What are some good horror movies to watch?
>>
>>49261395

bump, fucking awesome I am watching that OP thanks

>>
Any good new horror movies that came out?
>>
Good film, but Lovecraft is rolling in his grave.
>>
>>49261495
NP, it's a pretty good b horror movie
>>

whatcha in the mood for
>Slashers
>Vampires
>Zombies
>werewolves
>cheesy
>midgets
>aliens
>monsters
>killer robots
>>
I prefer stuff like possession or spirits but really anything tense and interesting. Favourites include stoker and orphan.

Seems so hard to find things that don't suck.
>>
Wtf happened to the horror genre? Hollywood used to pump out tons of good ones
>>
Sauna: Wash your sins
>>
I saw From Beyond as a kid, and spent a huge chunk of my young adult life trying to find it again.

Googling "horror movie where that one guy who like a worm wiggling out of his forehead" just was not helping.
>>
Is that the movie where the machine or w/e turns the chick horny?
>>
>>49261852
Yes.
>>
>>49261587

I prefer schlock adaptations of Lovecraft to the current trend. You know, none. At all.

Also everyone in this thread watch Re-Animator and Bride of Re-Animator if you haven't. Both GOAT and also starring the great Jeffrey Combs.
>>
>>49262009
Watched The Wicker Man and Terrorvision yesterday. Both were enjoyable, especially The Wicker Man, though I admit, when the musical bits started, it became awkward because they came out of nowhere. Also, is the protagonist suppose to come off as unlikeable? Didn't really feel any sympathy for him at the end.

Watch Hellraiser III tonight. First half was great, but the last half was fucking awful. About to watch TCM II. What am I in for? Is Dennis Hopper batshit in this as he usual?
>>
i want to watch something spooky, not necessarily legit scary but just has that spooky halloween vibe
any recs?
>>
>>49262009
>>49262106
I'm sorry, I didn't mean to quote you. Though Reanimator is on my list. Would it be a good film to pair with Dead Alive?
>>
>>49261918
Barbarella isn't scary
>>
>>49262113
Trick r Treat is Halloween themed
>>
>>49262113
Try Clownhouse. It's literally Halloween with clowns
>>
>>49262119

Absolutely. They're both horror comedies.

You realize "From Beyond" is literally the first search result term for that right?

Holy shitting fuck. I almost forgot about that one.
I've never squirmed so goddamn much and felt so uncomfortable during dialogue between characters.
Theres these two people, one of them is Ashley Judd. And some guy.
They lock themselves in an apartment, and shit slowly, slowly goes completely fucking nuts with conspiracy shit and things under the guys skin that may or may not be there and.... bleagh.
>my face during the last half
>>
>>49263325

romero invented the particular type of zombie/zombie lore that is popular today although recently more variations have been getting attention.
>>

i remember really digging the use of silence and sound in that one, but fuck if i can remember much else

Just watched Sleepaway Camp. Holy shit that was awesome. The 80's was incredible for horror.
>>
>>49264532
Watch the sequels except the 4th one I think.
I say don't watch the 4th one because it is literally just stock footage and only about 2 minutes of original footage.

Angela is amazing in 2 & 3
>>
I remember seeing this image of a woman who has had her mouth slit both sides and she looks pretty creepy, the name of the movie is on the tip of my tongue, anyone know what it is?
>>
>>49264623
Yeah I was reading up about the sequels but I'm hesitant since it's a different actress and they turned into comedy-horror films.
>>

kuchisake onna? (slit-mouthed woman)

Altered States was great. The hallucinations were insane, and the last act had that 2001 surrealist feel to it

It's basically a visual representation of the anxiety David Lynch felt when he was about to be a father.
>>

I love it, it's like a fever dream on video.
>>
Name a good horror movie that doesn't use jumpscares.
>>
>>49273786
I don't think there is such thing.
There is nothing wrong with jumpscares when used correctly. Even movies like The Shining and The Exorcist use them.
>>
>>49273854
>There is nothing wrong with jumpscares when used correctly

True but most movies seem to just rely on them, i want that unnerving tension, anyone can get scared when something pops out in front of you.
>>
Is Berbarian Sound Studio worth watching?
>>
>>49273885

reliance on them is the number one worst sin in horror movies and the pain the people who use them experience in hell is the most severe.

Big Trouble in Little China is his best movie for sure, but The Thing and They Live are close seconds for me
>>
>>49274201
Actually, Escape From New York is mine.

The Thing is probably one of the only movies that has actually made me uneasy. Then there also are movies that has scared me, like Fire in the Sky, never ever watch that shit. Why the fuck did I tell you. Just forget it.
>>

>>
>>49274232

Te mouth of madness if bretty gud.

Not strictly horror, but Diabeł, Sanatorium pod Klepsydra, and Doctor Faustus all deserve some love.
>>
>>49262207

The behind-the-scenes of that movie were more fucked up than the movie itself.

Friends convinced me to stream this the other night. It is the second worst movie I've ever seen. Not because of the controversey, but just because of how bland and uninspired it was and the fact that half the cast were literal prostitutes hired for it.

I think that's the point. It gives you the sense that the people on the island aren't quite right.

I watched Hellraiser for the first time last night, and I thought it was pretty good, but I was hoping to see more of the cenobytes(spelling?). Which sequels are worth watching, and which are more cenobyte focused?

For those that haven't seen the 1980 version of Maniac yet, watch it late one night this October. Joe Spinell is easily one of the creepiest, convincing psychopaths in film history.

The 2012 version with Elijah Wood is also surprisingly well made and worth a watch also.
>>
>>49277616
I remember all the kids saying it was scary when I was in elementary school, but my parents were overprotective fucking shits and didn't let my brother or me watch scary movies.

>>49277580
It's one of the best 90's horror films and Tony Todd is one scary motherfucker in it.
