Not really, hated, but did have one trip to Sannibel in Florida that followed close on a storm that left a lot of dead shellfish and such on the beach, which smelled horrible and took beach-time out of the equation.

So my impression of the island is unfavorable, but not really fairly.

Pic semi related, I have no idea why I saved it but it popped up when I searched for "shell" in my 4chan folder.

Mainland China.

It has a beautiful history, but decades of communism and development made it so fucking dull. They bulldozer everything and their cities are just an endless alignment of ugly towers. It has no character whatsoever.

Countryside / traditional China is awesome, but modern China is pretty much the worst / least exciting place I've visited. It makes me sad that they do this to their amazing country and culture, there are other ways to develop than by destroying your culture and losing your soul.
>>
>>862176
India is shitty. I didn't see the appeal of a large, disgusting, stinky city full of people trying to rip me off.

I didn't visit the countryside that much since my travel buddy was a faggot who was scared of leaving civilization, I still managed to see Pingyao though. I made a lot of research on rural places and would love to visit some time.

I actually enjoyed Shanghai, it feels more like a real, developed city with culture, rather than an endless alignment of cheap high rise. People were warmer than in West / North China as well.

Picture related, some guys who invited me at their table while I was exploring some old area that was to be demolished. It was their last days there before being evicted, the are would become a mall or something. Because, you know, fuck history.

Well yes, they are actually. The local culture / folklore is much more alive and in any developed country.

Go to any Europpean city center and you'll see the exact same stuff: H&M, Mc Donald's, Body Shop, Zara, kebab shops and so on. If you're lucky, some local architecture will have survived the industrial revolution and second world war in a small historic center that has been converted in tourist disneyland, where nobody actually living there anymore (think of Amsterdam, Prague, Venice, etc...), the rest will look pretty much the same anywhere.

India might be shit, dirty and stinky, but it's an amazing experience that radically different from what you can see in developed countries. People still live pretty much the same way they lived centuries ago, informal economy is everywhere. If you can't be amazed by that, well yeah, stay in your boring Scandinavian cities.
>>
>>862365

I traveled along the Mediterranean coast of Turkey once, I started in Bodrum and ended in Gaziantep. The absolute worst places are the cities where mass tourism has completely destroyed ruined everything. I especially disliked Kemer, Alanya and Side.
Low quality food, overcrowded, poor water quality, inflation of luxury hotels that ruin the local economy because the guests do not eat in the city, only in the restaurant are all common among these three cities. I don't care if people visit, but I sure won't go back to either of those three. That said, the smaller cities with fewer tourists on the Mediterranean Turkish coast are quite nice

I share sentiment with this guy. India has been the worst place I've visited (Although I'm very glad I went once and saw the cool shit).

I went to New Delhi, Agra, Patna, Bhodi tree, Mumbai, and Bangalore.

The sites and architecture is really cool. I found the rest to be the unenjoyable type of shitty. Different from "cool African village" shitty.

People aren't very nice, and instead treat you so overbearingly nice with this uncomfortable bullshit forced servant complex.

I hate spicy things. Many things are spicy there. Many vegetarian options though.

SO MANY FUCKING PEOPLE. It's certainly no NYC. I've never been to Tokyo so I can't really say if they are comparable people-density wise.

It takes fucking forever to get anywhere, whether walking or biking or driving or on public transport. Traffic and driving is pants-on-head ridiculous.

Dirty (i guess)

Mosquitoes. Huge, prevalent clouds of mosquitoes (malaria).

Seeing really really poor people who are basically forced into certain lifestyles by the caste system makes me feel really bad.

High religious tension between Muslims and Hindus.

No one tried to swindle me out of money, which was a first.

Anyways, unless India is your goddamn thing, go see Delhi, Agra, Bodhi tree, and this cool shit in Mysore and GTFO. Wouldn't even bother with Mumbai.

Transnistria is whack. One of the coolest places I've been to. You should really give it a try.
>>
>>862724
How was it in Transnistria? What makes it cool?

I wanted to go since a long time, but I've heard passing the border is a nightmare.
>>
>>862731
Transnistria is its own little bubble. It's like a Russian version of Moldova. Strangely enough it's cleaner and wealthier than Moldova. There's not much to see or do but just being there is cool because of the different atmosphere. Food and drinks are super-cheap, so you can get wasted for pocket change. Tiraspol (the capital) is really safe, you have nothing to worry about.

I've read mixed stuff about the border crossing, but I never had any trouble. I took a bus from Chisinau to Tiraspol and they helped me fill out the form on the bus already. At the border, the locals just waved their cards/passports, while I was the lone foreigner who had to go to the office. They just filled some paperwork and stamped my form after 2-3 minutes. Going back out, they just collected my form.
>>
>>862734
Cool. So, did you just head there by yourself, or did you know people? What did you do there, and how long did you stay?
>>
>>862735
I stayed only for a day. It used to be that you could only stay 24 hours (I think) and any longer would be more difficult. Though I met people in the hostel that were staying for far longer, apparently in practice no one gives a fuck as to how long you stay. I'm thinking of going again for September 2, because that's their independence day and they have Soviet style military parades.

I didn't know anyone, I only contacted the "only hostel in Transnistria" and stayed there. It's just a house owned by Tim, an American expat. He gave me the directions and help I needed and picked me up at the Tiraspol bus station. I paid 15eur for the night.

Well Frankfurt is Germany's shithole, everyone knows that. No one actually likes Frankfurt, they just pretend to since the main airport hub is there. And I can't remember much of Koln other than really digging the main church, so I can't tell you much about that. Honestly, I prefer the small towns of Germany so much more than the big cities. Yeah the people tend to me more gossipy and closed off, but once you get to know them it's fucking amazing and so beautiful. (I also prefer South Germany to the North though)

And I think my least favourite place so far has been Croatia. It got so fucking hyped up by EVERYONE I know with them saying shit like how cheap it was and how beautiful it was, but honestly it wasn't that great. It was surprisingly expensive, yeah the country was pretty but you can see that in a lot of other places. Plus it was depressing as shit to see all those beautiful houses in complete ruins. But in their favour, Croatians are some of the friendliest people I've met with a language barrier. They had the warmth of the Mediterranean folk, but have the standoffishness of the Slavs which make them friendly but not up in your business friendly.
I'm half Swedish
>>862367
+1

It's about appreciating places for what they ARE, not what they are not. Indian streets are dirty, but 'streets should be clean' is a Western obsession. Step into an Indian housewifes home and you'll be forced to put on slippers and given death stares for dropping crumbs on the oft-sweeped floor. I found Indians overall more genuinely friendly than westerners BY FAR. You learn pretty quick when it's just a snivelling toutish kind of friendliness by someone who just wants your money. But honestly, those represented less than 10% of anyone who ever started to talk to me. So much of it is really a sort of naive, curious, innocent, shy friendliness it's kinda charming.

For me, only places I didn't really like were

1) Rome. OK, the history and food are top notch (and I mean, Rome isn't even the best for food in Italy, but it's still very good.) It's just kind of an ugly city as far as modern infrastructure goes, and I find most people to be such rude pushy cunts

2) Egypt. Been there, done that. History, OK cool, and food was better than expected. Not 100% of everyone is a greedy tout, but pretty close to it. Worst place in Egypt would be Sharm el-Sheik. God I hate that place. Would napalm.
>>

>Not really, hated, but did have one trip to Sannibel in Florida that followed close on a storm that left a lot of dead shellfish and such on the beach, which smelled horrible and took beach-time out of the equation.
Umm, seaweed, sargassum, kelp and such does smell like sealife. If that bothers you, you probably go to beaches that have morning cleanup crews remove it daily (not that it's natural or anything like that, it's just that people imagine beaches look only like postcards). Not liking Sanibel is like not liking leaving your bedroom. Not liking Sanibel after a storm when it's known to be the best shell hunting in the world? It screams something is kind of wrong with ya. Vampire? Computer addict? Fear of sharks?

>After 3 days in Dubai I had seen every single thing the city had to offer. I was there for 3 months. I never intend to go back to that culturleess desert
This. Dubai is something to see only if you want to know what people can do with free slavery in concentration camps, borrowed money that you don't intend to ever repay and a handful of expat architects. But, the population of the entire city is construction company expats who have to have 1 or 2 token natives on the payroll who they can't fire. There is no culture. They destroyed and wrecked the water supply, the coral reefs and the sealife beach community with seawalls and poor planning. I wouldn't drop $15 in landing fees to this country by connecting through their shit country. And, forget safety. You might as well be in Cuba if you think you can't get in irreparable legal trouble for no reason at all for offending a local or breaking a muslim law. If you travel with a female, and you stop here, you're stupid.

What you need to realize (and everyone ITT) is that visiting a place and living in a place are very different.

Frankfurt is a shit city to visit, it only has the airport and a few minor sites of interest. I don't really like it either (I'm a Germanfag). But that said, I've visited with friends from the area and it's a different story. Not so bad when you know people and where to go. Frankfurt is no one real 'central' Go-To Nightlife spot, which kinda sucks 'cause if you're a clueless visitor that makes it easy. Also, the countryside around Frankfurt is some of the prettiest in the country, IMO. Wine hills and old castles everywhere, it's quite charming.

I think Köln is similar to Frankfurt in a way, but it is actually a nice city to visit if you know where to go. It's not my favourite city, but it's quite OK to live in -- I did for a few years.

>>862624
I know those feels. Paris can be hell or bliss I guess, depending on your experiences. I avoided it for ages as I thought I wouldn't like it. While it's true it's very touristy in parts, that's pretty much just the very centre of the historic city centre. Very easy to get off the main tourist trail and have a nice time. People were not rude pricks like I was warned, I found them quite helpful

It's too expensive and crowded for me to want to live there, but it's an excellent city to visit.

>I'll only have a day and a half to be a tourist, and I plan spending it all at the Smithsonians.
Two days isn't enough, of course, but you can always go back :)
The smithsonians are all great, and if you research a bit about the exhibitions, you can pack 3-4 within a day of favorite things within it, but wear your marathon walking shoes and pack some water. You could just as easily rush through 1 museum trying to finish it and you won't. They are huge. The best air/space is out by Dulles. But, don't overlook some of the independents like Spy, Crime and punishment, newseum, etc. I could recommend my 5 favorites in D.C, but your best bet is to get onto Washingtonian magazines website, and look for favorites. Also, gotta realize D.C. is a foodie destination, and truly the most diverse city in the country, so if there is a single facet of international cuisine you have been dying to try, you'll find it there, and done well. You'll also see a high amount of farm to table, vegetarian haute cuisine, and delicious beef lovers steakhouses and burger joints. A lot of food trucks with twitter followers, and great healthy food. The fittest city (all those military people working out everywhere). It's got a few of the highest per capita income towns, too, so there's all levels of dining. I can make recommendations by neighborhood, my favorite being the clarendon metro for 15 faves (none of them chains). Just look for something convenient to your day online. Also, I do recommend, at night, finding something with a nice view to get a drink or dine. Top of the 'W' gets you above the White House grounds. Georgetown and Arlington have places with potomac views, and the lighted monuments and some are ridiculously beautiful at sunset right into evening.

So many faggots come from the boonies and live in Berlin, and look down on the Rest of Germany that most of the time IME they've never even visited much. It's typical in a way, but a wholly unnecessary arrogance. Of course, there are shit or boring cities in every country, and Germany is no exception, but there are still several other places that IMHO, are better to live in long-term than Berlin.

I love visiting Berlin, sometimes, but would never live there. You don't know what you're missing elsewhere. Berlin is not really Germany, it's just a big city where they happen to speak German. Sure, there's a lot to do, and it's got that pretentious hipster coolness to it. People are generally not that friendly, and it's overall rather ugly and dirty.

I have a friend who moved to 'Germany' (Berlin) 4 years ago. She's never been anywhere else in the rest of Germany that entire time, except once to visit a temporary boyfriend's hometown for a weekend. It's kind of sad, because she is so obviously ignorant of a lot of wider 'German culture' and sites, and this country has tonnes to offer, each region is quite diverse... but she'd never know. She's also rather insulated by other foreign students, so while she does have German friends, and her German is very good, she's pretty much in an expat bubble most of the time. That's but one anecdotal bit of evidence, but it applies to many people I know who live(d) in Berlin. Including native-born Berliners. One of my best friends comes from Lichtenberg but moved out for uni, and he says much the same thing. Nostalgia for friends and family aside, he always saying how he'd never want to live there again.

I thoroughly disliked Manila. By far the worst capital city in East Asia and seemingly irreparable (the old joke about an atomic bomb doing £15 worth of damage seeming apt). None of the Buddhist charm or culinary tradition of other East Asian countries; felt genuinely unsafe to walk around; overall made Bangkok seem like Vienna.
Only plus was I got laid with a very hot Filipina. Too drunk to perform/remember though, so..

I was surprised at how "Meh" Dubai is, to the extent I can't even bring myself to hate it. An architectural zoo of competing skyscrapers, shopping malls, wide roads, with no culture or action to speak of inbetween. Lots of equally detestable tourists and businesspeople with 5 star pockets and 1 star taste. Their plan is to turn it into a place that will be self-sufficient after the oil money has run out - I don't think they'll succeed (except, perhaps, by making it a tax haven).
Basically Dubai is the next tier after Ibiza and Lanzarote. IE only people who are impressed by THOSE places could possibly be fooled into thinking it is great and exotic.
>>
>>862968
But, certainly the amount of debauchery in Ibiza would never happen in Dubai. This is not a good comparison. It's more like a shopping mall on the skids. That weird little ghost town feeling, where you know at the tiniest economic downturn, it's all vacant apartments and stores, in a post apocalypse sort of way.

I wasn't directly comparing Ibiza and Dubai; I was suggesting that the kind of people (alright: working class people) who tend to go to Ibiza and Lanzarote and Aya Napa might take a slightly more expensive easyjet flight for once and go to Dubai, and think that it's brilliant and oh-so-exotic, because they've never been to East Asia or South America.

Ontario, Canada.

I lived there for 3 years. How can I sum it up best.... An utter non-place. Seriously. It is the total absence of culture, geography, and adventure for the most part. Toronto will elicit a shrug from anyone who has spent time in other major world cities and the other ON cities are write-offs (I had the misfortune of being in Ottawa, which is arguably the nicest and most interesting after TO).

The nature is better than what's immediately south of the border in the USA or in the Canadian prairies but still 3/10 compared to the western parts of North America.

...and the culture, lol.

Alberta has the mountains and shit, though a lot of the people were rather hickish and 'provincial' (jealous country rubes). I liked both places, though I wouldn't live in either forever. I found people very nice in both places, as well as the landscapes. In Ontario, there's forests and lakes and stuff, reminded me a lot of Scandinavia. I just find the butthurt on /trv/ so exaggerated...

Mexico City was great for about 4 days. Then I needed to get the fuck out. Anyplace that isn't centro historico or main sights is either as soulless as any generic western city or pretty much a shittier, smellier, more crowded version of your typical Mexican enclave in the US. So true about Beijing. China is one of the greatest culture / civilization in history, what they're doing to it is so sad.

Even the great wall, at least the part closest to Beijing where all the tourist go, is 95% reconstructed and has nothing original. Not that it matters anyway, because it's so crowded you can barely see the wall under the tourists.

>People aren't very nice
This is subjective, but I found people to be nice, open, genuinely curious. You have to filter out the touts and beggars, obv, but even then.

> hate spicy things. Many things are spicy there.
Yes, but it's a cliché that all Indian food is spicy. Lots of Indian people don't like much spice either, and it's not hard at all to eat non-spicy food. You obviously didn't know what to order. Also, the north is generally not known for 'spicy' food, so your tongue would have exploded if you actually went to Tamil Nadu or somewhere.

>It takes fucking forever to get anywhere,

> Dirty
Outside, yea. Inside homes are spotless neurotically clean. That is the Indian way. Who cares about outside, right?...

>Seeing really really poor people who are basically forced into certain lifestyles by the caste system makes me feel really bad
Shit's real. India has huge rural and uneducated peasant swarms. May be that it doesn't help their socio-religious teachings (Hinduism, Jain, Buddhism, etc) teach that one should generally accept their lot in life, no need to change since you'll have a next life if you're good. I think this developed, along with the caste system, over thousands of years as a less-violent way to deal with inequality and competition of resources.

>High religious tension between Muslims and Hindus.
This affects you... how? Are you Hindu or Muslim? It tends to be chauvinist Hindu-supremacists that are the biggest problem.

You can stay for several days, but then you must register at the local immigration office (lel) and you have to go through some sovietish bureaucratic shit. Stayed for 3 weeks in Transnistria, mostly in ribnitsa, Bender and a day in Tiraspol. I totally agree with anon, Transnistria is way cooler than Moldova, first off all due to its rareness and communist look, also because its a mafia state, but its also cleaner and nicer than Moldova, mostly because like 75% of moldovas resources were in the area in what is now Transnistria :^)

Japanese girls are much cooler and open minded about this than Koreans, though. Mediterranean or black guy scan still get laid in Japan. Not so much Korea.

For a Real Traveller, I can see when you visited Amsterdam, you only went to the tourist traps and weren't very good at even that.

For fucks' sake man, if you go beyond De Dam (like, a street beyond that) and look UP, above the shops, you might notice a shitload of appartments. Walk a block or two and you'll get to the canals (Herengracht, Prinsengracht, etc.) and those are all inhabited by normal people. Evidently, the close you get to the popular parts of town, the more expensive the houses get, but they're still inhabited by normal people.

Amsterdam is jam-packed with regular residents. You might've noticed them too. They're the ones on the bikes breaking all the traffic laws.

'Didn't see 'em!'

Yeah Real Traveller, spend less time in the coffee shops and at the Wallen and more travelling. I'm pretty sure you skipped all the big name museums too, cause they're 'too Westernized and mainstream', huh?

Wouldn't want to see the Rijksmuseum and look at a bunch of classical works of art, oozing with Dutch culture and history. Mainstream bastards, right?

>>
>>862985
I get what you mean, now. This is obviously the type that raves or dreams about it. I do imagine there was a 2-3 years of fun expat glory days there almost like an old dutch or british empire kind of expat days of old, but that's over. And, I still find it lacking in all moral turpitude to give a country with slavery in homes, and in work camps a single piece of your state's currency in order to see some foreign built buildings.
>>
>>864670
Oh geesh, why would you stay in a hostel in Mexico City? Hotels are quite a bit less expensive on a global scale. When you stay in the cheapest hovel in a hovel, things will be bad.

I love Mexico City, gotta realize it's 4 times the size of NYC and find your neighborhoods and have fun. You'd need about 3 days to finish the museums in Chapultepec. 4 days is nothing.

But, I can understand the air quality making you have enough. Locals get out of town on the weekends and more so when it isn't rainy season.
>>
>>865164
>Having read a lot on Venice, spoken to people living there, and been there myself... you're wrong.
Not that guy, but it's pretty common knowledge that Venice has a declining population. That few locals of the region can continue to live there in their family homes and even fewer move in because of declining industry. The visitors are primarily day trippers on cruise ships, and it's a ghost town at night, missing the staycation people in the restaurants to any great degree. The building upkeep is too cost prohibitive A city that had as much as 200k people is down to 50k. There may be even tourism reasons for them to leave. It's like 60k now, which is within their capacity on the streets all at once, but could increase. Go now while you can. If the cruise ships don't get some limit soon, and the tourists keep outnumbering the locals, it might get worse. Imagine the past when all your tourists filled the hotels, and when the rooms were full, your city was full with a manageable number cap.
>>
>>865164

The second place I stayed was about a block from the zocalo and actually cheaper than the first place (with less beds in the dorms) at $13 and in a nice clean colonial house. Not a party place (no noise past midnight) but I'm not really a party person usually.

I really enjoyed the centro historico and Coyacan and the museums were great (went to the national art museum and the anthropology museum and la caza azul) but the city just put me off. Too many people, too cloudy and rainy, too dirty. The people weren't really very friendly and I didn't feel safe enough to venture out and wander at night, considering what's safe place and what isn't a safe place can be hard to tell. Hell, last day I was there I wandered into Tepito for a bit before realizing it.

Visit Three: Singapore to Muluka then a bus from there to Thailand.
Visit Four: Singapore up the center of the country to Thailand.

Then I've been to Kota Bharu a bunch of times and since posting this I made a very quick pass through Perlis State, which was kind of pleasant as I was only there for a few hours.

There is a certain joyful feeling that I found in Both Thailand and Indonesia, but I just never found that in Malaysia. Sure it is not as bad as some shithole in Africa, but compared to its neighbors its no more than a giant void.

Thanks for the link I'll watch it. I've missed Maluka , KL and Penang, which I am sure are the best parts of the peninsula, and maybe its my lose, but I just have zero desire to return there.
>>
>>866224
>I just have zero desire to return there

Yeah, I can understand after going there four times already. Malacca is cool but it's really small. KL is definitely more exciting and than Singapore, but still relatively soulless with loads of huge ass shopping malls etc. I'd say Penang is by far the most interesting place in peninsular Malaysia. Dat pre-Communism Chinese culture, dat history, dat food. One of my favorite places in SE Asia for sure.

Personally I love Malaysia, but I understand why a lot of people don't really care for it.
>>
I didn't HATE Nice, but I didn't really like it much. Maybe I'd just built it up in my mind as this chill seaside town. Instead it was a pretty busy city that happened to be by the ocean. Oh well.
>>
I enjoyed Malaysia but I would sum it up as a 'family friendly version of Thailand'. Kuala Lumpur was pretty cool and I'd recommend it - on the caveat that you don't go for more than a week (or even 3 nights) and don't go twice.

I was surprised how Islamic and conservative Malaysia felt. Tourist advertisements tend to emphasise Buddhist-Chinesey imagery, so that's what I was expecting (or 50/50, in this multicultural society). In reality it feels more like central/south Asia than southeast Asia. My opinion of Malaysia, same as the Philippines, is I'd only go again if I wanted an isolated 5-star hotel experience with a wife/girlfriend. For a single man Thailand and Vietnam are way, way more thrilling.
>>
>>866319
of course they can't advertise the fact that they're 60% muslim in malaysia. They want to advertise that it's safe, not that they'' run into an ied on the way to the mall.

I haven't hated anywhere I have visited but there are certainly places I do not wish to ever visit again. I always enjoy going to a new place even it turns out to be shit, at least that way you "know" what its like at some level and have experienced it.
I would not visit these places again:

>Istanbul
Great historical stuff, the food is pretty good (I know some guide books say its average but nothing was bland or boring and it was all cooked competently), I really disliked the hard sell every damn shopkeeper and hustler does, idk why the fuck they do it, it always put me off buying whatever I was looking at. Also anyone who was more hardcore muslim was really unpleasent, they would shoot you death stares or look at you like you were a piece of shit. I mean I was just a normal guy in normalfag clothing not bothering anyone, those types of people need to learn some manners.

>Pakistan
A bit too edgy for me, there was almost daily car bombs going on when I went to Lahore. The locals are nice, but there is this sort of anxious atmosphere there which really puts a damper on things. I also contracted something from the water/food there and nearly died, had to be hospitalized for awhile, so obviously that's a negative too.

>>862707

I spent a week in Moldova, its not a bad country, I mean obviously its poor and not much to see there but to visit for a week its fine. Transnistria is really interesting to visit too if you have any interest in commie history or isolated communities.

I find it hard to believe you had such a 'hard' time in Istanbul. I did a 3 month backpacking thing across the Middle East some years ago, with Istanbul being the final destination. It was a breath of fresh relaxed air. Istanbul is easy mode, or you're a huge pussy. Never step foot in Egypt or Morocco, 'cause you'll be eaten alive.

You have to know how to deal (ignore) bazaar haggling, especially with guys who get busloads of naive Russian and rich Scandinavian tourists every day. I actually found Istanbul pretty hard to haggle in, they would offer one price (ridiculous) and not budge, or refuse to haggle at all and keep pointing at their inflated fixed price.

Overall I like Istanbul, a lot. Among the top 10 best cities in world, IMO. But, milage varies I guess.
>>
>>866387

I like Islamic culture, I just don't like people who are rude. I didn't have anyone acting so rude to me in Pakistan and that's about as Islamic as you can get. The problem with Pakistan was the warfare aspect, not the Muslim aspect.

>>866639

I didn't say it was hard, I just didn't like the aggressive sell. I know there's other countries where they are even more pushy, but I can still dislike it at any level. Same for complaining about the rudeness, it was only a minority but visible enough.
>>
>>866442
Maybe Namur is an exception. Go to Brussels out of the center, or areas around Dour, and you feel in Russia.
>>
>>866656
I've been to Moscow and Brussels both more than once (Dutchfag here), and this is still plain retarded hyperbole. Moscow is a legit shithole apart from the few playgrounds for the uber-rich. Brussels really isn't that bad. There are some shitty parts with Arabs and Africans, or working-class poor people, but I've never been shocked or anything (slightly tense maybe, but not actually surprised...

IME, for Western Europe, you can find the worse 'enriched' slums in Italy.
>>
>>866649
I like Islamic culture too, to an extent, but then I am always travelling solo (or at least single) and the chance of some lady action is always a major factor. As soon as you step into Malaysia or Indonesia, by comparison to Thailand or Vietnam, it suddenly feels like you're in a place where getting laid seems highly unlikely.

I'm not sure what Turkey is like in that respect. I'd assume one of the easier Islamic countries, but still not easy.
>>
>>866738
In Istanbul, you can definitely pull if you put in the time and effort. Girls tend to go out with male friends and relatives, so you can bet there will be some cockblocking. One night stands are rarer, but do happen. Of course it depends on the 'scene' you hang out it. Punk, rock/grunge, art students, those sorts of girls are just like in Europe (and there are a lot of 'em. For 'normal' girls, you'll usually need to go on a few dates first -- old fashioned, eh?

This is somewhat still true in Ankara as well (though Ankara sucks). Also along the (Aegean) coast, in the bigger towns, you might get lucky as they tend to be a bit more relaxed as well... Everywhere else, you can pretty much forget it, and better to avoid so you don't have her brother and father slicing your nuts off before donating your severed head to Allah.

I hated Paris, i found it to be dirty and unfriendly.
For the life of me i cannot understand how it came to be known as the city of romance.

Beggars and gypsies everywhere, graffiti, unfriendly cafe and restaurant service and terribly overpriced.

One thing that sticks out the most is that i walked into a bar to get out of the pouring rain, asked how much it would cost for a beer, waiter said 7 euros, so i said id just have a lemonade instead then, then he said thats 8 euros. Decided i rather just go stand in the rain...

DC fag here.

>>862793
Gives solid advice. For food, I'd recommend checking out stuff in the Columbia Heights area (where I used to live). There's tons of small local places in between 10th and 16th streets, spanning from downtown (K street) up to Iriving street. Lots of good Mexican places with cheap happy hour deals.

That's too short, but it'll be okay. Most of the museums and stuff you could knock out in 2-3 days unless you rush through them. I really think the best thing to see though is the US Capitol. Even though I'm a DC local (grew up here), I never actually went inside the Capitol until a couple weeks ago with an out of town friend. The tour is free, but it's a good idea to book in advance. If you just show up, you're not guaranteed a spot.

The thing about Paris is that representations suggest it will be quaint, idyllic, quintessentially 19th century city. By contrast many representations of London portray a dark and smoky, Mary Poppins sort-of place. In reality there is not very much between the two in terms of greenery and cleanliness. End result is people leave London surprised at how pleasantly green and bright it is, but leave Paris depressed that it didn't meet the idyllic expectations.

I don't understand what people see in Stockholm. It was very boring, typical western europe city (except wasa-museum). Helsinki was way better. great mix of western, eastern and Finnish cultures which made it very interesting
>>
>>867150
7€? Welcome to the first world, cheapskate. It's Paris, and that's about the standard price for a beer in a non-student bar. 'Lemonade' is a bit exotic, and juices and mixes and shit like that are also often about that price, especially in Paris. In bars and bistros and shit, you pay for the location and ambiance as well as the actual food/drinks. That's

Kinda your own fault for holding it up to impossible standards. You ain't in Kansas anymore.

Gypsies and touts really only lurk around tourist spots, which are mostly contained to the downtown core and a few other hot-spots. Beggars, well, it's a big city, all big cities are a magnet for mentally unwell street-people.

I don't find Paris particularly romantic, but it is great city with lots of history, beautiful buildings, lots to do, lots going on, great food. Yes, it's a bit expensive, and I wouldn't want to live there myself, but I'd visit any time. It's a big city, so you know what to expect from the people. Some are too busy for you, but that's how it goes. I actually find the 'everyone's rude' thing to be a massively overblown cliché. I have met and talked to plenty of friendly people in Paris. For comparison, I found Barcelona and Rome far far worse for rudeness.

How long did you stay for?
>>
>>867164
End result is people are idiots. Naw but I mean, who really think that way? If you didn't find any 'idyllic' Paris, ya did it totally wrong.

>>
>>867204
>not wanting to pay 7€ for a pint of Corona-tier beer

That's not being a cheapskate, that's being smart enough to not fall for Parisian tourist traps.
>>
>>867213
Nope, doesn't matter if it's a touristy bar or not. At any typical bar with even a bit of pretension at 'ambience', in central Paris, a 40/50cl of kronenbourg for example is about 5-7€. That's more expensive than it should be, I agree, and for shit beer at that, but that's how it goes. It's because it's Paris and shit's expensive, not because they're trying to rip YOU off personally.

If you actually spent more time in Paris, you'd realize what typical prices are where, and why.

You don't go to Norway and cry about super-expensive McDs, or that they made you buy a packet of mayo. You're not at home, suck it up.

I like canada, but Quebecois are almost uniformly assholes to anyone that doesnt speak french, including other canadians. It is really hard to enjoy a place when everyone there is almost going out of their way to be rude.

I was there for about 5 days to see an old friend before continuing my travels.

Look i enjoyed the sights, i loved the louvre museum and alot of the architecture, however the people themselves i just could not relate too, i attempted to speak french and meet them at there level and this just seemed to offend them more.

Also it should not cost 8 euros for a sprite/lemonade /soft drink

The list goes on), but I've never been anywhere I wish I hadn't gone. You'll only be there a limited time. In parts of urban western Europe, North America and Oz/NZ, yep. We're proudly secular. But we still have an obvious Christian heritage to maintain.

Even then large parts of the US, almost all of Latin America, large parts of Africa, Korea and Philippines are still strongly Christian. I would live to see your skinny muslims ass tell an average family in Tennessee or Texas that they've abandoned religion. You'll be lucky if you walk away with all your teeth still in your head.

Its about a third (non-EU immigrants) in Brussels, actually. Part of the reason is that Brussels has among the easiest naturalization processes in Europe, and most of its immigrants are coming from the Francophonie, and relatively few want to go to Flanders.

Obviously the EU can't espouse ethnocentric nationalism. Most boat-people are sent back, though the problem is many burn/toss their passports once they enter EU waters. International law says you can repatriate people to their homeland if you cannot prove what that homeland is, and they obscure and lie about it so it takes years, or leaves them in legal limbo.

i visit dubai every summer, ever since I was 15. I'm 19 now and I honestly love dubai. The food is amazing. Travel a 5 minute radius from the inner city and you will see how hard the immigrants work their asses off to eat a shawarma, they live on this.

Dubai is one of the best places in the world to skydive. Even though I haven't been able to save up enough money to do it, I have had friends skydive there over the palm island and they loved it.

The palm island is a beauty. if you are fortunate enough to rent a beach house you will experience paradise. The hotels are some of the best, in fact Atlantis is the only 7 star hotel in the world I believe. The Dubai mall is insane, even if you don't have money there is so much to see including of the worlds largest aquarium. There are many lounges (billiards/pool) that are top notch.

Go to the clubs if you wanna see some of the craziest shit. The clubs there are literally filled with hookers. These are no ordinary girls. You will find average ones and model tier girls. Easy to get a good fuck for upwards of 150 dirhams. Price usually varies by race, (filipinos, chinese, thai are cheap, russians, iranian, arabic are expensive) i've only been able to get in once with a fake ID. Always carry your passport copy with you because foreigners can get away with almost anything (fights, hookers, etc).

What you won't find in Dubai are drugs. Alcohol is only available in bars. IF you do manage to obtain weed by some miraculous way, get caught and you will go to prison for your entire life...a man once got 20 years in prison for having a crumb of weed under his shoe in dubai.

all in all, there is a decent amount to see in dubai. Most of the time it will be shit indoors, but there are still places to visit. Keep in mind dubai is a small city, not a place with a gamut of towns etc. If you plan on visiting the UAE, prepare to be disappointed because you will find absolutely nothing there.

Rest of Cuba was pretty good when it came to the people. Yeah some asked for my shirt or money but overall no one really bothered me much. In Havana the jineteros were just at their maximum. Only a few kids ever asked me for a fucking dime. And that was only cause I took a picture of them playing baseball in the street. I bought one friend lunch cause I knew he couldn't afford to eat out. However, I was starving and I told him, we are stopping here and having lunch I'm starving.

I was there last year and it was my first trip abroad. Everybody thinks they're so special or intelectual it's weird. Everyone was involved in some kind of "art" project or some shit. I mean... the trip was kinda cool, but the people were awful. The highlight of my trip was a chubby girl I somehow managed to fuck back in my hostel so the trip itself wasn't a total disaster
I'm brazilian btw.

Do Europeans/people from developed countries think shit like this is cool?

I grew up in a poor country and it seems so poor, dull and awful. I'm not sure what's the appeal of a dirty table with cheap food instead.

I intend to use the local transport and I have been to places were people can be a pain in the ass (not in india though). As long as it doesn't get physical I think I can handle. I just think it's a country that contains several marvellous things that I need to see before I die. Do you think it's worth the bummer?

Actually I don't know if it's worth. I skipped most of the famous Ethiopian places. People say the flagship - rock churches - are mostly a money-squeezer for foreigners, although beautiful.

Anyway, the nature is amazing there. Blue Nile valley cutting through the plateau, the lakes and tropical forests in the south... I'd love to see Danakil someday, but as much as I love cycling, I don't want to do it in that country again.

When it comes to harassment, it can easily go physical I guess. Scammers there are persistent and I had to bend sometimes just to save myself from trouble. Things happened which I had never experienced before. One typical trick is that someone invites you for coffee, you both drink and have a snack, then the "host" says that you have to pay. These are ridiculously small amounts of money (literally a few bucks) but the feeling how one must be demoralized and desperate to do so is just awful. It happened to me once, but many other people said similar stories.

Of course, there are many friendly people in Ethiopia, but the frequency of begging and scams can make you suspicious enough not to trust anyone.

Flipfag here. We aren't in East Asia, anon. And I don't know why you're looking for "buddhist charm" and such; it's a predominantly Roman Catholic here. If you want old religious sites, there are plenty of old Catholic churches here and other sites built by the Spaniards.

As for culinary, attend a fiesta or something. I don't know where you went to though. There is a chinatown there, so you should have went there if you want East Asian stuff.

But yes, I agree with you, although I have never been to Manila. It's crowded, noisy, dirty, dangerous and ridiculously shitty. It's where a lot of people from the rest of the country go because they think it is easy money there or something. So it's like a melting pot of a lot of (poor) people.

The next time you visit Philippines, I'd suggest to try somewhere else. Try Vigan for colonial era sites (pic related), Cebu for beaches (Bantayan Island or somewhere south like Moalboal), Palawan, Davao.

Went to France on Business. After I did what i had too do I decided to stay a few extra days and do some sight seeing.
Took the train into Paris.
Big mistake.
The city is dirty and stinks.
The people are ignorant, rude and smelly.
I took the plane home after 2 days.
I will never go to Paris again.
It's a shit hole.
The rest of the country is very nice though.

This. I didn't hate Montreal, but the francophones there are shit. I can't think of another place in the world (besides maybe France) where people get ass-devastated when you try your best to speak a bit of the local language. Anywhere else, people recognise that you're trying and appreciate the effort.

Disagree about the US, Latin America and Korea. Never been to the Philippines but dubious.

But large parts of Africa are very deeply and overtly christian. Like they don't do anything without a group prayer first, people evoke christianity in every exchange, absolutely every surface is plastered in crosses and bible quotes and exhortations to faith, and you'll hear enthusiastic church services every night.

I just don't get why they don't suck our cocks from the get go? I mean we are white, and we are there. Are they so fucking stupid to not notice that they should suck our cocks?

that's probably your problem, right there.

I avoided Paris for the longest time (I'm a Germanfag and it's only about 6 hours away from me), 'cause I thought I'd hate it. Very wrong, but I did spend nearly two weeks. I can see how if you spend 2 days rushing around all the main sites, you'd get a ho-hum or negative impression. Nonetheless, anyone saying hurr-durr Paris sucks, it's an instant tip-off that that person is a colossal fucking idiot and did it wrong.
