I've never understood this post. It implies Spielberg was saying World War 2 wasn't completely black and white but every other German soldier in the film is portrayed as being pure evil. This one thing is the only time he put some nuance in the film and 99% of the audience didn't even notice it.

The Americans sure do a lot of POW-executing in this film.
