>This film and The Meyerowitz Stories (New and Selected) (2017) generated some controversy after being selected for the competition line-up of the 2017 Cannes Film Festival, due to the fact that, as Netflix productions, they wouldn't receive a theatrical release in France after the festival. Netflix did try to make a deal with French distributors and cinema chains for a limited release prior to the streaming premiere, but this was hindered by very strict French laws which prevent any film that's released in cinemas from being available on a streaming service prior to 36 months after the original theatrical release date. Although both films were retained in the competition line-up, the festival did respond to the controversy by amending its rules, specifying that, starting with the 2018 edition, all filmmakers and producers submitting their work for consideration for the competition must be committed to obtaining regular theatrical distribution in France.

Has it ever been explained why the seventh best character in a show with hundreds of named characters was cut from the show?

I heard that the only major disagreement Gurm had with DnD was cutting her from the show.

Too dark? Not enough obvious good vs. obvious bad? Too 'magical' but Arya wiping out House Frey solo was totally in the realm of possibility?

I don't get it. Was Fairley a cunt or something? By no barometric do I see the introduction of LSH as anything but a giant plus.

Explain please...

Could someone explain to me why this is considered one of Kurosawa's greatest films? I honestly don't see the appeal. Don't get me wrong, the acting, scenery, etc. are great but not significantly better than the rest of his films. And the story has little drama; the monk spergs out because, what, people lie to make themselves look better? Is that supposed to be some sort of revelation? And of course there's this whole mystery around it where apparently even the actors wanted to know which story was true, but it's obvious that ~~the woodcutter's story was true, since he was the only one with no incentive to lie (except about the knife).~~ I didn't think it was a bad film, but I really don't see what puts it above something like Throne of Blood or High and Low.

One more thing, ~~the baby was extremely forced, it's like Kurosawa was worried the audience might take a slightly negative view of humanity and had to thrown it in last minute.~~

Fuck that shit, I spill my drink and if I'm in a cheap place, with those shitty S&P shakers with the plastic bottom, I spin a quarter on the table, slam the shaker on top of it.
