Confession: I hate “Game of Thrones” and I honestly cannot fathom why anyone watches it. After listening to people drone on and on about this violent series, I finally got around to renting it on Netflix. Here’s a quick question, on what planet is rape, forced marriage, and child murder entertainment? Just curious.

I must be in the minority though because “Game of Thrones” is so damn popular that it displaced the traffic of Pornhub during its recent premiere. That must have been one helluva personal choice, “Hmm should I watch some porn or should I order a pizza and watch some medieval rape scenes while dudes run around killing each other?”

And just when I thought TV couldn’t get any trashier, along comes a new show by the GOT producer’s David Benioff and D.B. Weiss called “Confederate“, which according to the press release “chronicles the events leading to the Third American Civil War. The series takes place in an alternate timeline, where the South has successfully seceded from the Union, giving rise to a nation in which slavery is legal and has evolved into a modern institution.”

Is this a damn joke? In the era of Black Lives Matter and Donald Trump, who in their right mind thought it would be a smart idea to air a show in which two white dudes get to reimagine the Civil War and turn slavery into a legal “modern institution”?

I’m not the only one offended and dismayed by this ridiculous show idea.

Writing for the Daily Beats, Ira Madison points out that “Even if we ignore the fact that this sounds a hell of a lot like the present - Klan membership and hate crimes in America are on the rise, the prison industrial complex is basically the government’s substitute for slavery, and Bo, Luke, and Daisy Duke are far from the only ones repping the Confederate flag - white people love to imagine a world where ‘the Confederacy won.'”

Hank HIll is objectively a garbage friend. He knew of his best friend was being cheated on for 13 years and said nothing like a coward. His other best friend Bill suffers from loneliness and depression and he does nothing unless he absolutely has to. When John Redcorn needed a shoulder to cry on his first instinct was to leave the car and abandon him as usual.

Childhood is idolizing Hank, adulthood is realizing Peggy is superior in every way.

It doesn't have to be "good" per se, just something thick with pure undiluted 80's'ness. That just gives a high dose of those nostalgia vibes. Prefer lesser known quantities, but really whatever comes to mind.

Overall a competent movie, but with two glaring issues:
>All three parts - land, sea, and air - would've benefited from a linear storytelling, instead of your typical Bravo Nolan nonlinear mind fuck
>Air and sea had the potential to be have good characters, but Nolan decided to avoid all characters, which only ruined the boy's death, as an example. I would've liked to know Tom Hardy's character a lot more
>Not sure why Hollywood, as of late, is slowly switching to no exposition at all when minor exposition can work. See Memento as a solid way of inserting exposition. In Dunkirk, it's jarring when Nolan jumps from one scene to the next without any hint of what's to come or what the characters feel.

Overall I r8 Bravo/10
