What are some of the items you always have in your backpack when traveling?
Its basically this. It has a waterproof back to stop sweat getting stuff wet and I put my passport and credit card in it. You can wear it flat under your shirt so its not visible, its great to avoid pickpocketing.
I keep a wallet with day to day cash in it.

I will see your day wallet, and raise you a dummy wallet for traveling in Africa. It has the cash I need for the day in it, in addition to various expired or irrelevant cards. If I get mugged or pick pocketed, the thief will think they have the real thing until they look at it carefully and realize they have expired visa cards and Swedish hotel loyalty cards.
Never know when you'll need to make a quick repair

From what I remember, once people realized what was going on, he wasn't able to do more than stick a few people in their arms. The ones who died were the first few who were attacked while half asleep in their seats or facebooking on their cellphones.
Sounds dumb, but its an all-in-one device that can do pretty much everything with a 4 inch screen.
Even without a sim card, or even without wifi.
In this day and age, its just too useful to do without.
