Hey /tv/ whaddaya think? patrician or pleb?
Also post what you got.
Here's my shelves as of 3 weeks ago. Everything I've bought in the last 8 months is up there.
your picks aren't bad OP. Most of it is stuff I wouldn't buy for myself but I wouldn't judge someone for owning them/
My pleb collection. Not much, looking to make it bigger.
So guys, I'm thinking about picking up the Zavvi Frozen Steelbook. It comes with 3D and it's a special edition case, which are huge pluses, but it's going for around $80-100+. I've never spent that much on a Blu-Ray before, should I go through with it?
> No Capeshit
> Sierra Madre on Steelbook
> At least one John Wayne film
> Dat Sopranos on blu ray
I can understand most of those purchases, and I'm honestly curious when I ask this, but what drives someone with such a small collection to decide on purchasing something like Man on Fire, Hitman, or Terminator Salvation on Blu-Ray?
>The Treasure of the Sierra Madre
I'd consider myself a Western aficionado and yet I still haven't seen this one
Is it worth a go OP or did you buy it merely for criterion meme collector's appeal?
It's nice having a physical collection you can browse when you want to watch a movie
It's nice having a physical copy of a movie you love.
It's nice having the extra features that come with a physical release, director cut/commentary, etc.
It's nice seeing them on your shelf and browsing with friends to pick a movie.
Stop being a fucking piece of shit and let people enjoy movies.
Cute kids. Come back when you have over 300Blueray and over 400DVD.
Bargain bin. I honestly enjoy Terminator Salvation and Hitman. I think they're bad movies but they're fun to watch and get drunk to. Man on Fire was just a random pickup, I didn't see it and it was like $4.
>yfw there are anons on /tv/ with less than 100 BRD
8/8 might do a bonus pic with all my recent purchases
Most of my stuff is in storage, I easily have that many. Come back when you have 200+ VHS tapes, pic related is just my Disney shit.
That's cool, I figured it was probably something like that. Thanks for the insight. I see people posting way worse shit in their blu-ray collection all the time and was just curious.
wew lad what a hoarder, just pointless in this day and age, having some physical media for your favorites is fine, but you really can't argue that those are your favorite 700 movies.
Are you telling me you actually take the disc out of the boxes and put them in a media player?
You can download extra features usually but yeah maybe if you love a film that much extra features might be interesting.
I'd be tempted to buy some blu rays to look nice on a shelf but it's so sporadic what does and doesn't get a blu ray release that I'd just rather have nothing than an imperfect collection.
There'll be a new format one of these days to fuck everything up anyway.
What the fuck are you talking about? 3/4 of those are something you get with EVERY blu ray. You get bonus features. You get the pleasure of owning a physical copy. You get a physical collection. Are you delusional or just autistic?
>Having mixed genre of films randomly organized
If you're going to own a physical "collection" in 2016, at least have it all be of a similar theme
Westerns, Mafia flicks, Sci-fi, Foreign, something. Random hollywood flick collections are absolutely revolting.
>not selling all your VHS for the superior DVD versions
U WUT M8?
Aw man I love seeing your shit posted in all the physical media threads. Really jealous of your collection.
>FUCKING GREEN LANTERN THE ANIMATED SERIES FUCK YEAH
I let a buddy from work borrow my set and never got it back. Just gives me a reason to pick up the Blu-Ray I guess.
>not having a media room
>not lining an entire wall with physical media
>There'll be a new format one of these days
Yes, BD-XL which is for 4K video, Unless you plan on buying a 4K tv and a 4K Blu-ray player (PS4/Xbone won't work), Blu-ray will be the final physical format that is popular.
BD-XL releases will probably come with the normal Blu-ray discs / Ultraviolet / DVD the way that 3D Blu-rays currently do.
My parents back home have a large collection of DVDs, and every now and then I'll transcode and store them on a server hosted onsite. This probably isn't even 10% of it but it's the stuff that caught my eye at the time mostly.
>implying they are for "watching"
Get a load of this pleb
Your parents sound like very classy people. They should be posting here. Not you!
Here's one of about six columns of shelves, this was taken a long time ago though, probably has grown a lot since
>how much did that cost?
The movies and shit? idk I get most of them off amazon or ebay
the shelves are just 1x6 pine and 1/2 plywood with an 8" space between shelves, glued and screwd
>Blu-ray will be the final physical format that is popular
>implying the maid doesn't "dust"
You're too poor to even talk to. Good day sir!
Nah, I actually like VHS
I pick up the Blu-Rays/DVDs when I can, but again I also like having the VHS. I may end up selling/giving away any triples that I have of Disney stuff though.
Bonus pic: Recent purchases
Worth the $25 for the blu-ray? I love the series obviously but what about special features and quality?
>Getting the "triple features"
Spotted the DIRTY NIGGER
Not enough food stamps to afford the regular versions, ehh Jamal?
>implying cinema won't directly stream to portable quantum USB's in 2032
Do you even future dude?
I don't have any 3D blu-rays, I do have dvds but I put most of them (mostly film box sets) in a box because I couldn't stand to look at them.
Now I just have the two series of GitS, a box set of the first two of the films and the SSS film, all on dvd on display. Arise and a double bill set of the first two films on blu rays is next to them,
that kind of works for me because it's all GitS stuff, but it pisses me off I don't have the series on blu ray (which I will never get) or SSS on blu ray (which I will eventually.)
I regret getting any of it because I feel like the only perfect collection is no collection.
Am I autistic?
Thought you're joke was too good to pass up but ashamed of your own typos?
Anyway not him but there is nothing wrong with Triple Features if you're looking to just watch the movie. I prefer the individuals because most of the time they have other features, but I'm not gonna judge someone for having multi-packs.
>implying quantum tunneling isn't much much faster than google fiber
Enjoy dat lag yo
>implying whomever got him those shitty movies didn't use food stamps
>implying white people give niggers gifts
>the year is 2019
>reddit has become the world's most visited site
>the last remnants of red pilled society are putting up a valiant fight
>the reddit approved senate open a portal in space time to bring reinforcements from another earth
>they get more than they bargained for when they turn out to be more reddit than reddit
Real movie. It's about a serial killer that kills through the spreading of memes. A bunch of 4chan users discover it and meme each other to death.
I wish I could make this up.
>ugly white/wood utility shelves cobbled together
>nailed directly to the wood
>tons of media
I bet you're really fat. Like REALLY REALLY FAT! Post shadow or Trump will deport your kind!
Could be, but I don't remember it being directly stated.
The way the killer works is, if you're talking to someone and you say "I did it for the lulz" 3 times he appears behind them and kills them. He also writes this in blood multiple times. You can expect mentions of other memes too like Pedo Bear
No need to be concerned Juan. No one is falling for your SPICS TRICKS! AMERICAN IS FOR WHITE CHRISTIANS ONLY! TRUMP WILL DEPORT YOUR KIND! WE HAVE TO! WE HAVE NO CHOICE! WE HAVE TO MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN!
2016! TRUMP! MAKE AMERICA WHITE AGAIN!
>insulating the Fuhrer
NEIN NEIN NEIN
Know your place mudblood
I got a buddy at work who has the Pinocchio steelbook, I might buy it off of him or trade or something.
Pisses me off, I want to catch up on the Zavvi Disney Steelbook collection but don't want to drop near $100 per title.
are you fucking kidding me?! PEDOBEAR? ah nah i have to see this shit for real this has to be the worst shit even made-and i'm talking even worse than uwe boll/michael bay films!
I decided to stop buying $40 criterion blu Rays and instead buy $1000
At least with games, especially retro ones you know they'll increase in value. My current movie shelf is like, $2700 worth of movies? But it's only worth half that most likely.
Don't want to spoil the ending for you but expect more memery.
Also they never, EVER properly use memes right. For example, Pedobear gets a mention because
one guy in the movie reported child porn that other college guys were posting, so they gave him the nickname Pedobear. Not ironically or anything, they honestly put a meme into the movie and used it improperly.
Good shit man. I bought Antichrist for full price the other day. $40 for a blu-ray I'm not gonna watch for another few years. Waste of fucking money, those are, you're better off finding them second-hand.
Check out the poster again, it has the prestigious award of having over 30 million trailer views :^)
And that's totally not because of "famous" youtube stars in the movie, like
Shane Dawsonand Tobuscusshilling their product
>Paying for the worst season of Dexter
S4 is where its at
>owning Heroes Seasons beyond 1
into the trash your collection goes
Of course there's a lot of shit i would love to have that i currently don't (Brakhage's Anthology and Three Films by Teshigara on Criterion, for example)
Also Alice in the cities DVD is on the way
Anyway since some of them are in spanish i'll list them
>bottom to top
>David lynch: Inland Empire, Mulholland Drive, , Wild At Heart, Elephant Man and Eraserhead
>Barry Lyndon, Kubrick
>Seventh Seal, Bergman (looking to buy: through a glass darkly, hour of the wolf and wild strawberries)
>Cries and Whispers, Bergman
>Berlin Alexanderplatz, Fassbinder
>Red Deser, Antonioni
>Kielowski: Colors trilogy, Decalogue, A Short Film About Love/Killing
>Joy Lock Club, Stone
>Godard: Notre Musique, Masculin Femenin
>Akira Kurosawa's Dreams
>Grave Of The Fireflies
Nice collection. A good balance of true patrician and fun movies. I've been thinking of picking up that bttf blu ray myself (entirely for the bonus features, how are they?).
Delineating your collection by packaging type is a great idea. Those steelbooks look sexy together.
Some good choices here. Grand Budapest Hotel is probably the best film of the past half decade. Cowboy Bebop is one of the objectively best anime.
I'd like to know how much you spent on this. DVDs and blu-rays can come pretty cheap with the right amount of patience, but if you bought this all new you must have spent a fortune. Impressive collection.
Did you make a thread with this image the other day? Pollyanna is a cute movie. Rocketeer is great.
Kubrick triple feature immediately caught my eye. Three great movies. I take it this disc doesn't have many, if any, special features for any of them, though?
I've only ever seen the regular cut of Watchmen. Is this "ultimate cut" worth the watch? It's probably my favourite capeshit of all time, and the only good thing Zack Snyder ever made.
It really sets my 'tism off seeing incomplete physical copies of shows. What about the third season and the third season alone of Dexter did you like enough to buy it on blu-ray? Props on Battle Royale, Army of Darkness, The Thing, They Live, Brazil and A Clockwork Orange btw.
>Delineating your collection by packaging type is a great idea. Those steelbooks look sexy together.
Yeah, I usually organize my blu-ray shelf by Collector Sets/Criterion/Steelbook/Everything else and alphabetize within those secitions, but I think once I set up a new media cabinet I'm gonna give my Disney and Godzilla shit their own shelf.
>Did you make a thread with this image the other day?
Yeah, I did.
>I've only ever seen the regular cut of Watchmen. Is this "ultimate cut" worth the watch? It's probably my favourite capeshit of all time, and the only good thing Zack Snyder ever made.
I've seen all 3 cuts, and Ultimate is the only way I can watch it anymore. It adds a whole new narrative and, if you can understand the context, fleshes out characters in ways they needed to be. There's a few pacing issues, but that's to be expected in a 4 hour cut and it's nothing that really takes you out of it.
Heres my working collection, just a pleb pretending to be patrician. Bro is borrowing my Bladerunner and Alien anthology
gonna be honest most of it's cool I'm just thrown by ted and paul and pineapple express and anchorman 2 and guardians of the galaxy and avengers and ant man and x-men and pacific rim and sucker punch and transformers and king kong and and wow ok no I'm right it's mostly junk I don't have time in the day to list it all.
Nice set, that Kubrick triple feature really is a steal (plus Repo Man is a pretty cool movie).
How is House by the way?
My collection. Just took these pictures, hope they are clear enough.
>Wasting money on physical media
>Buying free shit
Keep wasting your money.
This is the most hipster thing I've seen all week. Those have to be custom made.
Nah m8, that's a pretty decent mix of arthouse and classic hollywood movies. I don't see a single bad thing in there except maybe Dexter.
do you think a 2tb portable hard drive is enough for a decent collection? I wanna build a portable library of good films and series to share with my pleb friends. Nothing above 1080p, maybe less for the series
That's nothing compared with my hard disks collection
First time my collection is on a bookshelf, much nicer than boxes!
2 blurry=retard, likely pleb
motel hell = no
We'd get along. How is The Proposition? Love Westerns and violent movies, but for some reason never got around to that one.
You should check out Bone Tomahawk OP. Easy 8/10, maybe a 9 but I just watched it today so I'm going to temper my enthusiasm.
All my movies were stolen recently. This is what I bought with one trip to Half-Price Books. So far to go...
