OP here, great choice
I watched this when I was a little kid
I felt heartbroken when the horse died
Harry Potter series had many great British actors like Kenneth Branagh, Alan Rickman, Gary Oldman, David Thewlis, Maggie Smith, John Hurt, Ralph Fiennes etc etc.
What other series have done something like this?
Game of thrones
Iain Glen, charles Dance, Liam Cunningham, Tobias Menzies, Sean Bean, Mark Addy, Ciaran Handis (or however his name is), Jim Broadbent, Jerome Glove, Aidan Gillen, Stephen Dillan
Why didn't the actors just cast themselves out of the dullest franchise in the history of movie franchises? Seriously each episode following the boy wizard and his pals from Hogwarts Academy as they fight assorted villains has been indistinguishable from the others. Aside from the gloomy imagery, the series’ only consistency has been its lack of excitement and ineffective use of special effects, all to make magic unmagical, to make action seem inert.
Perhaps the die was cast when Rowling vetoed the idea of Spielberg directing the series; she made sure the series would never be mistaken for a work of art that meant anything to anybody?just ridiculously profitable cross-promotion for her books. The Harry Potter series might be anti-Christian (or not), but it’s certainly the anti-James Bond series in its refusal of wonder, beauty and excitement. No one wants to face that fact. Now, thankfully, they no longer have to.
>a-at least the books were good though
"No!" The writing is dreadful; the book was terrible. As I read, I noticed that every time a character went for a walk, the author wrote instead that the character "stretched his legs."
I began marking on the back of an envelope every time that phrase was repeated. I stopped only after I had marked the envelope several dozen times. I was incredulous. Rowling's mind is so governed by cliches and dead metaphors that she has no other style of writing. Later I read a lavish, loving review of Harry Potter by the same Stephen King. He wrote something to the effect of, "If these kids are reading Harry Potter at 11 or 12, then when they get older they will go on to read Stephen King." And he was quite right. He was not being ironic. When you read "Harry Potter" you are, in fact, trained to read Stephen King.

HBO has officially greenlighted a third season of Nic Pizzolatto’s crime anthology series True Detective. The pickup was considered a formality after the network earlier this summer closed a deal with Oscar winner Mahershala Ali to star in the new installment, with the green light contingent on locking in a director. Jeremy Saulnier has now been set as a Season 3 director alongside Pizzolatto who will make his directorial debut on the series.

>Netflix recently released the trailer for its upcoming documentary, Long Shot, which takes a look at the false arrest of Juan Catalan and how Larry David saved him from the death penalty. The documentary begins chronicling the arrest of Catalan for the shooting of a key witness in a murder case. With ticket stubs in hand, the 24-year-old machinist told police that it was impossible for him to have committed the crime as he was at a Los Angeles Dodgers game with his daughter. When police didn’t buy his alibi, Catalan contacted Dodgers Stadium, who pointed him to comedian Larry David who had been filming an episode of Curb Your Enthusiasm at the location.
>Thanks to the outtake footage from the show which placed him at the game, Catalan walked free with all charges dropped. To learn more about the documentary and the unlikely comedian’s role check out the trailer above.
Is there anything Larry David can't do?
>Joshua: We originally cast Eric Roberts [to play a bail bondsman]. We shot it, and edited it, and realized, "Hey—I don’t think this unbelievably expositional scene can survive the artifice of a movie star." So we cast an actual bail bondsman. And he improvised one line while on the phone. In his mind, he’s getting details from the court, and he goes, "Lovely." There’s no one on the other line! Only an actual bail bondsman could do that part. And that masks the exposition that’s happening.
