Are we due for a massive superhero film crash?
It doesn't look like it will happen any time soon, and im sure kids will always enjoy them, however it looks like studios are becoming more and more reliant on them, large budgets, multiple planned films years in advance, long actor contracts etc, this is a lot of eggs in one basket and as soon as the general population gets tired of them, that they are seen as boring or uncool or whatever, they will go the way of the western.

I recently re-watched this film again, and it still hold out pretty well. The soundtrack of this film is especially good to listen to, it fit the inspiring and touching theme of the film.
The only thing i like but also don't get is what is the demon and it's motivation, was there a reason he look like a ancient warrior ?

I just marathoned pic related at my local kïnòcenter, thought I would give my impressions w/o spoilers

PROS:
>villain is better than first movie
>visually stunning
>better characterisation and character arcs, even get some father/son feels
>higher stakes
>doesn't rely on MCU thanos interconnected shit, stands on its own similar to Doctor Strange
>"fun" movie
>better easter eggs for /co/fags than first film
>comedy is less "quippy" like avengers and more like actual comedy with setups and callbacks
>yondu is a beast
>great soundtrack, and it was utilised very well, not all songs used once and thrown away

CONS:
>A LOT of comedy, some serious situations have their tone ruined by jokes
>seriously, this is a comedy sci-fi movie, if you don't like comedic capeshit then this won't be for you
>the team is broken up for most of the movie. allows for characters to be fleshed out more, but less group chemistry
>too many baby groot "cute" scenes. the baby groot character is probably the most tiresome character

Despite enjoying it, I probably would not watch it again alone; it's the kind of film that's very entertaining in a cinema environment with people laughing at the jokes and enjoying themselves. I imagine the comedy would start to become awkward and cringey if I were to watch it alone, kinda like how a laugh track can improve sitcoms.

In summary, I would probably rate this higher than the first film because it works with characters that the previous film already worked to establish, so you already care about the characters going in, which allows the film more freedom. However, while I watched the first film a few times, I relied too heavily on the live laugh track in the cinema to enjoy the obsessive, sometimes tone-ruining comedy. It's a fun movie, worth seeing in a cinema with others, but kino it is not.

What are your predictions on what it's going to be about?

My take:
>present day
>Maverick(senior Top Gun instructor) takes on a new class of students
>one student in particular catches his eye
>It's Jamaal Freeman call sign "woke" the wise cracking ace pilot with a chip on his shoulder
>Maverick takes him under his wing after seeing him wrongfully searched by crooked white cops and teaches him some flying maneuvers(as well as what the crosswalks are for)
>things get complicated when Jamaal takes a liking to Mavericks daughter Sarah
>eventually maverick comes to terms while learning about institutional racism and how he can be racist and not even know it because he's white
>cue sex scene in hanger on top of F14 with Jamaal & Sarah while a new remix of "Take My Breath Away" done by Missy Elliott and Fall Out Boy plays in the background
>shortly after winning the Top Gun trophy and beating his rival Hans Kracker call sign "Honky", both men are quickly taken to Israel where enemy jets are targeting the world's bankers
>a quick air battle ensues with Jamaal destroying enemy aircraft with ease while saying this is for Rosa Parks, MLK, Malcolm X, etc with each kill.
>back on the flight deck a huge celebration is there to meet Jamaal with Hans running up telling him that he can be his Bull anytime
>Sarah is also there with a nervous Maverick by her side
>she tells him that she is pregnant and can't wait to start a family together
>final scene is Jamaal quickly jumping back in his jet mumbling how "it ain't his and dat Bitch probably be fuckin a bunch other niggas" flying off into the sunset with the low fuel light on

Thoughts? It's only a rough draft so I know it has room for improvement.

What the fuck is going on in mainstream cinema?

Adult people rave about children’s CGI cartoons, analyze and idolize them.

Mainstream is dominated by comic book adaptations. Reminder – comic
books were mainly kids’ entertainment.

PG13 shit all over, even horror movies.

Latest Fast & Furious is like a movie literally written by a 14yrs
old kid for 12yrs old boys.

Everything tentpole is trivial, childish and lacks any thematical depth.

Is it what’s left from our society? Hordes of simple minded drones
craving for easy to digest flashy stories?

Big, mainstream tentpole movies from 80s or 90s while still far from
high culture were far more interesting for intelligent human being,
they were entertaining for thinking person while carrying at least
some depth or thematic value.
