+ phasers look like electric razors? Wouldn't you want your weapon to look threatening in some way?
Probably some Jewddenberry shit about MUH FEDERATION and MUH NOT A MILITARY. He was even aganist DS9 because he though having a space station was too militaristic for MUHH FEDERATION
All the other alien races have standard scifi laser guns.
my bad, just coincidence with marina and frakes
>Greg Weisman commented that, at first, this was unintentional. Marina Sirtis and, later, Jonathan Frakes were both cast in prominent roles, and soon the crew began to think of Star Trek actors when casting new roles
then how did she die twice mr smartypants
Why the fuck didn't they let him do it? Now we're getting Fast and Furious in SPACE!
Except TOS phasers actually looked like weapons. After Roddenberry died, the weapons looked gayer and gayer.
I think it was nice to have a light and frivolous movie after all the seriousness and death of II and III
His character might have been annoying but still would.
Not really. The federation are explorers first not soldiers. Besides a non threatening weapon is better for diplomatic and peacekeeping missions whilst also covering their asses.
I don't think frakes is a particularly good director either.
if I was going to pick anyone to do a trek movie it'd probably be like.
I dunno, robert zemeckis maybe?
Yes, but everyone knows Roddenberry got crazier, more controlling, and more drug fueled as Star Trek went on. Just like Poetry Man.
>After Roddenberry died, the weapons looked gayer and gayer.
obviously the perfect solution
You keep posting. I don't care, memetard, you seem to be projecting, but here's another reply to indulge your attentionwhoring tendencies.
>senpai please like my meme that no one noticed but someone who thought I was an Applefag last thread! ;_;
Because Voyager needed an already established iconic bad guy I guess.
>it's a brent spiner plays his robot man with restraint despite it being incredibly tempting not to episode
This bothered me too until I considered what type of weapons officers on naval vessels today carry. The answer would be none at all, or at most a small sidearm.
Officers on a federation vessel-- even a pure warship like the Defiant-- would not be carrying more than tiny hand-phasers for emergencies. A lot of the time they are just used to do things like get through walls/doors.
Anyways, posting objective best girl
What the frag did you just fragging say to me, you little wrinknose? I’ll have you know I survived The Occupation with my cell in the Bajoran Resistance, and I’ve been involved in numerous secret raids on the Cardassian Union, and I have over 300 confirmed disintegrations. I am trained in mugatu warfare and I’m the top phaser sniper in the entire Bajoran Militia. You are nothing to me but just another holotarget. I will wipe you the frell out with precision the likes of which has never been seen before in this galaxy, mark my zarking words. You think you can get away with saying that dren to me over Fed comms? Think again, yotz. As we speak I am contacting my secret network of Section 31 spies across the Federation and your subspace signal is being traced right now so you better prepare for the storm, slimedevil. The plasma storm that wipes out the pathetic little thing you call your life. You’re smegging dead, kid. I can transport anywhere, anytime, and I can kill you in over forty-seven hundred ways, and that’s just with my bare hands. Not only am I extensively trained in unarmed combat, but I have access to the entire arsenal of Starfleet's Tactical Command and I will use it to its full extent to wipe your miserable mik'ta off the face of the quadrant, you little bloodworm. If only you could have known what uncelestial retribution your little “clever” comment was about to bring down upon you, maybe you would have held your rutting tongue. But you couldn’t, you didn’t, and now you’re paying the price, you tanjing veruul. I will felgercarb fury all over you and you will drown in it. You’re frakking dead, youngling.
And what were you doing during all this, while I spent my life training for this moment? You were running away from Bajor and hiding, you pathetic coward.
I would kill for a theatrical Voyager film.
>tfw the emh will never take you on a spiritual rastafarian voyage of self discovery
It's real anon. I think it was used for a 90s issue of tv guide.
I really do need to pick up Nmesis on blu-ray one of these days.
Fact: TNG has the best models of any show. The six foot model of the Ent-D is the most aesthetic craft in all Trek. Nothing else even comes close. The all digital Voyager isn't even in the same league
doesn't help that the intrepid class looks like hot garbage anywayand the DS9 model has none of the detail or majesty of the Ent-D model. The only ship that even comes close is the Excelsior.
Pic unrelated but still a jaunty fellow.
No doubt about it
What was the deleted comment?
Fuck she almost looked like Phoebe Cates there
>It's a Nadine's hallucination makes her think she's on DS9 episode
Yeah i messed up the spoiler tag and edited.
Damn, i don't know how else to express my delight, other than to say something totally lame like 'i have the biggest nerd boner right now'. Just the thought of Lucy Lawless and Jeri Ryan in the same room, bantering and laughing while getting photo's shot in costume is just urgh!
>Lucy Lawless and Jeri Ryan
For you anon.
Xena (Lucy Lawless) and Seven of Nine (Jeri Ryan) Together
Fucking mirror universe is supposed to be degenerate!
You shut up. This was a damn good movie!
I had to work at the movies when that film came out. The studio ended up giving us way to many posters for that film so I ended up giving them to the girls I went to high school with that had a crush on the white guy in the middle.
>that episode where at the end the crew lightheartedly laughs at a diplomat being killed and eaten while on board the Enterprise
>that episode where Wesley ruins Planet Sex by playing baseball
season 1 was a trip
This is the only sane opinion. Some eps of voyager and enterprise and TAS have redeeming qualities but not enough to declare the whole show worthy of mention along with TOS
which is still the best Trek show
>im really high
YOU WATCH THIS ONE!
Ro Laren is a shit.
>Gets court-martialed and jailed early in her career.
>Spent time as an ensign on Picard's Enterprise.
>Given all of the second chances.
>Grows as a character, forms bonds with Riker and other crewmembers.
>Goes back to Starfleet for advanced training.
>Comes back and throws it all away for a dead rebel that reminded her of her dad.
I liked Ro Laren as a character and I thought the actress was decent, but she became utter trash to me.
She really should have stayed a Loli and relived your youth.
Wow that's harsh anon. I don't like her either but she doesn't deserve to suffer like that. I'd rather she just has a slutty phase on Risa before getting a job as a dabo girl on Orion.
I always thought it was more of a tool than a weapon. It could cut through metal but also kill or stun people so it was multi purpose. Then there are the phaser rifles in DS9 and Voyager which are pure weapons.
>it's a Kira gets BLACKED episode
please someone save me from this degeneracy
>Not knowing that the 4 was only used for certain shots and that the it was the basis of the best ship of TNG
>>when they replaced the beautiful but combersome 6 foot model with the ugly, bumpy but lighter 4 foot model in the beginning of the 7th season
