Is "fun" a legitimate film criticism ?
the critic mode is bad and critics are bad
there are only creators. critics are talentless and such have no right to say anything about the work of the gifted.
>>86131642
In criticizing critics you become a critic yourself.
Look at Jason. This is another girl he knows would hate him. He attacks her and calls her ugly, just like an angry little autistic shit with no life.
He's the most pathetic cunt in the world.
>The show seems calculated to repel you. Xavier's backstory should be funny for anyone who's ever wandered through a New Age bookstore. So why isn't it? At this point in Adult Swim's history, aren't the discomfort and fractured comic rhythms part of the fun? Or can comedy become too awkward and disorienting for its own good?
>I've watched this episode four times now, and can't figure out if it's simply too strange for some tastes, or simply dumb and unfunny. It's got all the runaway sadism and mockery of Wonder Showzen. In fact, it's smothered in them. But what's missing, and who's to say that comic innovation can, at some point, kill the laughs? All I know is what's carried me through Adult Swim's evolution so far: the familiarity that rests under the eccentricities of Awesome Show, Tom Goes To The Mayor, Sealab 2021, Aqua Teen Hunger Force, Frisky Dingo, Metalocalypse, etc. It's not necessarily why those shows are funny, just what helps people stay engaged. The well-meaning wimp Tom Peters just might fit into our world, and Xavier doesn't fit anywhere (that's kind of the point so far). It wouldn't surprise me if Lee and Chatman had said, "Let's create the least relatable character ever."
>Ricky Gervais says that comedy's built on empathy–"you've gotta like something about everyone, really"–and as dumb as it is to make rules for art, I'm pretty much willing to adopt that as a standard. Xavier seems determined to violate it. Thanks in part to the Nintendo 64-caliber animation, Xavier's as flat and expressionless as the ignorant hicks he runs up against, can't reach us emotionally, and generally helps the show destroy itself. There's not much to do but gawk at him, which gets old once you've picked up on his catchphrases (expect to see "Chomsky-honk" and "Ooh! Frittata!" popping up on a lot of nerdy message boards this season).
They're right, y'know. Even after all these years.

Yeah I can't figure out why people are memeing Xavier. It's a fairly weak effort from some otherwise very funny guys. Is the incessant posting ironic?
Nobody's going to take the bait on this one.
>>86131643
>Is the incessant posting ironic?
It's just the latest product of /tv/'s rampant contrarianism. Find some poorly-received show from 10 years ago no one cares about and pretend it's a misunderstood masterpiece.
Interstellar had the music
The Martian for the survival and human touch.
Gravity for being a thriller.
Which one would you say was the best?
>>86131306
They were all boring for one reason or another. I pick Interstellar because at least I can sleep to McConaughey's voice.
Gravity>Interstellar>The Martian
>>86131366
How in the fuck do people even like gravity and put it over the martian and intersteller? Some women trapped in space and lands back on Earth is boring as shit. The whole time I was expecting a thriller but felt subdued.
Don't tell me you put it over those two movies because we had a decent looking bitch paraded around the whole movie and the panty scene. Give me a fucking break.
>super secret special ops commando
>becomes a detective
what the fuck was he thinking?

Alot of former military dudes go into police work after they discharge. I guess since they know they can handle being in high stress/danger situations. Plus if you have a military background without a criminal record you are as good as hired the minute you apply.

I thought it was neat as fuck. It made me feel. I think it's worth a watch, but it might not be your cuppa tea. I personally like it, though.
It's even better with a date. ;)
Not really. It feels pretty juvenile.
