Since Vader is cool and I wish they made him look more badass in the movies
I like this, but it's not Vader. Looks like something a Vader cult or something would wear.
Too Halo, but I dig that lightsaber. Wish you'd see more Jedi/Sith use the Force to control their saber...the Yoda Dooku fight could have used Yoda using the force to control his saber, it would have been a lot more visually interesting.
would a saber that this actually be viable? Pic not related.
I have no idiea, but most likely due to budget reason and special effect difficulties tied to things like lightsabers being a Stormtrooper issue weapon, Zero-G battles and Vader being blown out an airlock but able to survive in space due to his suit.
>went to school for fine art
>is now creating concept and fan art shit
God, I hate Digital Painting and the aesthetic standards that dominate both video games and the film production of the day.
I miss the days of the more traditional illustration methods and the Airbrush, meant that your conceptual designer was more likely to have actual aesthetic talent to go with his skills, because it was harder to get things done which meant the artist needed more skill and training to get where he was at.
>God, I hate Digital Painting
Me too, there's something disgustingly smooth about it
not him but after 3 came 4 (pretty innovative stuff) and 4 was a sick pirate simulator and the protag told the assassins to shove it and just went about his own stuff
but then came Unity and Syndicate and now AC is SJW garbage
>those storm retainers though.
Yeah. It also never seems to capture light in a satisfying, non artificial way and illustrators using the technique almost always end up overdesigning, most likely as a way to compensate for the lack of the tangible feel of different pressured brush strokes and the way it can shape the style and mood of something done with more traditional methods.
4 had a woman impersonating a man (though to be fair, she was a pirate and would have had the shit raped out of her otherwise)
The next two were so abysmal I didn't even bother, but like >>64342686 said, it's now SJW trash since Unity.
Syndicate goes full tranny from what I understand.
There's nothing inherently wrong with digital, it's just that snake oil salesmen like Feng Zhu and Maciej Kuciara have taught a generation of up-and-coming illustrators to take shortcuts, collage photos, rely on 3D as a crutch, etc right out the gate instead of learning the fundamentals THEN learning fancy tricks to speed up a workflow.
I think Kylo's design is cool as well. It's just a shame he'll be taking his mask of every 5 seconds in the movies, because I think the hooded armour look really works.
Oh, Anne Bonny and Mary Read are historical figures, every female pirate ever in film are exaggerated versions of them.
They were successful because they both used to fuck Calico Jack, which also saved there lives because they were both pregnant when they were arrested.
I have a feeling that Luke would have worn this in cloud city if Hamill didn't learn to sword fight in time for Episode V. In one of his interviews he talked about how that was hard because they could put a professional fencer in the Vader suit but he obviously also had to hold his own.
Mecha Boba Fet-San looks pretty neat though
>That light saber sharpener
Do you mean his wakizashi? it's the small companion sword that samurai carry along with their katana. mainly for ceremonial purposes, thus his stance.
Really digital painting is just a tool. It's more about the changing aesthetic standards and what is considered fashionable these days versus decades ago. When you're pining for the old, unwieldy physical techniques of making art (which any actual artist who has tried both traditional and digital would say are just frustrating and slow) what you're really nostalgic for is the retro style of these old artists. Nothing wrong with that of course, I like that retro shit too. Sadly, a majority of people would just think it looks old and bad now.
Change the shoulders and I could dig it
Worst thing I've ever seen in my life
What the fuck is this Halo? 0/10 dogshit
Looks like a big pile of dogshit and vomit. 0.
Ok I changed my mind about McQuarrie now this is utter shit.
Vomit inducing shit.
Helmet fucking sucks.
Fuck you I kind of like this.
I can't believe you actually posted this horseshit.
Once again, fucking retarded and the person who thought of this should kill themselves.
God-Tier and superior to star wars in every way imaginable.
Almost but this too is shit.
Honestly, I think the main problem I have with it is the stripy shoulder armour. If it was darker or maybe split into pauldron-chestplate-pauldron sections I think it would be fine
I could go for that but they tried to modernize his look a little more in prequels and OT martyrs want what they exactly saw originally and nothing else.
I can understand purism but I think you're right the look could be slightly altered and made better
Merge it with the clockwork cyborg quality Karl Ruprecht Kroenen has in Hellboy, and we're well on our way designing a pulp WW2 version of Star Wars that will never be made.
Concept art is 98% of what any art student will be doing for most of their careers. The other 2% is private commissions. Maybe some personal work that isn't even statistically significant.
That would be mostly through if we're talking about artists going for careers mostly about making illustrations.
There are huge fields of visual design outside illustration however and these are what most art students will actually do (while lamenting not getting to actually draw as much as they would want).
I would agree with you, but there has been little overall progress in the way digital concept art painting is conducted aesthetically in the last one and a half decade or so when it became the standard way to do things.
Has a point. Digital painting can look good and in theory it is just another medium for the artists to express themselves, it's just that most artists working today pale in comparison to what we had before, because this medium gives the artists that grow up with it too many shortcuts to remain shoddy and lazy and still get rewarded for it.
He already is enough of a menacing badass. The OP pic is not badass but more towards faggit. I mean just look at that tiny head, gross.
actualy vader was offered a new and better suit on several ocasions, but he was afraid he won't survive the transfer from his shitty suit to a new suit.
so he learned to live with the shitty suit, upgraded it himself and adepted his fighting style to it.
sheev made the suit shit on purpose to make sure vader would never be strong enough to rebel, and to keep vader constantly pissed off.
it's the same with the spider-man movies or most other movies with a masked hero or villain.
either the actor himself wants to show his face as much as possible or the studio's want it.
>all this dumb EU shit
There's nothing wrong with Vader's suit. He can move just as well as any normal human being inside it and still jumps and flips better than anyone but Luke in Empire and Jedi.
desu when Kylo had the hood down and you could see the Vader-shape of the helmet he looked just as good as Vader.
More samurai daek wizard than robot and that whole concept of going back to the fantasy style and being even more of a McQuarrie movie than the originals was JJ's best decision.
>you know that character who's designed to emulate a mix of a samurai and nazi stormtrooper except in a sci-fi setting?
>I took away the samurai influences and made him pure nazi. Aren't I so artistically talented?
>what Jedi could look like if they weren't made into desert monks
To be fair, that's a toy. It's not made to improve or one-up the old design, it's made so you can physically own an "alternate" design. In that aspect it succeeds. But I'm a faggot toy collecter, so what do I know?
The death star was probably cheap to make because he had an entire clone army with nobody to fight and a whole droid army with nobody to fight so he probably just melted down the droids and used the clones as free labor.
Was it ever answered in the canon (old EU or otherwise) what actually happened to all the separatist droids after the war? You might think sheev would find a use for them other than just melting them for raw materials.
And pic related.
Palpatine was cheap and stupid, and it bit him in the ass across the board. TIE Fighters had no shields. Death Star was horribly designed. The Moffs were given command of the military despite them being an ineffective Germanic nobility, simply because they'd never get their shit together enough to wage a coup against Palpatine.
Reminder that Moebius fully-embraced digital and did everything on a Cintiq towards the end of his life.
I never felt like I had any problems getting a painted look, but I guess I'll leave that up to your judgment.
I do agree it gets relentlessly abused as a medium, though.
I don't understand. How is Kylo the "master of the knights of rhen" when he is such a little bitch who has not finished his training? That just means that the rest of them are weaker than him, so stupid.
No it doesn't. Looks like a fucking morphsuit
It's pretty much a given that the nazis were cool.
They had taste in clothing.
They were highly educated.
They advanced science and engineering like no others managed at that time.
Yeah. They were cool. Cry more about it.
>and invented the atom bomb
They did invent the atom bomb. They were just not the first to construct it. They were the first to construct a nuclear reactor though.
>not even knowing basic history
And by American Vietnam standards, they did win the war. The casualties they inflicted outweighed their whole national population by a vast margin, let alone the army.
Bitch more bitch nigga.
>And by American Vietnam standards, they did win the war.
Wait, when did the vietnamese invade mainland america, rape every american woman and child, take control of their government and brainwash their entire culture to completely abhor their previous ideology more than anything else in the world?
No, its concept art from ANH, which over its creation, went through several major revisions.
One of which was that Laser Swords were a common weapon, and even storm troopers had them.
you are retarded mate
that suit is a 3d model not a painting, and people still do more traditional stuff without supplementing them self with 3d renders in 99% of the cases
the fact you enjoy thsi particular style dosnt mean any other is worse, especially sicne you can find endless artists with a more realistic style online
The end of return of the jed-oh-wait-that's-right
The most wasted character in 15 years.
>keep him COOL
>keep him HIDDEN
They fucked up. As soon as he loses his cool, he stops being scary because a character without self-control can fuck up at any time.
I'm scared of nobody in the new movie, not even Snoke. Shame.
How Star Wars became a pussy:
>revenge of the Jedi becomes RETURN of the Jedi, because rightful revenge is seen as EVIL by hippie faggots and progressives
>kill the sith, you become a sith, literal psychorigid avoidance of justice through violence
>Vader's real face turns out to be pretty cute, all white, all pristine except for a few scars, not the horribly disfigured and aged face he should have had
>Chewbaccas turn to ewoks
>Solo doesn't die in REVENGE of the Jedi
I actually kinda agree with this.
Used to love Vader but honestly now, the more I look at his suit, the more I think it looks really stupid.
Nothing in his design really connotes evil, aside from the black and red. The helmet has elements that I like, namely the samurai and Nazi influences, but the face of the helmet just looks dumb.
Kylo Ren's mask/helmet really isn't much better either.
>Nothing in his design really connotes evil,
Germany helmet style, blackness, can't see his human side, etc. Evil is retarded, it conveys better things.
Also, mostly, the fact that this suit is what keeps him alive: a mechanical contraption that keeps his reduced bit of meat living and functional.
Think of him this way: flesh imprisoned in a life-sustain apparatus.
That's what makes Vader great and frightening. Too bad they fucked up with Revenge of the Jedi and didn't show his burned disfigured real self.
>Germany helmet style, blackness, can't see his human side, etc.
>Also, mostly, the fact that this suit is what keeps him alive: a mechanical contraption that keeps his reduced bit of meat living and functional.
>Think of him this way: flesh imprisoned in a life-sustain apparatus.
Thing is, the suit is awful at conveying that. I get that that's the entire point of it, but it leaves a bit too much to the imagination in that regard imo.
>Too bad they fucked up with Revenge of the Jedi and didn't show his burned disfigured real self.
The reveal was disappointing.
Eh...I'm just not a big fan of Vader. He's a worse
