Not a bad idea. I think it suffers from focusing on the kid too much, by giving the kid the focus of the story it limits how deep you can go with Arnold's character. Maybe if it got pushed to an R-rating and actually dealt with the existential themes of realizing your world is a fiction it could have worked. Also I love interest in the film by the tar scene. Just dumb.

Fictional characters are often made to say things they would never say in order to inform the audience.

One possible solution is to convey this information through non-verbal story-telling, but this goes over most heads leaving many confused.

Leave brochures in each seat to provide exposition and back story. Have the lights nice and bright so that people can read easily and give people a good 30 minutes to understand the setup for the material. Then have a quick 15 minute test to make sure everyone is on the same page. If you get a failing mark you must wait until the next showtime to try and take the test again. Seats are then allocated based on test scores (if you barely passed then you have to sit in the very front row of to the corner)

Not to mention that CIA claims his flight plan only had one of them on it. But then he never killed any of them, implying he either didn't file a flight plan or filed one with all of them accounted for. So having one guy stay behind was pointless.
